FADE IN:
EXT. THE CHANNEL - IRON AGE
From a HIGH ANGLE, we are falling on vast ocean. Rough, untamed waters at the known world’s edge.
EXT. CHALK CLIFFS - DAWN
Breaking waves rock against SANDSTONES. Where a fleet of ROMAN WARSHIPS come into view at a distance off the coast.
EXT. BRITANNIA - ESTABLISHING
Under black clouds, MASSIVE FLAGSHIPS curl up the Themes through SURGING STORMS. Within them, muscled OARSMEN row in tightly-packed hulls against perilous tidal streams.
EXT. ISLE OF MONA - NORTH WALES
The last druid stronghold. A cold and foggy mass encircled by dark seas.
EXT. ROMAN WARSHIPS - CONTINUOUS
GALLEY SLAVES fight against HARD WINDS and POURING HAIL, hauling down damaged sails.
Huge waves crash over the ships, SMASHING the galley as dozens of slaves are flushed overboard to drown in the wild sea.
From their vessels, full armored INFANTRY MEN leap overboard from the sides of the ships as their horses are cut loose -- SPLASHING into the icy waters below.
EXT. ISLE OF MONA - CONTINUOUS
During all this, LEGIONNAIRES march onto a wooden PONTOON BRIDGE floating across the MENAI STRAIT.
CALVARY MEN swim their horses ashore, charging behind a gallant STANDARD BEARER.
EXT. SHORELINE - CONTINUOUS
LEGIONNAIRES secure the beachhead, reaching open shores lined with untamed fire.

CONTINUED:
Roman Governor-General SUETONIUS PAULINUS (40), an uncompromising master of war, leads the men. His RED CAPE raps the tempestuous winds behind him, commanding the soldiers onward with FIERCE SHOUTS:
SUETONIUS You took the oath of allegiance to Emperor Nero! Hunt these rebels and extinguish them from this vile island!
Their HOBNAIL SANDALS crush onto the rocky sands. Faces resilient but consumed with dread.
SUETONIUS (CONT’D) There can be no sanctuary! No protection for those who defy Rome!
From behind a barrier of trees, an ARMY of black-robed DRUIDS and semi-naked REBEL WARRIORS brandish torches. Ready to attack.
Severed HUMAN HEADS hang from their horses’ harnesses, like trophies. a DRUID PRIEST raises his staff -- SCREAMING an incantation.
PARALYZED and UNMOVING, the ROMAN INFANTRY stand awed by the spectacle unfolding before their eyes. Suddenly, a HUMAN HEAD launches from above into the sand at SUETONIUS’ feet.
He eyes down, disgusted. Recognizes the visage of a Roman soldier from previous campaigns. SUETONIUS signals his men into action.
SUETONIUS (CONT’D) Do not betray your eagle!
At this moment, the sky begins to rain with whirling torches. The ROMANS pluck up courage and dash forward -- ROARING for VENGEANCE.
CUT TO:
FLASHES OF ACTION
The battle lines are breached. ROMANS besiege the woods, pushing deep into the tall trees, fending off armies of REBEL WARRIORS.
Running roughshod over the resistance. Making swift kills. Mercilessly, cutting down everyone in their path with their swords.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
The ARMIES push on. The ENEMY is driven back into their SACRED GROVES as the ROMANS burn right through the woods, scattering fiery torches.
Moving against blood stained trees and decayed flesh. Stomping over splintered bones of horses. Into earth moistened from spilled human entrails.
The soldiers at the sanctuary’s final horror where ashy corpses of captives hang imprisoned in GIANT WICKER WORKS. HUMAN and ANIMAL BODIES burned alive together, faces marred in flaky ash.
Someone throws up. Now, only the ROMANS are left standing in the sacred groves. Falling silent as the site is cleansed with fire.
Their calm is broken by WAR CRIES -- right when a HUGE FEARSOME DRUID surprise attacks, holding his SPEAR HIGH in the air! Eyes blazed and bloodshot.
Instantly, SUETONIUS whips back around and counter strikes, plunging his long sword through the assailant’s neck. The blow releases a gush of blood, which pours down the Druid’s spinal cord.
CLOSE UP -- SUETONIUS stares cold, wretches his sword free and raise it to the sky in victory.
OVER BLACK.
CATUS (PRE-LAP) Barbarious, feral men. This island is piled up to the gullet with them. But they can be tamed...
EXT. LONDINIUM - 60 AD
OPEN on a thriving seaport and trading center on the THEMES. A Wild West boom town of its day with all the markings of Roman influence. Crowds of ROMANIZED BRITONS watch a palatial parade as a new host of LEGIONS strut up the HIGH STREET.
An extravaganza with grand spectacles of conquest: Arabian camels, peacocks and CHARIOTS drawn by WAR- ELEPHANTS.
CATUS (O.S.) We must inspire them. Awe them with our great power.
EXT. BRITANNIA - DAY
With heightened sensitivity, a cohort of the TWENTIETH LEGION ventures through a paved causeway. Ahead, rotting scalps hang from SKULLS of BRITONS set on iron stakes.
Find, a GRAND CARPENTUM COACH guided by HORSEMEN rolling onto rocky ground from beneath mist shrouded growth.
INT. GRAND CARPENTUM - TRAVELING
Reveal the voice to be procurator CATUS DECIANUS (40), an inflexible man from a distinguished family with little inclination for kindness.
CATUS That is when we will win their hearts and loyalty.
He smiles. Beside him sits MAGNUS FLAVIUS (35), a disciplined and dedicated SINGULARES GUARD. Tall and handsome with a strong chin.
MAGNUS We have a fragile peace with the natives, Catus. Their grit is unlike any I’ve seen.
CATUS chuckles.
CATUS Have you grown soft on the Britons during your post?
MAGNUS I see good progress. The Ecenians have been great partners. Others will follow and once incorporated into the Empire, they will strengthen it.
CATUS rolls his eyes.
CATUS Magnus, don’t allow your idealism to corrupt your judgement. We are not the same. Look around, Rome is more than a blessing to them.
EXT. ECENI TERRITORY - ESTABLISHING
WIDE ON -- Rome’s wealthiest CLIENT-KINGDOM. A nominally independent Celtic people. Lands spreading across miles of green mountains and lush natural borders.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - DAY
An enclosed upland settlement, rich in livestock surrounds a collection of thatch roofed ROUNDHOUSES against a bleak landscape.
EXT. RIVER BED - DAY
a FEMALE BODY sinks under water. The IMAGE MORPHS like a mirage and comes into focus as she floats above us.
Swimming up to the face of the water. Holds her gaze at the surface. Leaves cover her breasts. Fingers touch a swarm of pedals tracing her hair.
Beautiful, porcelain skin. An intense woman, eyes thoughtful but fierce. We watch her disappear below once more.
Know her as BOUDICA.
EXT. RIVER BED - SERIES OF MEMORIES
A YOUNG BOY and GIRL dive off the rocks, hitting the water, feet first into the depths. They disappear. Kicking beneath the surface, swimming underwater with the currents.
EXT. FORREST - PRESENT
Unclothed, BOUDICA emerges from a soggy bank. Her feet sinking into raw earth.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. FORREST - YEARS BEFORE
The CHILDREN take off on foot, running at us in a playful sprint through patches of leafless rhododendrons.
PRASUTAGUS (PRE-LAP) These are uncertain times.
EXT. ECENI VILLAGE - CONTINUOUS
The YOUNG GIRL follows by her friend’s side, returning to the village. She is the SMITH’S DAUGHTER.
EXT. TIMBER HALL - NIGHTFALL
The YOUNG BOY ushers her on to see what he sees. Together, they clandestinely observe a GROUP OF ECENI LEADERS divided in bitterness.
Listening to the words of a YOUNGER PRASUTAGUS, a man we will later know to be king.
PRASUTAGUS Rome has the power to protect our kingdom. We are better off with them than against them.
His BROTHER is an ECENI CHIEF and his most vocal opponent, keenly aware of Roman affairs.
ECENI CHIEF Better off as slaves? My brother, if complacency is to be the consensus, I cannot stand with you. (then) Serving Rome is not our destiny. My son will never be a slave.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - DAYBREAK
The SMITH’S DAUGHTER watches with sadness as she says goodbye in silence to her PLAYMATE, one final time. The NOBLE BOY joins his father, PRASUTAGUS’ BROTHER and a GROUP OF ECENIANS leaving the village behind.
EXT. FORREST - CONTINUOUS
The SMITH’S DAUGHTER escapes into the pine forrest. Full of rage but showing no tears. She keeps running, arms pumping furiously at her side.
Until, the girl comes to a full stop. Eyes drawn to ROMAN CALVARY emerging on the horizon from far away.
MATCH TO:
EXT. FORREST - BACK TO PRESENT
BOUDICA stares beyond a veil of trees at a hillside, where a cavalcade of ROMAN HORSEMEN ride beyond the palisades.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - DAY
BOUDICA pushes through a forming crowd, who halt and part for her. Everyone yields to her at once. Daughter ANYA (15) is among them. Gentle quietude, comely face.
BOUDICA Anya, what maddens your sister?
She listens, deliberate.
ANYA The boy insulted father for befriending Romans.
At center, her youngest ROAN (11) sits on top of an ORPHAN BOY -- boxing his head. Almost a boy herself. Hair matted and filled with tough, dirty knots.
After enduring much abuse, the boy frees himself from under her. But ROAN continues to strike, grabbing his ankle and pouncing back on top with ruthless strikes.
BOUDICA (stern) Roan.
BOUDICA takes hold of the girl by her swinging arms. Before submitting, ROAN spits a mouthful of blood from her broken lip at the boy’s chest.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Is it true?
She studies the boy’s shamed face. Fixing her eyes sternly upon him.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Do you insult our king?
He averts his eyes. ANYA speaks in a low voice.
ANYA His parents were killed in the uprising.
BOUDICA kneels and takes his chin in her hand.
BOUDICA I won’t hear it again. Devious tongues are cut loose. Understood?
He nods.

BOUDICA (CONT’D) Good boy.
She smiles softly at him, an unspoken code.
EXT. ROUND HOUSE - DAY
A breeze blows in the cold air. BOUDICA makes her way across the stone marked ground and finds her husband ahead, an elder PRASUTAGUS, the Eceni Client-King, who smiles proudly at her.
PRASUTAGUS You are quite rare, my wife.
BOUDICA And you are a flatterer.
He kisses her cheek. Charismatic, body covered in a Roman tunic. A silver ring is lodged in his ear.
PRASUTAGUS Come. The Romans have returned with a new procurator. Let us welcome our guests.
She pauses.
BOUDICA Our guests? The so-called protectors who suck us dry for tribute and reward us with subjugation in return?
An expression of annoyance flashes across his face as we follow them inside the Round House.
INT. ROUND HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
At center, fire burns from a sunken pit and billows through the ceiling’s apex. A remarkable array of power statements abound with gold ornaments and fine jewelry on display.
PRASUTAGUS You’ve reaped many rewards from this treaty. The Roman friendship has brought us great trade and peace from our enemies. Look around, we’re the most powerful tribe because of it.
BOUDICA seethes.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
BOUDICA At what cost? They disarm our men so we have no choice but to support their armies.
From his collection, PRASUTAGUS retrieves a wooden box and removes a gold torc necklace from inside.
PRASUTAGUS There’s much fire in you. That’s what I liked best when I chose you as my wife.
She raises her hair, allows him to place the golden torc around her neck. Prasutagus takes in her scent.
PRASUTAGUS (CONT’D) You’ve always been able to sway men in your favor.
He kisses her neck.
PRASUTAGUS (CONT’D) One day Rome will grow tired of us.
BOUDICA Perhaps. When there is nothing left to take.
INT. TIMBER HALL - NIGHT
FLAMING TORCHES light an elegant banquet where TRIBAL ELITE dine alongside ROMAN MAGISTRATES. A colorful blend of tunics and togas. At high sitting chairs, PRASUTAGUS and BOUDICA preside over their subjects, robed in precious silk.
Among them is MAGNUS who advances before Prasutagus, leading CATUS and a group of officials through the hall towards the Eceni leaders.
PRASUTAGUS Magnus, my dear friend.
Prasutagus stands for Magnus, well-acquainted with the ECENI NOBLES. He smiles and bows his head respectfully.
MAGNUS Catus Decianus, procurator of Britannia, may I present Prasutagus of the Great Eceni.
Catus smiles.

CATUS What a pleasure it is.
They clasp each other in a firm embrace.
PRASUTAGUS Welcome. We are honored to have you, Catus.
CATUS And I to be here.
Magnus gazes unwavering at Boudica, taken by her beauty. But she does not engage him.
CATUS (CONT’D) For your loyalty to Rome, we present you with gifts on behalf of Emperor Nero.
PRASUTAGUS Oh, my...
He rubs his hands together and observes ROMAN SLAVES conveying large AMPHORAE VESSELS filled with wine and olive oil into the room.
CATUS Olive oils from the groves of Sicily and assorted continental wines.
Prasutagus eyes them, unwilling to hide his lusty appetite for Roman refinement.
PRASUTAGUS A beautiful arrangement, Catus. My wife and I give our gratitude to Emperor Nero.
Boudica steps forward and extends her hand with poise. Catus takes her hand and kisses it.
CATUS An exquisite beauty she is.
BOUDICA Thank you.
PRASUTAGUS Don’t let her beauty deceive you.
Prasutagus and Catus chuckle.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2)
CATUS Your women show much spirit and I’m told your kingdom has the best oysters in the empire?
PRASUTAGUS It’s the reason we have such virile men.
More laughter. An ECENI carries over a plate of oysters, dusted in spice. Catus’ eyes return to Boudica.
CATUS Such temptation.
Prasutagus stares out upon his feasting guests. A sanguine smile forms at his face.
PRASUTAGUS Let us toast.
He raises a golden cup. Everyone follows.
PRASUTAGUS (CONT’D) To our friendship.
INT. ROYAL RESIDENCE - BED CHAMBER - LATER
Not long afterwards, Prasutagus rolls Boudica onto her side, sliding his arms around her. They lay in silence a moment. Until, finally with confliction in his eyes --
PRASUTAGUS Have I betrayed our people? Is that what you believe?
She remains still in his arms.
BOUDICA Your people trust you. You are their noble king.
PRASUTAGUS It’s a pragmatic choice. This alliance has lasted us since Claudius’ rise and our wealth endures because of it.
BOUDICA We receive many gifts but they take too much.
Boudica slips from his embrace, bare breasted and rises to her feet from the bed.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
PRASUTAGUS What do you suggest we do? Defy Rome?
BOUDICA No. That would be reckless.
Her eyes draw to the fire, defiant. She smiles tightly and drapes a robe over her body.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) We can be in servitude to them for the rest of our lives...
Prasutagus hops out of bed, growing more agitated. He lifts a CERAMIC JUG from a table and tastes the wine. Boudica faces him.
PRASUTAGUS You are a contentious woman.
BOUDICA You requested my candor, your grace. So, do what you will.
Boudica exits from the Round House. After a moment, Prasutagus coughs and covers his mouth. He pulls his hand away and discovers a drop of blood in his palm.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - LATER
In a touch of moonlight, Boudica finds Magnus near the borders populated by the ROMAN TEMPORARY ENCAMPMENT. He sees her approaching in the moonlight.
BOUDICA Hello, Roman.
She draws closer.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Out to police the savage Brittunculi as you call us?
Magnus deflects with a warm smile.
MAGNUS I have grown fond of your acid tongue.
BOUDICA (amused) Have you?
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
His expression reveals yearning. The attraction is mutual yet undisclosed.
MAGNUS But you see me only as an occupier.
BOUDICA It’s what you are. But a shrewd one at that. Your charm has always twisted my husband in Rome’s favor.
They begin walking along the perimeter.
MAGNUS Prasutagus has been an ally to Rome. He sees the potential of our friendship. But you have no faith in our arrangement.
BOUDICA ...Because I mourn for my people. We were once the strongest and most fierce of all the tribes. Now only the most decadent.
A silence lingers between them.
MAGNUS I have nothing but admiration for the Eceni. In fact, Britannia has begun to feel like my home.
BOUDICA You Romans do your best to make it look as much like Rome as you can.
She begins to leave.
MAGNUS I don’t desire Rome’s power.
Boudica pauses, turns back to face him.
BOUDICA And why are you so different?
MAGNUS Because I see beauty all around me here. Yours is without flaw. The gods must show you favor.
He moves closer and raises her chin, gives her a sensual kiss. She is energized by his touch but breaks away.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2)
Magnus realizes his mistake and looks into her eyes. Her face darkens.
BOUDICA What arrogance. Like all Romans you think everything is yours to have. (then) Go home, Roman.
Magnus nods at her request. Her wrath relaxes. She stands firmly in place. With confliction, Boudia watches as he walks off into the night, returning to the ROMAN ENCAMPMENT.
EXT. ECENI TERRITORY - DAYS LATER
The early morning sunlight casts a hue over the hilltops. The ROMANS have long since gone.
INT. ROUND HOUSE - BED CHAMBER
Prasutagus awakens in bed, sweating. His face is drained white, eyes becoming distant.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - CONTINUOUS
At this moment, Boudica reappears at the village’s outskirts. She strides forward on the horizon carrying a wooden bucket from the springs.
INT. ROUND HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
Prasutagus struggles to walk, taking laborious breaths with each step. A sharp pain shoots through his body. He slowly collapses to his knees and doubles over. One of his SERVANTS runs inside to aid him.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - CONTINUOUS
BOUDICA’S POV sees her DAUGHTERS running to her from the village. Eyes fixed with dread. She drops her bucket, dumping the water and takes off in a sprint to meet them.
INT. BED CHAMBER - LATER
Several SERVANTS place Prasutagus in bed. Boudica watches concerned from the doorway as the healers tend to him.
INT. BED CHAMBER - NIGHT FALL
Boudica steps over to the bed where her daughters embrace Prasutagus in his final hour. She remains beside them, dutifully and takes hold of her husband’s hand. Her eyes are heavy with uncertainty.
EXT. RIVER SIDE - DAY
The ECENI mourn their king as the body of Prasutagus is wrapped in cloth and set on fire against a funeral pyre.
Boudica stands, stoic by the flames. Beside her, tears fill her DAUGHTERS’ eyes. They watch the fire light flicker from his corpse. Black ash funnel into the air.
EXT. GROVE OF ANDRASTE - LATER
The day draws to a close. Boudica kneels below a white- oak tree at a quiet stream bank, head down and praying.
BOUDICA Goddess Andraste, invincible one. Unconquerable. Be our protector against our enemies...
She makes a votive offering, depositing a horde of silver coins into the calm waters.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) ...bring me strength so I can lead my people, serve them well and return honor to our families.
As if to stoke her beliefs, a flock of BLACK RAVENS fly out from the trees tops into the pale clouds overhead.
INT. ROUND HOUSE - DAY
In front of a mirror, Boudica’s daughters plait her hair with flowers. She places a pair of gold earrings.
BOUDICA (PRE-LAP) Prasutagus loved his people without question.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - DAY
A powerful orator, Boudica addresses the ECENI NOBLES at a meeting point on the hilltop. Tensions are building in the crowd over the region’s increasing instability.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
BOUDICA We have many grievances with Roman affairs, which must be remedied. Dissent is your right.
Boudica acknowledges a poor ECENI FARMER, who positions himself in front of the spectators.
ECENI FARMER Farming has been strangled by poor harvests. Yet we pay absorbent amounts of grains and crops to the Romans. But there is never enough for ourselves.
The ECENI NOBLES vehemently concur.
ECENI FARMER (CONT’D) Rome gives us many roads and much protection. Yet we’ve never needed to go elsewhere. I am sick and tired of paying for what we do not need.
He gains a round of favorable applause from the villagers. Boudica nods her head.
BOUDICA Know that you are heard. Our relationship with the Romans is to be revised for this arrangement to remain in tact...
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - LATER
Boudica is advised by NENNIUS, an elder and well- connected ECENI CHIEF. The two Eceni leaders walk and talk near a perimeter of STONE RAMPARTS.
BOUDICA Thank you for coming to see me, Nennius.
NENNIUS There’s much to be discussed. The council has produced Prasutagus’ will. We’ll need to seek advising from our Roman allies in the matter.
BOUDICA What are you keeping from me?
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
NENNIUS The will is comprehensive but the terms are not what we anticipated.
BOUDICA I don’t understand.
After a moment --
NENNIUS Your name is absent.
Boudica digests this discomforting news, a stern look crosses her face. She makes a long pause before speaking.
BOUDICA He promised our daughters would rule in name until they are able to lead. Which I accepted. Is there more?
NENNIUS As a show of loyalty to Rome, he awarded Nero half the Eceni Kingdom and named him co-heir.
The stunning revelation draws her fire. Boudica’s heart sinks, voice shaken.
BOUDICA How could he?
NENNIUS Rome can be persuasive.
BOUDICA His final insult. An act of deference from that weak man.
NENNIUS I’m sure his intention was to preserve the Eceni the best way he could and maintain Nero’s favor.
BOUDICA Bastard.
EXT. CATUS’ HEADQUARTERS - DAY
At his desk, Catus reviews scrolls of archived records. His staff includes ROMAN SLAVES acting as CLERKS and SECRETARIES to the esteemed procurator.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
Magnus enters the room and holds a missive from a messenger in his hand. Catus acknowledges him but continues to write.
MAGNUS I have unfortunate news from the Eceni. Seems our friend Prasutagus has passed.
CATUS What a shame.
He taps his fingers on his desk.
CATUS (CONT’D) Has he male heirs?
MAGNUS There are none. His daughters were included in the will as joint heirs along with Nero to confirm his loyalty.
Catus lifts his eyes from his scrolls, curious. A slight smile forms across his face.
CATUS Loyalty?
Magnus nods his head.
MAGNUS Yes.
He finds amusement in Magnus’ words, chuckles.
CATUS Desperation would be a choicer word. Uncertain succession can be quite lucrative to us, Magnus.
MAGNUS I don’t understand.
Magnus draws pause.
MAGNUS (CONT’D) Catus, I see no reason for the Eceni not to be left in peace.
He locks eyes with Catus, watching the wheels turn in his head.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2)
CATUS And I see an opportunity to claim the Eceni kingdom as a sole province for Nero.
The admission immediately alarms Magnus but he carefully plans his next words.
MAGNUS I must respectfully advise against that, sir. Prasutagus’ wife is a strong presence with her people. Any consolidation plans should be carried out delicately and with great diplomatic effort.
Catus keeps tapping on his desk and rises from his chair.
CATUS But you see, there is no debate. A daughter’s inheritance has no merit with the law. Client- kingdoms are to be dissolved into the empire upon a king’s death. The rules could not be any more clear...
INT. ROUND HOUSE - DAYS LATER
Boudica and Magnus sit alone at a table. Her demeanor has softened, revealing an uneasy vulnerability.
BOUDICA Yesterday Catus’ messengers brought correspondence. We are to pay back loans to Nero. Loans which had been presented to us as gifts.
MAGNUS I will help you appeal.
She shakes her head, anger burning inside her.
BOUDICA These disgraceful profiteers. Is war simply a means for them to gain more resources, more slaves, more glory?
MAGNUS With Suetonius keeping the order, Catus was installed to make sure Nero grows richer. (MORE)
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
MAGNUS (CONT'D) In turn, Catus wants riches for himself. (then) I have kept my promise of service to Rome but Catus conducts himself by his own set of rules.
BOUDICA Would be impossible to raise these funds. All their bullion has been melted down or traded. My husband disgraced us. He brought shame to the Eceni.
Magnus takes her hand, looks into her eyes reassuringly.
MAGNUS I will make this right. You have my word.
EXT. FORREST - LATE DAY
Miles east, FOUR RIDERS in short hooded cloaks ride straight ahead through rough, rainy track ways. There is ONE WOMAN among them.
EXT. DEEP FORREST - TWILIGHT
On foot, the HUNTER in the group stalks into the woodlands on foot. Fierce blue eyes, lean musculature. Wears a fox fur armlet and holds a short-bow. There is a GIANT RED DEER in his sight lines. Still, quiet.
EXT. CAMP - NIGHT FALL
The other TWO MEN prepare a fire at home in these rustic woods like sylvan spirits. The WOMAN arranges herbs for the boiling kettle pot. They are neither ROMAN nor ECENI. Distinctively different but unmistakably DRUIDIC in their appearance.
EXT. HILLY TRACKWAY - SAME
A small ROMAN FORAGING party rides on horseback as a cloud of smoke emanates from the woods below. The leader signals the others behind him to quiet their steads.
EXT. DEEP FORREST - CONTINUOUS
The HUNTER continues to track his prey deeper into the forrest. He readies himself with a bow, narrows his eyes on the Elk.
EXT. CAMP - CONTINUOUS
The WOMAN stands up from the fireside, drawn to the SWAYING TREES behind her. With heightened awareness, she walks closer to the edge of camp.
The TWO DRUIDS take notice. She steps forward, back turned to them. Eyes out ahead. Silence.
EXT. DEEP FORREST - CONTINUOUS
The Hunter settles his eyes on the RED DEER. Feels him. Ears now perked, eyes alarmed and about to flee. The Hunter takes aim and releases an arrow into the air.
EXT. CAMP - NIGHT FALL
The WOMAN’S EYES become large. Her body stills. The TWO MEN rise to their feet. She turns around to face them.
An ARROW is lodged in her chest. She looks on at her companions in horror. Right when, the ROMAN FORAGING PARTY descends upon them from the hilltop.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - TWILIGHT
Boudica and Magnus walk the quiet premises alone.
BOUDICA You show us respect. You’ve never treated us as inferiors.
She directs her gaze at him.
MAGNUS Because you are not.
BOUDICA Why are you so different?
Beat.
MAGNUS Because I’m not Roman by birth. My father had sponsors in Rome. (MORE)

MAGNUS (CONT'D) He was born a slave in Gaul, won his freedom and adopted a Roman name.
She absorbs his admission, nods her head.
BOUDICA I was not aware of your origins.
MAGNUS As a boy I was sent to Rome to be educated, the Roman way. But the other boys never let me forget it.
A beat.
BOUDICA So, do you expect me to do the same? Erase my background to become Roman?
MAGNUS No.
BOUDICA I am Eceni. It’s who I am.
MAGNUS We can leave tonight for Londinium and petition Catus, together.
BOUDICA I need to be with my people. There is too much uncertainty.
MAGNUS Then I’ll go myself and represent your interests then return to you. If you allow me.
She hesitates a moment, contemplates her next words.
BOUDICA Stay tonight. You’ll have a safer journey in the morning. I can provide you with additional escorts.
EXT. CAMP - CONTINUOUS
The HUNTER returns to the campsite and steps into the dimming fire light. Eyes shift from side to side, taking in the many horrors.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
He freezes, stunned by the slaughter before his eyes, after a moment, he cries out loud. The woman lies on the ground, bleeding to death.
All three of his companions are dead. Tears flood his eyes. He slowly walks to the woman’s body and drops down to his knees. Covers his mouth. Holds back his anguish. He reaches out and close her eyes. Regains his composure with nothing left but fury left in his stare.
Know him as the ARCHDRUID.
EXT. FORREST - MOMENTS LATER
The ARCHDRUID trail blazes through the oak trees at lightening speed out into the darkness. Heart pounding.
Ahead, he sees: an UNTETHERED HORSE grazing by a ring of knotted trees. He runs at the horse with everything he’s got, making enormous leaps through the swampy forrest floor.
INT. ROUND HOUSE - NIGHT
By the fire, BOUDICA’S DAUGHTERS keep their eyes on Magnus, watchful and curious.
BOUDICA Run along, girls.
Her daughters, slip from the room, leaving them alone. Boudica moves to face him with animal skins in her arms for him to sleep on. Magnus takes them from her hands.
MAGNUS Thank you. Know I did not mean to overstep myself before.
BOUDICA I do.
A beat.
MAGNUS My time here with you has been a treasure but it was not right of me to act.
They find themselves close.
MAGNUS (CONT’D) But sometimes I cannot resist you.

BOUDICA Oh?
Magnus presses his forehead against hers, wanting to hold onto this moment. She stays in his arms and turns her head to face him. His touch invigorates her, comforts her. They kiss tentatively before igniting themselves further.
EXT. FORREST - CONTINUOUS
The ARCHDRUID rides on his horse at a quickening pace, like a thunder bolt. Kicking the stallion, riding faster and faster.
Ahead, he sees signs of another camp emerging in the distance, wagons and infantry crammed together by a fire.
INT. BED CHAMBER - MOMENTS LATER
Boudica and Magnus slip into the room. He continues to kiss her. She pulls off his shirt, exposing his chest. He lifts her leg up, falling back together against the wall.
EXT. ROMAN CAMP SITE - CONTINUOUS
The Archdruid creeps upon the ROMAN NIGHT RAIDERS, their camp is littered with stolen supplies. There are MORE MEN by the FIRE.
In hiding, the Archdruid quickly sinks a series of arrows into their necks and chest, picking them out in sniper fashion.
One ROMAN, remains. He rises. Sword in hand. Spooked. Unable to tell where his attacker is coming from. Until, the Archdruid charges into view with his bow, shooting an arrow into the man’s shoulder.
The ROMAN rips the arrow out.
The Archdruid comes upon him, takes his head by the hair and removes a dagger from his pocket to strike. Staring at him, eye to eye with hate, he plunges the dagger into his neck and screams out into the night.
INT. BED CHAMPER - DISSOLVES
In candle light, Boudica and Magnus make love into the night. They lay side-by-side, arm-in-arm as she receives him.
EXT. ROMAN CAMP SITE - CONTINUOUS
The Archdruid walks away from the fallen men, bloodied. He roars out at the stars, echoing the night. Full of feral rage and hate.
EXT. LONDINIUM - NEXT DAY
Magnus returns on horseback to the edge of this chartered town, alive with Romans. Right when, CATUS appears riding with THREE IMPERIAL AGENTS towards him.
CATUS You went to see her?
He stops his horse at once, studies his face. Magnus remains calm.
MAGNUS Catus, aggression could undo everything we have built with the Eceni.
CATUS The Eceni are under my jurisdiction. Not yours.
MAGNUS What if they object to your terms?
Catus laughs.
CATUS Simple, we will pry the kingdom from their hands. Rome helped Prasutagus get very rich and taxes have gone unpaid. The action is inevitable.
Magnus stays firm.
MAGNUS I ask that you not.
He smiles.
CATUS It is not your place to make such requests, Magnus. You are not an advisor. Not much more than a slave.
Magnus’ civil demeanor vanishes.

CATUS (CONT’D) In fact, I forbid you to return to them.
MAGNUS On what grounds?
CATUS Treason. There have been unprovoked attacks in the area. And his wife, you wish to protect? They say she prays with the Druids.
Magnus snaps.
MAGNUS That is not true.
Catus signals a group of IMPERIAL AGENTS, who start to encircle Magnus.
CATUS It’s prohibited under Roman law. The Druids preach against Nero.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - LATER
Rays of light hit the hillside from a rising sun. Catus and his EMISSARIES reemerge from the woods on horseback.
CATUS (to his men) We are here to collect what is due to Nero. As for the rest...
A grin streaks his face.
CATUS (CONT’D) Take what you wish.
The ECENI VILLAGE stands quiet ahead on the horizon. Dozens of CATUS’ MEN charge out in front.
EXT. ECENI VILLAGE - VARIOUS SHOTS
IMPERIAL AGENTS and CENTURIONS advance uphill. Upon seeing them, the ECENI VILLAGERS become instantly alarmed.
CATUS (calls out) Take full inventory!

CONTINUED:
Soon, PANIC erupts as COLLECTORS begin brazenly attacking and terrorizing the locals.
CATUS (CONT’D) Show them defiance will not be tolerated!
Within seconds, his STAFF begins to plunder Eceni homes and target NOBLE HOUSEHOLDS.
INT. NOBLE HOUSEHOLDS - QUICK CUTS
IMPERIAL AGENTS pilfer everything -- jumping scene-to- scene at a frenetic pace.
- CENTURIONS take screaming women and children hostage. Husbands and fathers are beaten.
- ROMAN SLAVES smash open hoards of coins.
- IMPERIAL AGENTS confiscate caskets of jewelry, ancestral possessions and gold ingots.
INT./EXT. ROYAL HOUSEHOLD - CONTINUOUS
Witnessing the atrocities, Boudica runs outside to safeguard her daughters and finds Anya crying in hysterics.
ANYA Mother, why are they doing this?
She snaps.
BOUDICA Get your sister! On your feet!
EXT. ECENI VILLAGE - HILL SIDE
A vigilant Boudica rushes ahead with her DAUGHTERS in tow through the melee.
BOUDICA Come, girls. Chin up. Shoulders back. Walk proud.
ECENI CHIEFS and NOBLES follow closely behind her. She sees Catus ahead in her sight lines, as if awaiting her.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Catus!

Boudica leaves the girls aside and rushes to face him, exploding with anger.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) How dare you!
A moment passes. Catus stares at her. Finally --
CATUS Is that how you speak to a Roman?
BOUDICA I don’t care who you are!
Catus speaks calmly.
CATUS That’s not a befitting tone for a woman. I could have you marched in chains through the streets of Rome.
BOUDICA Don’t you threaten me. What right do you have to terrorize my people with your godless thugs?!
CATUS Every right. We are reclaiming Nero’s property. As you were told, the monies given to the Eceni were loans and upon the death of your husband those loans expired.
Boudica protests.
BOUDICA What nerve! Our children are hungry. Grains have brought famine. Now you create these lies as an excuse for your men to pillage my people like spoils of war?!
CATUS I need no excuses. Unpaid dues are grounds for confiscation and eviction.
BOUDICA This will not stand. We have a treaty with Nero.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2)
CATUS That treaty died with your husband, dear. Prasutagus knew you would not be loyal to Rome. Your mistake was failing to produce him a male heir. Rome simply does not recognize female foreign nationals for property inheritance.
Boudica speaks in a low, tremble of a voice.
BOUDICA How dare you. We supported you.
She sneers.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) I will take this to the highest authority. You have my word.
Immediately, Catus strikes her and forces Boudica to her knees. There are screams of outrage among the ECENI.
ANYA Mother!
On the ground, Boudica touches her fingers to her face in shock.
CATUS (screams) Rome is the only authority!
Catus kicks her ribs, as if she were a dog. He begins to circle her.
CATUS (CONT’D) You foolish woman. Don’t you understand?! I can have you surrender your men for the legion army. I can make slaves of you if I want to.
Catus opens up his arm.
CATUS (CONT’D) We are the reason you have such lovely things!
Catus reaches down and savagely rips out one of her gold earrings, tears her earlobe and releases a fountain of blood which drips down to the nape of her neck. She screams out in pain.

BOUDICA Bastard!
He bends over, grabs her by the hair and lifts her head up to face the forming crowd.
CATUS You are property. Your people. Your daughters. Everything here belongs to Rome. You were property to your husband and now you are property to me.
Catus kicks into her back and pushes Boudica face first to the ground. NENNIUS steps up, pleads from among the offended ECENI.
NENNIUS No!
Catus fixes his eyes ahead at Nennius.
CATUS NO?! YOU SAY NO?!
His IMPERIAL AGENTS seize upon as many ECENI as they can, restraining them from further unrest.
NENNIUS Please, you can’t!
CATUS OH, YES I CAN!
Helpless, Boudica watches as Catus unsheathes a dagger from under his cloak. Without hesitation, he walks forward and slits Nennius’ throat wide open.
BOUDICA (screaming) Animal!
Nennius falls dead. Terrified screams burst from the crowd as NOBLE MEN struggle to intervene but are promptly beaten down by CENTURIONS.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) (to Catus) You cowardly man...
Boudica returns to her feet, humiliated. Catus eyes each of her daughters.

CATUS Your daughters are so beautiful. Have they bled?
Boudica becomes ballistic.
BOUDICA You stay away from them!
But he does not. Catus walks over to the girls. Their eyes downward and frightened.
CATUS Such innocence.
He runs his hand gently against Anya’s face. Her body tremors, breathing heavily. Roan remains still. Held back, Boudica grows hysterical.
BOUDICA Do not touch her! You do not touch her!
Catus furrows his brow, a look of confusion.
CATUS But they are mine. Mine to do as I please with.
Catus signals his men.
CATUS (CONT’D) Take these pitiful creatures.
ANYA Mummy!
Anya bursts into tears. Roan is silent but frightened. Boudica bucks her body furiously in the Guards’ arms.
BOUDICA You stay away from them!
Several CENTURIONS clutch the girls by their arms. Roan viciously resists but is too small to defend herself. Boudica’s eyes fill with fury.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Don’t you dare!
Her anger unsettles him. Catus looks back at his men.
CATUS Someone restrain her.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (5)
Boudica breaks loose and throws herself at them until she is quickly subdued by multiple men. She struggles mightily with every inch of her body but is rendered powerless.
ANYA No! No!
Anya falls apart in the tight hold of a Centurion. Finally, Boudica pleads. A moment of vulnerability.
BOUDICA Please! Not my daughters... You can have anything but do not take my daughters! Leave them, please. I beg of you...
Catus keeps his eyes trained on the helpless Eceni.
CATUS A precedent must be set. You have acted as an enemy of Rome.
An ECENI FARMER tries to reason, knowing exactly what Catus’ words imply and the harrowing consequences of those intentions.
ECENI FARMER Sir, these girls are the future of the Eceni kingdom.
Catus laughs.
CATUS HA! If they grow to become anything like their mother, it would be a disservice to Rome if I did not act.
She locks her eyes on one of the IMPERIAL AGENTS.
BOUDICA Stop this! I beg of you. I beg...
Equal parts a warning and a plea. He is a ROMAN GAUL. His physiognomy is different than the ROMANS. More Celt-like. Boudica does not take her eyes off him. Almost as if to take in his face, making a mental record.
Still, he is among the men who take off with her cowering DAUGHTERS. Kicking and screaming, dragged by their flailing arms through the dirt paths.
At that, Boudica rams her head back into the restraining IMPERIAL AGENT’S FACE.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (6)
She flies forward towards the girls but is forced on her back. Her fight impresses Catus but not enough for him to show mercy.
CATUS String her up! Teach these people obedience. Let them be present as I humble their queen.
BOUDICA’S ARMS are pinned down to the ground, she throws up her body, as if possessed. The CENTURIONS yank Boudica upward, hanging her at their shoulders. She spits in Catus’ face.
BOUDICA You do not behave like a man! You behave like an animal!
They shove a gag into her mouth. She bites down on it, head rapping in their locked biceps. The ECENI cry out for her.
ECENI FARMER Have courage!
In front of her provincials, they haul Boudica backwards to be thrust against a SKELETAL TREE. She fights. Her arms are tied behind her head, garrotted into place without further movements.
EXT. ECENI VILLAGE - INTERCUT
The CENTURIONS carry her DAUGHTERS over their shoulders onto a narrow road behind STONE RAMPARTS.
INT. HILL SIDE - CONTINUOUS
Immobile, BOUDICA’S ARMS stretch outward, locked into place. The secures twist her hands so tight her knuckle- bones break. They strip her dress from her body, leaving Boudica naked.
Bound tight, Boudica’s bare back faces the crowd. An IMPERIAL AGENT produces a whip, which he hands to Catus. A lethal device braided in metal pieces, jagged bone and Ox leather knots.
CATUS You must know that Rome is your master...
Almost sensual, Catus pulls her hair over to her front. Fully exposing her neck and back.

Boudica looks up at the sky, humiliated. Mercilessly, Catus begins flogging her with his whip. Each STRIKE cuts deeper into her porcelain skin, leaving track marks of the reddest red.
EXT. STONE RAMPARTS - CONTINUOUS
With ruthless force, CENTURIONS disrobe her DAUGHTERS. Their clothes are ripped off. ANYA is pushed down, taken by both legs and flipped on her back. ROAN fights under them. With indifference, the ROMAN GAUL hits her unconscious.
EXT. HILL SIDE - CONTINUOUS
Blood lashes the ground. Boudica strains her body and throttles in agony. Eyes flashed red. Bits of bone and metal woven into Catus’ whip lacerate her back to raw flesh.
EXT. STONE RAMPARTS - SAME
Her DAUGHTERS’ FACES are covered by ROMAN HANDS. Dirty, brutish bodies on top, raping them.
EXT. HILL SIDE - SAME
Boudica’s head drops as her flesh is thrashed to the bone. Catus’ whip disassembles in motion beating her so hard.
EXT. STONE RAMPARTS - SAME
The weed grass is littered with scraps of clothes. Her daughters lay helpless under ROMAN FLESH. Their innocence ripped away without a care.
EXT. HILL SIDE - CONTINUOUS
Beaten more, Boudica’s eyes fix ahead. Resentful. Silent. Fading in and out of consciousness, almost dead.
CATUS Give her more.
Catus pauses as his men replace his whip with another one. It’s even more heavily knotted with sharp sheep bone and lead balls.
EXT. STONE RAMPARTS - CONTINUOUS
Awake. Her daughters stare at one another from under their RAPISTS. Quieted by this unspeakable act, conscious through languorous breaths.
EXT. HILL SIDE - LATER
BOUDICA’S RACKED LIMBS barely hold. Eyes, withdrawn from reality. Body wounded. Frozen in paralysis. Finally, she passes out. As if to reach a half-death.
EXT. STONE RAMPARTS - CONTINUOUS
ANYA and ROAN shut their eyes.
EXT. HILL SIDE - CONTINUOUS
Satisfied, Catus leaves Boudica and marches away. She regains slight consciousness. Feels warmth. Behind her, the ROMAN SOLDIERS urinate on her flayed back.
EXT. STONE RAMPARTS - LATER
The CENTURIONS vanish. Leaving the girls beaten and naked. Faces in the dirt. Blood running down their legs. ANYA is breathing. ROAN remains unconscious.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - SAME
Silence. The ECENI village is ravaged after Catus’ savage reckoning. Smoke rises from burning thatched rooftops.
EXT. STONE RAMPARTS - CONTINUOUS
ANYA throws up. She looks over at her sister, moaning. Tears stain their faces. Neither one can stand.

EXT. HILL SIDE - SAME
Sweating, Boudica hangs there. Wan face, fixed stare. Back bleeding, stretched out motionless in the heat of the sun.
EXT. STONE RAMPARTS - LATER
BOUDICA’S DAUGHTERS slowly collect their clothes off the ground. Unable to speak.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - CONTINUOUS
The girls stagger away from the site with cries. Eyes lurching up at the late day sky. Holding themselves, disoriented and pained.
EXT. HILL SIDE - CONTINUOUS
CLOSE ON BOUDICA. Slowly opens her eyes. Her hair wetted in sweat and blood. Overcome by internal anguish. Sees, her daughters stumble into sight, wobbling like new born fawns. Their eyes meet mother’s ahead.
All of a sudden, BOUDICA’S ARMS go free. Her mouth gag is cut loose. She SCREAMS. Eyes growing into a psychotic state. Soul filled with an explicit need for revenge.
INT. ROUND HOUSE - NIGHT
Barely there, Boudica lays by the floor. On her stomach, covered in damp cloths, sweating through tired breaths. Her one eye is swollen.
Around her are unfamiliar faces. A WOMEN conditions the wounds lacerated across her back. Another, lifts her sprained limbs to sponge her arms. Without warning, BOUDICA’S BODY thrashes. In terror, her eyes search around.
BOUDICA Where are my babies?!
The movement causes her horrendous pain. One of THE STRANGERS appears. We remember him as THE ARCHDRUID.
THE ARCHDRUID They are here.
He lights a wick with a burning candle. To find, Anya and Roan on their backs. Her eyes console them. Meanwhile, the DRUIDS dab warm clothes to clean their bloody wounds.
THE ARCHDRUID (CONT’D) Their spirits are strong. Bodies weak but they will heal.
She looks at him, despondent.

INT. ROUND HOUSE - LATER
Boudica cradles her weary daughters. Kisses their foreheads, reassuring them. No tears shed tonight.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - DAWN
The Archdruid watches Boudica standing alone, looking out at the devastated village. Face bruised, full of hate and grief.
THE ARCHDRUID These acts cannot go unanswered.
The Archdruid joins beside her.
BOUDICA Who are you?
Her eyes remain fixed ahead. He studies the ground. Looks at her, smiles. Then, he speaks quietly.
NIALL My name is Niall.
Niall does not say anything more. She stares at him. Hard to know what he’s thinking.
BOUDICA Which tribe are you?
NIALL I travel between them.
Quiet.
BOUDICA Are you one of the rebel leaders? A seer?
NIALL An advisor to the freedom movement. It has no tribal boundaries. I’ve seen too much of Rome’s affliction on this land.

BOUDICA My husband appeased them for too long. Only to have the Great Eceni reduced to provincials in one day.
A long beat.
NIALL He was a traitor. Appointed king only by the Romans.
BOUDICA He was chosen by the Eceni and I am still the mother of his children.
NIALL If you want a future for them than this land must be quelled of Romanitas.
Boudica’s eyes continue to digest the devastated remains of Bloodgate Hill. Her voice quivers.
BOUDICA They brought shame to us.
Niall locks eyes with her.
NIALL Correct it. Have your vengeance. Be the spark we’ve been waiting for. The Eceni are still the most powerful and as their leader you can unite all of the eastern tribes against Rome.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - DAY
Boudica reaches into a QUIVER OF ARROWS and takes one to line with her BOW, focuses on a target ahead. Pulls back and takes aim. The ARROW releases, sailing into the air to land on target.
NIALL A shot like that will be effective on the battlefield.
Niall observes, nearby.

BOUDICA My people have always been warriors and I intend to kill as many Romans as I can when they return.
NIALL Patience. Be cunning. Keep the dogs’ jaws busy by feeding them. Then strike when the moment is right.
She holds her eyes on him, curiously.
BOUDICA And what is the root of your allegiance to the Eceni?
NIALL Your husband allied with Rome but you and I are one people.
He pauses.
NIALL (CONT’D) Rome inspires nothing but hatred in my heart and the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
They share a soft smile.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - NEXT DAY
IMPERIAL AGENTS collect pounds of grains for taxes from ECENI FARMERS. Several yards away, Boudica’s face darkens but does not react. Among them, the ROMAN GAUL leads his men away but notices Boudica in ear shot.
ROMAN GAUL The king’s wife hopefully knows her place now and her people will be better for it.
They lock eyes. Boudica does not say a word.
ROMAN GAUL (CONT’D) I believe we’re finished here.
He chuckles.
ROMAN GAUL (CONT’D) My retirement could not come at a better time. Enough with these people.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - TRIBAL CENTRE
The ECENI gather around Boudica standing in the middle of her people. More have arrived from distant villages. Everyone is disturbed by her appearance but she speaks firm and confidently:
BOUDICA If the Romans see fit to defile my daughters then they can do the same to any of yours. This we cannot accept.
AESU, an ECENI FARMER interrupts her. He is from farther regions and stands next to his WIFE, not quite polished. Rotten teeth, embittered.
AESU Your husband allowed Nero to grow stronger with his men’s boots on our necks. When our son was taken to Rome as a slave, Prasutagus refused to help us.
Boudica nods her head. Niall observes from the crowd.
BOUDICA I know your pain.
AESU Do you?!
Niall addresses him.
NIALL Is it not evident?
She responds decisively.
BOUDICA Rome deceived us. I accept my responsibility. Now I know that I would rather endure poverty with no masters than slavery with their riches. (then) I say, no longer.
AESU If we resist them, they will take away our homes.
BOUDICA Then we’ll move together. We’ll make new homes. (MORE)

EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - TIME CUTS
Mammoth BONFIRES IGNITE in the rolling fields. Together, the ECENI burn all they have left. Any items that are not necessary for the journey ahead are fed to the flames.
BOUDICA (O.S.) Because we’ll hunt the Romans as hunters do.
EXT. LOW LANDS - DAY
BOUDICA accompanies ECENI NOBLES through a ploughed field. Everything is being consumed by the torch.
BOUDICA The harvest will be lost. Not a single crop should be sowed for Nero. We no longer seek their empty titles of freedom.
EXT. FORREST - FLASHES OF ACTION
With gallantry, YOUNG WARRIORS are bow-hunting. Strong and hardy. They run with the winds, making fierce strides between the OAK TREES. Wild youth reawakening the art of Eceni warfare.
INT. TIMBER HALL - NIGHT
New weaponry is forged from hot, wood burning fires. BOUDICA meets with sturdy-framed ECENI WARRIORS. Both new and old. Equally energized by the resistance.
BOUDICA The Romans disarmed us but their so-called peace through brutality has come to an end.
The Eceni Farmer, AESU listens and grows more concerned by their delicate system’s unraveling.
AESU Roman weaponry is unmatched by any tribe. They’ve absorbed the best weapons from every army they’ve ever fought. (MORE)

AESU (CONT'D) (to Boudica) Please, we have everything to loose. Haven’t you suffered enough?
She narrows her eyes.
BOUDICA Oh, I have. But we have so much to gain, Aesu. They will test us, yes. But Rome cannot match our fury. We will have strength with numbers.
Out from the shadows, Niall steps in front of the men and comes alive before the group.
NIALL The Trinovante will back you.
An ELDER WARRIOR speaks out with fervor.
ELDER WARRIOR The Trinovante are our enemies!
Niall nods.
NIALL End it. Make an alliance with them. Their lands border yours, you are not much different.
Boudica agrees.
BOUDICA Rome has made us one people. A federation among the tribes will weaken Roman power.
He looks each one of them in the eye.
NIALL You have faced similar hardships. The Trinovante were forced from their capital only to have it become a colonia for the same Roman soldiers who burned their homes.
With that, a YOUNG ECENI WARRIOR pipes from the forefront, rousing his comrades.
YOUNG ECENI WARRIOR Then we shall join the Trinovante in taking it back!

He raises a spear skyward. The others are keen to the idea and CHANT BACK. The ELDER WARRIOR maintains his reservation but is clearly inspired by the fire in their hearts.
INT. ROUND HOUSE - LATER
Boudica and Niall pour out the last drops of Roman wines into an empty fire pit.
NIALL Suetonius continues to fight the rebels who fled to the Isle of Mona. Leaving the east unprotected.
BOUDICA Then it’s ours to reclaim. This is the time. We’ll capture the City of Claudius. It’s the Roman’s model town. The more it prospers, the more they spread their Romanitas.
Niall smiles.
NIALL That will be a good start.
She smiles back.
BOUDICA Oh, it will a great one.
EXT. BLOODGATE HILL - DAYS LATER
Magnus trots his horse up to the gates. He is horrified to discover: the VILLAGE has been laid to waste. Before we know it, several YOUNG WARRIORS draw their swords and block his path.
TRIBESMAN Why do you return, Roman?!
Yet, Magnus holds his ground and waits for his mistress, standing tall against their numbers.
MAGNUS I come as a freeman. I do not represent the Roman authority.
TRIBESMAN You are not welcome here.

He is disheartened by the sight of her abused body. Scars worn almost proudly.
MAGNUS Who did this?
BOUDICA You know damn well. I said, go home!
Beyond her fierce eyes, lies a broken heart.
MAGNUS Please, let me help. The magistrates will reprimand Catus.
Boudica holds back tears. Unwilling to show emotion.
MAGNUS (CONT’D) I am so sorry.
BOUDICA Don’t you dare pity me, Roman! Leave us or I shall have them execute you where you stand.
She glares.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) I do not make empty threats.
MAGNUS What Catus has done is illegal. Only murderers are flogged under Roman law.
BOUDICA Nothing will change what my daughters endured. There can be no forgiveness. All we ever were to you were fresh fields of conquest.
MAGNUS You know that’s not true.
Boudica rushes up to him.
BOUDICA Go!

BOUDICA (CONT’D) Tell your masters, we serve Rome no more.
She releases him and turns away. The YOUNG WARRIORS keep hostile stares on him.
YOUNG WARRIOR Leave! If you return we’ll cut your heart out.
With the sunset blazing around her, Magnus watches Boudica disappear back into her village and return to Niall’s side.
INT. ROUND HOUSE - DAY
Niall follows Boudica back inside, disturbed by her familiarity with Magnus.
NIALL Who was he?
BOUDICA A Roman.
Niall nods.
NIALL That much was clear.
BOUDICA He was a facilitator. An interloper. Nothing more. Do not mention him, again.
Niall pauses.
NIALL As you wish.
EXT. PEDDAR’S WAY - DAYBREAK

A SERIES OF DISSOLVES
Together, the ECENI move over natural earthworks, crossing dangerous waterways and deep ditches.
EXT. HILL FORT - DAY
BOUDICA and NIALL climb a hillside to a meeting point where the TRINOVANTE’S WARRIOR CLASS await. An independent confederacy, deeply at odds with the Roman way.
Much like the ECENI, they are tall with powerful builds and massive limbs. Scruffed beards, fair skin. Woad is painted on their muscled torsos and chests.
Yet, an ever fiercer warlike breed (who have not been privy to the good fortune of a Romanitas lifestyle). Each TRIBAL WARRIOR holds a spear. Dressed in skins and pale blue capes. Hair pulled back in braids, shaved at the sides.
No one seems pleased to see BOUDICA or any ECENI for that matter. However, as the ARCHDRUID, Niall is held in high esteem and greeted with warmth by the Trinovante.
NIALL Good to see you, brother.
Acting as the tribes’ negotiator, Niall comes forth to warlord CARATACH (30’s) and wraps his arms around him.
CARATACH Always, Archdruid. Been too long.
Caratach is hot tempered, bull-necked and battle-hardened (evident by heavy facial scarring).
NIALL Caratach, I come with Prasutagus’ wife.
He acknowledges Boudica -- alongside her chieftains, who protectively linger.

CARATACH Sorry for your loss. We know too well the extent of Rome’s treachery.
She nods, grateful.
CARATACH (CONT’D) Please, speak, if you care to. My men and I accept you as the Eceni leader.
Boudica draws closer to enter their packed circle. She addresses Caratach but also everyone else.
BOUDICA In the past we have fought separately but now, my people and I come to you because it’s time we fought as one.
Caratach listens but his demeanor alters.
CARATACH Ay? Fight for you? The wife of Rome’s quisling king?
Boudica maintains her calm, diplomatic reserve.
BOUDICA No. Not for me. For the sovereignty of our homeland.
CARATACH We hear you. But let us remember.
Caratach nods his head.
CARATACH (CONT’D) From the occupation’s beginning, you and your husband joined them willingly. You adopted their customs, so proud of heart. Now, the puppeteers have cut those strings and so their puppets have come to us? To be one people?
With downcast eyes, Boudica focuses on Caratach and his better-skilled TRINOVANTE WARRIORS.
BOUDICA I was a wife. I stood by my husband. He wanted me to remain in the shadows like a Roman woman. (MORE)

BOUDICA (CONT'D) But I never asked to have Rome in our home.
Caratach chuckles.
CARATACH Ah! Yet, you drank their wine and wore their bullion...
There is supportive laughter among his men, entertained by the noted hypocrisy.
CARATACH (CONT’D) The Great Eceni! Once, the most powerful of all of us. But became the most submissive to Rome. (then, snaps) A warrior NEVER submits!
ROARS of approbation reach a fever pitch and only after it settles back down does Boudica continue:
BOUDICA Allow us a new beginning.
She lifts her head high, locking on rows of distrustful faces.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) End our bickering and quarrels. We’ve lived independently of each other for so long but cannot afford to any longer.
Caratach is not convinced.
CARATACH HA! The Trinovante have plenty of experience with how Rome operates, thank you! Their unprecedented arrogance. All of us have had a brother, an uncle and fathers taken. They’ve confiscated our land. Left us homeless. (then) So, don’t you stand there and lecture us, woman.
His cousin, HENGO (16) listens nearby. Blue green eyes, shaggy hair. Strong for his age. Has a faint scar. Brawny but a sensitive soul. Those sympathetic eyes find ANYA, who matches his interest but cannot look at him for long.

BOUDICA Then let us remedy these injustices. I am a free woman, who was beaten like a common criminal. I amm ready to fight for the outraged chastity of my daughters. That I promise all of you.
The crowd cannot help but be impressed with Boudica as a natural orator. Niall gestures to her.
NIALL Show them.
Boudica obliges and turns her back to them, sliding down her woolen cloak -- exposing a host of ghastly wounds.
A shock of silence echoes throughout the crowd. She moves around to meet their eyes.
BOUDICA We should be unwilling to live as a subject race in our own land. Let us show Rome that they are hares and foxes trying to rule over wolves...
Her eyes burn. BOTH TRIBES ignite into raucous cheers, validating her words with vigor.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) With your backing the tables will turn. We’ll wreak hell upon them worse than anything they could imagine.
Their TRIUMPHANT RALLYING grows louder. Boudica smiles. Caratach moves beside Niall. Both enchanted by her.
CARATACH She has a strong personality. That much is certain.
Niall grins and watches the WARRIORS’ zeal come alive.
NIALL That she does...

The camera flies over MASSIVE STONE WALLS guarding the eternal city. Under a hot midday sun, Rome pulses with life in all it’s majesty.
FLASH CUT TO:
EXT. GLADIATORIAL ARENA - DAY
ROMAN SPECTATORS watch raptured at a vicious and unevenly matched gladiatorial show. Where a BEASTLY GLADIATOR slays a quartet of DEFEATED SLAVES on the spot.
He circles the last man standing, a SLAVE in a terrifying dance of death. The helmet-clad GLADIATOR confers to the crowd. His opponents’ eyes pray for mercy. But the eager crowd turns their thumbs down to deny him.
Without hindrance, THE GLADIATOR thrusts his sword into the SLAVE’S BELLY, lifting him off his feet. He stares horrified at the LARGE BLADE imbedded in his chest.
His eyes, flicker out. Only to be raised in the air, skewered like sirloin to win the crowd’s applause. Satisfied, the MASKED GLADIATOR rips his bloody sword from out of the man’s spine and raises his fist to declare victory.
NERO (PRE-LAP) Marvelous.
Just as a spotted LEOPARD is released from holding and stalks into the arena, towards the ever-ready Gladiator but instead pounces upon the Slave’s fresh corpse.
EXT. IMPERIAL BOX - CONTINUOUS
An awning shades the BOY-EMPEROR: NERO, 17, claps his hands, transfixed by the action. An arrogant and vain tyrant. With a taste for flamboyance and extravagance.
NERO What beautiful dominance.
His slender, delicate body is covered by a purple cloak. Hair arranged in tiers of coiffured blonde curls under a crown of golden leaves and sideburns that flip up by his rose tinged cheeks.
NERO (CONT’D) Like a lion to a fawn. Like Rome to the entire world.

He laughs. Nero is joined by a handful of well-groomed and richly appareled YOUNG PATRICIANS, who share a lavish spread of red wine, meats and dates. Slaves fan them from the hot sun.
Among them, is his ambivalent wife and step-sister OCTAVIA. An aristocratic beauty. She sparkles in a gold necklace and rings of bracelets.
OCTAVIA I could think of much better ways to use a slave.
A slave pours her wine.
NERO Oh, but the people love it. And, as their emperor I must provide these pleasures.
Beside him, close companions include CLAUDIA, his mistress. Sensual and gorgeous. A string of pearls rest upon her perfect neckline. To his right, PYTHAGORAS, a handsome and strong built freedman. Clean-shaven, square- jawed. Often quiet.
CLAUDIA But you are what their hearts covet most.
Claudia smiles at Nero, caressing her hand up his shoulder.
NERO (to Claudia) And you believe it?
CLAUDIA Yes. Your lyre is mesmerizing.
She smiles, her hand travels between his legs.
NERO As are you...
Octavia glowers, openly dislikes him.
OCTAVIA (to Nero) Must your pets always slink about?
NERO Octavia. Stop. It’s true. They do love my lyre playing.

NERO’S EYES move side-to-side, as if to contemplate a thought.
NERO (CONT’D) So, we should have a festival. A fantastical celebration, grander than any Rome has had. The first Quinquennial Neronia.
Claudia claps her hands.
CLAUDIA How perfect!
Octavia regards him with polite disdain.
OCTAVIA The council will be wagging their tongues at that as we barely hold onto Britannia.
His laughter grows.
NERO Why should I care about a pack of island-bred dogs?! That island is a receptacle for us to shit on if I please.
EVERYONE else joins in with his laughter.
EXT. IMPERIAL RESIDENCE - LATER
A magnificent spectacle of wretched excess.
EXT. IMPERIAL RESIDENCE - ESPLANADE - DAY
Octavia stalks off through a grand marble domicile. She screams out loud with outrage. Before finding SEXTUS BURRUS (40), a seasoned statesman and advisor to the emperor.
SEXTUS What troubles you, dear?
OCTAVIA Nero is more than willing to have Britannia slip from our hands. It’s in every circle of conversation. He’s enraging. (then) If we loose Britannia it will threaten the stability of Gaul.

SEXTUS The sooner Suetonius rids the island of druidic influence, the better. It is they who are intent on controlling the natives’ domestic affairs. (then) Just like Judea, these men will undermine our authority with their spiritual hold on those people.
OCTAVIA Even so, Nero’s perverse behavior has become an embarrassment to Rome. He committed matricide against Agrippina and now is intent on the same fate for Rome.
Both on edge, Sextus links an arm under hers and they begin walking down the hall side by side.
SEXTUS We must still support him.
Octavia raises an eyebrow.
OCTAVIA Must we?
He smiles.
SEXTUS You and I have his ear. He can be swayed with the right forms of persuasion.
NERO (PRE-LAP) Take her!
INT. IMPERIAL BEDROOM - LATER
A lavish banquet is stacked with cheese, fruits and slices of cooked peacock and dormouse. Nero smears a dollop of honey onto an pomegranate with his finger, lounging from a long couch.
Nero clutches an embroidered pillow. A golden crown of laurel leaves rests upon his head. All around him, rings of incense burn off a bronze brazier.
NERO Take her, I said!

NERO (CONT’D) Yes.
Finally, Nero stands up from the sofa and removes his robe, walking over to the bed. He strikes Pythagoras with an open fist.
NERO (CONT’D) My turn.
Claudia moves to welcome Nero into her body.
CLAUDIA Come now, emperor.
Nero slides up onto the bed as Pythagoras moves towards the edge. We leave them as they echo throughout the chambers.

EXT. EPPING FORREST - SECRET CLEARING - NIGHT
In an old-growth forrest, gangs of ECENI and TRINOVANTE WARRIORS have established temporary camp.
-- BOUDICA’S DAUGHTERS gather brushwood. While, HENGO feeds hunting dogs. His eyes steal a glance in their direction.
-- CARATACH and his men cut their beards short. Some mustaches are left hanging.
-- NIALL discovers BOUDICA training with a sword, while observing her DAUGHTERS. She acknowledges him.
NIALL Excellent swordsmanship.
BOUDICA Our woman have a history of fighting alongside our men. Now should be no different.

NIALL As you wish.
He unsheathes his sword with the a smile and they begin practicing the motions with an unspoken code.
BOUDICA I suppose these men believe I brought this upon myself. Perhaps, it’s true.
Niall’s face darkens.
NIALL Prasutagus was misguided. You want to get ahead these days? You have to do it the Roman way. But you knew no good could come of it. Now, what they need most is a leader.
Boudica considers. Right when, Caratach approaches. He has softened his edge. Boudica and Niall lay down their weapons. Together, they notice their WARRIORS training new recruits.
CARATACH It’s a good thing for us. Our tribes united.
Caratach chuckles.
CARATACH (CONT’D) And, a bad thing for Rome.
She smiles.
BOUDICA We must take the colony back and reach out to pro-rebels within.
He nods.
CARATACH Many Trinovante live there as slaves. The Romans forced our people to build a temple to Claudius with our wealth, on our land, from our labor.
BOUDICA Then we gain their support and with them raze it the ground.
He smiles.

CARATACH Are you mad?

BOUDICA Quite so.

BOUDICA (CONT’D) We won’t stop until every Roman sandal is gone.
Caratach and Niall exchange smiles.
CARATACH I like how this woman thinks. (then, to Boudica) We are with you. My men are hungry for victory.
BOUDICA And they will taste it soon.
CUT TO:
Later. BOUDICA’S DAUGHTERS have a small meal. ANYA becomes aware of HENGO’S observation. Uneasy with his attention.
ROAN frowns back at him. Not as easily charmed. Hengo stands with his food and walks over to them. Gives both girls a friendly but awkward smile.
HENGO I am Hengo.
Anya shifts her eyes away. Roan keeps glaring at him, without blinking.
HENGO (CONT’D) What’s your name?
He makes sure to direct the question at Anya and not the little girl with a viper’s stare.
ANYA Anya.
Hengo smiles.
HENGO May I join you?

Anya says nothing but moves to make room for him.
HENGO (CONT’D) Thank you.

EXT. CATUS’ HEADQUARTERS - COURTYARD
Magnus charges down through rows of cloisters, past a collection of STAFF.
MAGNUS Catus!
Sees, Catus standing ahead, stunned by his brazenness.
CATUS You are to return to Rome. Your service is complete.
MAGNUS I will not leave until you are punished.
CATUS I crippled a threat to Rome. That is my duty.
MAGNUS Your duty?!
His voice bellows.
MAGNUS (CONT’D) You felt it was your duty to destroy our relations with the Eceni and bring ignominy to their king’s daughters?
Catus smiles.
CATUS They should’ve kept their legs closed.
Without warning, Magnus pounces and beats his fist into CATUS’ FACE, shattering his jaw. He pummels him to the ground, hitting him, like a mad man.
MAGNUS Blood will be on your hands Catus!

The PRAETORIAN GUARDS come over top of him. Magnus is knocked down. But returns to his feet. He throws an elbow back and cracks one in the nose.
MAGNUS (CONT’D) Roman blood! Blood of Britons!
Throws another fist at a GUARD. Makes contact. It takes multiple GUARDS to restrain him from bringing more hell upon Catus, who covers his bloodied face.
CATUS Get him out of here...
They haul Magnus off, shouting back.
MAGNUS You have ruptured the entire foundation of this sick enterprise! Shame!
OVER WHITE.
BOUDICA (PRE-LAP) Goddess Andraste of victory, impart us with strength.
EXT. GROVE OF ANDRASTE - NIGHT FALL
Within the dark recesses of spindly woods, Boudica finds a sacred grove where she prays to her goddess. Eyes directed up at the constellations of the heavens.
BOUDICA Allow me to invoke your power and free my people from these impious, unjust men.
EXT. EPPING FORREST - SECRET CLEARING - LATE NIGHT
On a trail, Boudica starts her return back to camp. More women have been brought in to help the men. Young widows and wives. She sees them near the riverbed, running fresh clay through the WARRIORS’ SCALPS.
Boudica stops dead in her tracks. Senses, movement. A noise. Rustling in the leaves. With heightened awareness, her POV ROTATES on high alert.
Identifies TWO HIDDEN FIGURES. A man upon a woman in the throes of passion. Naked flesh concealed in darkness. Boudica moves away. Not before realizing, NIALL with a TRINOVANTE WOMAN. Her LEGS wrapped around his waist.

EXT. CITY OF CLAUDIUS - LATE DAY
MESSENGERS arrive on horseback to the COLONY-TOWN, demarcated by brick and stone to protect from local hostilities.
SENTINELS keep watch. Above, a stone inscription reads COLONIA CLAUDIA VICTRICENSIS (“the City of Claudius’ Victory”).
EXT./INT. CITY OF CLAUDIUS - STREETS - CONTINUOUS
The perimeter is garrisoned by VETERAN SOLDIERS. Inside, civilian residents and retired soldiery live in comfort. Pockets of MERCHANT SHOPS run along an organized street grid leading into a FORUM. Has all the foreign marks of Rome.
INT. ROMAN BATHS - SAME
The ultimate cult of emperor symbol. Elaborate MOSAIC WALLS & IVORY DIPTYCHS portray scenes of classical mythology, encircling the baths.
IMPERIAL AGENT These whisperings of fresh rebel campaigns have unnerved the colony.
IMPERIAL AGENTS and EX-CENTURIONS soak their bodies in warm water.
RETIRED GENERAL Nonsense.
At their beckoning, a SLAVE GIRL provides bowls of Grecian figs and Syrian dates. While, another SERVANT pours wine for a RETIRED GENERAL.
IMPERIAL AGENT Messengers brought word of gathering rebels.
An EX-SOLDIER laughs.

IMPERIAL AGENT It’s concerning nonetheless.
The GENERAL rolls his eyes -- undismayed. The SLAVE GIRL listens close to the bathing men. Despite her adopted Roman attire, it is apparent she was acquired from the local population.
GENERAL They would not dare attack.
IMPERIAL AGENT Catus provides us with barely two hundred soldiers to fight. The legions have left and our defenses have practically all but been removed.
The Slave Girl’s eyes seem hopeful.
GENERAL Suetonius would put them down at once.
EXT. CITY OF CLAUDIUS - OUTSKIRTS - NIGHT
Caratach stays hidden in the forrest and coldly stares at the hated capital.
CARATACH It’s unrecognizable.
From close proximity, Boudica and Niall absorb his viewpoint.
CARATACH (CONT’D) They bled us dry so we could have a constant reminder of their conquest.
Boudica keeps her eyes steady.
BOUDICA Revenge will be served soon enough.

Boudica meets her eyes.
BOUDICA Thank you for taking this risk.
SLAVE GIRL Of course.
She exchanges smiles with them, particularly intrigued by Boudica.
INT. BOARDING BARRACKS - LATER
The SLAVE GIRL has returned to her contemporaries, where there are other supporters from families of low-estate.
SLAVE GIRL Our liberators are coming.
She speaks proudly, in a quiet voice to a ROMAN SERVANT, washing pounds of garments.
SLAVE GIRL (CONT’D) The one who leads them? They say she fights for the outrage of her daughters.
The ROMAN SERVANT does not share her optimism.
ROMAN SERVANT They won’t last against the Romans.
Still, she’s invigorated by the thought.
SLAVE GIRL This time may be different.
EXT. PEDDAR’S WAY - LATE DAY
With a growing force, FEDERATED ALLIES march through rounding track ways. Among them are dozens of FOOT SOLDIERS and HORSEMEN. Civilians and warriors making the journey as one. Wives and children, pulling horse drawn baggage wagons with accumulated war gear.
BOUDICA (PRE-LAP) It no longer matters whether you are Eceni or Trinovante...
EXT. WOODLANDS - VARIOUS SHOTS
Boudica stands with the CONFEDERACY OF WARRIORS united at a SECRET CLEARING. Painted in blue woad. Hair washed in lime, pulled back tight.
BOUDICA We gain nothing from submission.
A collection of IRON SWORDS and SPEARS are wheeled out into the center of a growing crowd.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Never again will our sons and daughters be placed in bondage.
She raises an iron spear upwards to their chants.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) From this day forward, we will be the only masters of our bodies.
EXT. TEMPLE OF CLAUDIUS - NIGHT
Dark skies form overhead. Dozens of civilians clamber up the temple’s stone steps, adorned in offerings. The building is topped by a large dome. Outside, a bronze equestrian statue of CLAUDIUS towers over everything. Where people pray before the statue.
INT. TEMPLE OF CLAUDIUS - CONTINUOUS
Within, the structure ERUPTS in screams as ROMAN WOMEN jostle together to ask the GODS for deliverance. Alongside, SEVERI AUGUSTALES, the imperial cult’s clergy presiding over this chaotic scene.
EXT. WOODLANDS - PITCH BLACK

EXT. CITY OF CLAUDIUS - CONTINUOUS
SHADOWS CAST by the oncoming MASSES OF WARRIORS -- SURGE FORWARD, stretching out towards the ROMAN COLONIA.
The SENTINEL dashes to the TOWER and raises the alarm. BLUE-PAINTED WARRIORS rush the city, like crashing tides. Hurtling past the PALISADES and RAMPARTS.
BOUDICA -- comes up alongside NIALL and CARATACH as HENGO bravely pounds through the crowd behind them.

EXT. CITY OF CLAUDIUS - CONTINUOUS
The siege begins! The city’s GATES are SMASHED OPEN -- BOUDICA and HORDES OF REBELS run at full speed under a stone arch to storm the capital.
Right as, the WARRIORS sweep into the belly of the beast, throwing torches up at the buildings. At the top of her lungs:
BOUDICA Romans, go home!
They overwhelm the ROMAN SOLDIERS with sheer numbers. Methodically setting fire to MERCHANT SHOPS and HOMES, one by one. Anything that burns.
INT. BARRACK BUILDINGS - CONTINUOUS
CIVILIANS take flight. The remaining EX-LEGIONARIES and AUXILIARIES rush into a frenzy of action. Taking up arms and saddling their horses to defend the city.
EXT. STREETS - CONTINUOUS
HORSES and HUNTING DOGS unleash into the streets. Still, a SMALL BODY OF ROMAN TROOPS is no match for the powerful influx of REBELS.

IRON SPEARS

All around them, BOMBARDING SPEARS embed into ROMAN BODIES, like shooting porcupine quills. NIALL lurches in the direction of a fallen ROMAN SOLDIER. He sheathes his sword, striking the man and spilling his innards.
HENGO witnesses the bloodshed at multiple vantages. Unsure of himself. Unsure of bringing death onto others. The reality of war settling in.
ON CARATACH: swinging his sword at the back of a ROMAN’S HEAD. The blow SPLITS the man’s skull in two.
Everywhere they turn: it’s madness -- REBELS cutting down ROMAN SOLDIERS, shattering bone with vicious impact. CARATACH grabs HENGO by his arms, both hands pressed at his elbows.
CARATACH (to Hengo) You fight them. Do you hear me? You fight them and when you have their blood on you, so be it. Let it remind you of what they’ve done to your people.
HENGO nods.
CARATACH (CONT’D) Now, go! Kill yourself a Roman, boy.
Summoning his courage, HENGO presses forward into the abyss and sinks his sword into a ROMAN SOLDIER. Meanwhile, BOUDICA dashes ahead of the REBELS. Her SWORD slaying men, left and right. Remarkably, fighting the ROMAN DEFENDERS to their deaths.
INT. BARRACK BUILDINGS - CONTINUOUS
With rage, BOUDICA sweeps along the narrow halls. Sword in hand. A glow from the FIRES outside tinges the walls and colors the atmosphere red. A few yards away, her sights set upon a FIGURE dodging through the corridors. To REVEAL: a LONE OFFICER.

BOUDICA pursues him down the smoking corridor. He’s hit a dead end. It’s the ROMAN GAUL who accompanied CATUS. Her eyes draw wrath.
BOUDICA immediately recognizes him as one of her daughters’ rapists. He stares back, identifies her. Darkness appears behind her eyes.
BOUDICA The Gods have blessed me tonight.
Without hesitation, BOUDICA lunges at him. The ROMAN GAUL reaches for his sword belt. But she is much faster.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Coward!
BOUDICA stabs his ribs, carving her sword into his chest. A second blow. A final blow. Only to start hacking at him. Even after he is dead.
Finally, BOUDICA takes the sword in her hand and cuts clean through his throat to behead him. She stares at his lifeless eyes, remorseless and screams.
BOUDICA moves away, blood-spattered. Aghast with herself but oddly satisfied. No time to think. Keeps moving as the flames funnel behind her.
Finds, SLAVES and SERVANTS attempting to escape. They include the beautiful SLAVE GIRL. Each one stares at BOUDICA with equal parts admiration and fear. Her hands covered in blood.
SLAVE GIRL (to Boudica) Please! They locked us together and left us to burn.
The SLAVE GIRL and BOUDICA remember each other from the previous night. BOUDICA reaches back with her sword and breaks through the lock, snapping the chains apart.
BOUDICA Go. Now, you are free of Rome.
The rest of them hurry ahead of her to a staircase as the interior begins to rupture and collapse. The SLAVE GIRL lingers before departing, admires BOUDICA.
SLAVE GIRL May I ask your name?
She stares back at BOUDICA wondrously, who’s eyes flare with her reply.

EXT. CITY OF CLAUDIUS - VARIOUS SHOTS
FIRES spread over the tiled rooftops. Igniting the sky. While, BOUDICA and NIALL flee through smoldering embers into the ashy night. Everywhere, REBEL WARRIORS vanquish the streets, sacking the last vestiges of Rome.
Surviving ROMAN SOLDIERS fend them off but most know the end is near. A blitz of blades strike their bodies at every angle as they submit to death.
BURNING COLONNADES tumble onto ROMANS and REBELS intersecting into the FORUM BASILICA. Ahead, BOUDICA draws her eyes to the unfinished TEMPLE OF CLAUDIUS.
CARATACH stares stonily alongside her. Eyes deep with hatred of all it represents.
BOUDICA Burn it to the ground.
Watching ROMANS retreat into a column-lined portico, behind the TEMPLE’S THICK BRASS DOORS.
EXT. TEMPLE OF CLAUDIUS - SAME
REBELS besiege the TEMPLE, bringing fire to it. We hear: HOWLING SCREAMS echo from the ROMANS bottled up inside.
It’s soon set alight by a red layer of fire. BOUDICA does not stop them. Stands there, unbowed. Observing as the DOME begin turning to melted clay.
BOUDICA notes, the STATUE OF CLAUDIUS positioned in front. She charges forth, climbs on top of the mounted stone horse. From there, BOUDICA begins to strike away at it’s bronze head with her sword.
EXT. CITY OF CLAUDIUS - VARIOUS SHOTS
BOUDICA leaves with the BRONZE HEAD OF CLAUDIUS in her hands. Behind her, the TEMPLE COLLAPSES in flames shooting up to light the sky afire.
Her triumphant ARMY escapes from the burning inferno, which only hours before stood firm as Rome’s colonial stronghold.
EXT. EPPING FORREST - LATER
Boudica guides her daughters through a thicket of trees. Wrapped in wolf skins to ease through the chilly night.
EXT. RIVER - CONTINUOUS
Boudica and her daughters kneel by reflective headwaters and make a votive offering. Depositing the BRONZE HEAD OF CLAUDIUS, which they plunge into the river.
EXT. CITY OF CLAUDIUS - DAYS LATER
The smoke has cleared, exposing a heap of ruins. Bugs crawl on fresh corpses. Predatory birds fly above to await their turn.
ROMAN REINFORCEMENTS arrive much too late. To see, the Colony-Town razed to the ground. Nothing has survived. The LEGIONNAIRES accompany a band of IMPERIAL OFFICIALS. All sickened by what’s before them.
INT. IMPERIAL RESIDENCE - NIGHT
OCTAVIA marches down a GREAT BASILICA. We hear, NERO’S screams from the MASTER BEDROOM.
INT. IMPERIAL RESIDENCE - MASTER BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS

She eyes him cold.
OCTAVIA Yes.
NERO Yes, what?
Nero waits.
OCTAVIA Emperor.
He releases her arm.
NERO Better.

An imposing STATUE OF NERO marks in front of the pillared entrance.

NERO’S EYES inflame.
NERO Which warlord was it?
A long beat.
SEXTUS They call her Boudica.
NERO (astonished) She is a woman?!
SEXTUS Yes.
With disgust.
NERO Bowdeekah? My goodness. How subversive to the natural order.
He stifles a laugh.
NERO (CONT’D) She must think she has a penis.

NERO (CONT’D) Who is that?
Sextus follows his stare.
SEXTUS A noble boy. I believe.
NERO A boy?
SEXTUS Yes.
NERO becomes curious, drawing closer to the group. The YOUNG PATRICIANS see him coming and become very respectful but are on edge. Nero ignores each one, shifting his gaze exclusively on the YOUNG MAN, who resembles a catamite.
NERO What is your name?
He can barely speak, without a stutter.
SPORUS ...Sporus. My lord.
NERO You are boy?
SPORUS Yes, my lord.

SPORUS (shaken) ...If his majesty wishes.
Nero smiles.
NERO I do.

EXT. ROMAN ENCAMPMENT - LATER
ROMANS surround their supreme commander. Where, SUETONIUS meets an arriving COURIER on horseback. He studies the missive. Its message is grim.
SUETONIUS The City of Claudius is gone.
After a moment, his expression flares:
SUETONIUS (CONT’D) (bellows) We must avenge our fellow Romans. Bring these men the punishment of the Gods!
The LEGIONS erupt in hundreds of vociferous shouts.
EXT. FORREST - LATE DAY
From out of the bushes, a HUGE WILD BOAR leaps with a SPEAR stuck to his hide. Running to escape. But another spear lurches through the air and strikes him dead.
HENGO runs into view and retrieves his spear from the animal. He looks down at it, proud but remorseful.
EXT. EPPING FORREST - SECRET CLEARING - NIGHT
Beneath the dark glades of elm, HENGO rips the tusk out of his dead boar. Situated before dancing flames is a euphoric celebration of victory.
TRACKING -- CARATACH guiding a YOUNG WOMAN by the hand into a building crowd...
It’s alive with untamed wilderness. Music plays. Everyone embraces, lapping up mead from drinking horns.
In the middle, HORNED MASKED MEN dance to ancient songs with seductive NAKED WOMEN, surrounding them like groupies.
Under the trees, BOUDICA and NIALL watch as they guzzle down ale, devouring meat from the fire-roasted boar. Providing much needed sustenance.
NIALL You have these young princes’ hearts and ears.
Boudica straightens her spear head. Niall drinks from a flagon.
BOUDICA (unsure) Do I?
NIALL They have chosen you.
He offers her a taste of mead.

NIALL (CONT’D) Go to them.
Right, when their chants reach a fever pitch, BOUDICA rises and walks off, crunching her feet across fallen pine cones.
TRIBAL WARRIORS Boudica! Boudica! Boudica!
Everyone settles to hear her speak. She smiles at her warrior princes.
BOUDICA Nero. Foolish Nero. The emperor of Rome wants us in chains. Though he has the title of a man, is he?
The WARRIORS shout: no!
Boudica grows a big smile on her face and begins delivering a rousing Contra-Roman sedition.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) I hear, she sings and plays the lyre in a painted face.
The WARRIORS burst into laughter. BOUDICA raises an eyebrow, among their snickers.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) It’s true! And, as for the Romans? Where to start? They bathe in warm water. Smear themselves in myrrh. Eat fancy food with unmixed wine. (then) And, sleep on soft beds with boys. Boys past their prime!

She bats her eyes at them to their hearty guffaws.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Let her lord over the Romans with her singing. For they deserve to be slaves to such a woman whose tyranny they’ve put up with for so long.
Her voice grows louder.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) But for us?! We cannot stop. The Gods have willed it!May Domitia Nero, reign no longer over me or you, my men!
The REBEL crowd serenades her with cheers. NIALL smiles at her, both taken by her beauty and what she has inspired in them.
EXT. FORREST CLEARING - DAY
Amongst thick woodlands, a cohort from the NINTH LEGION marches into fog-bound tribal areas. Heavily armored with STEEL HELMETS that hang down to their necks.
A robust force, moving with great caution and strung out in marching formation. The CENTURIONS and an AUXILIARY UNIT are lead by COMMANDER CERIALIS. He wears a LION SKIN SIGNIFIER, which covers his head.

As a SPEAR whistles in the air and pierces through a CENTURION’S chain mail, toppling him from his horse.

At every angle, REBELS split up the LEGION’S LINEUP into haphazard pieces, breaking out into hand to hand combat.
For the ROMANS, there is no escape.
Their SHIELDS come up. Stabbing back at the REBELS, who CLASH their WEAPONS -- FLAILS! BATTLE AXES! MACES!
CARATACH clubs down on a CENTURION. His helmet tumbles off. Right when, he catches a striking axe blow to his head from HENGO.

BOUDICA -- HEAD BUTTS a CENTURION and rips her dagger from her knife belt to slam it into his belly.
She swings her sword to the side at another ROMAN on her right and opens his neck.
CARATACH
beats a FOOT SOLDIER’S SKULL with his SPIKED CLUB as ROMAN CALVARY charge him. All of a sudden, a horse rises in the air over CARATACH. The CALVARY MAN slashes a sword down into his leg.
... BOUDICA rips her SWORD up across -- ROLL DODGING from under the rising STALLION, to pierce her blade deep inside the falling RIDER.
With fury, more BRIGANDS OF REBELS fight on.
In the middle of the frenzy, HENGO swings around and lashes his BATTLE AXE at an oncoming CENTURION -- breaks his jawbone, which ricochets into the air.
A continuous flow of enlivened REBELS exterminates the ROMAN LEGION into deadly submission.
Their VICTORIOUS SHOUTS fade to a chilling silence. EVERY REBEL has disappeared, like ghosts in the night. It’s disquieting.
And all around, BODIES lay face down to amount for an incredible loss of Roman life. But an astonishing feat for the locals.
Boudica takes inventory of the carnage. Only COMMANDER CERIALIS survives. Eyes desperate.

COMMANDER CERIALIS Spare me!
Boudica walks over to him and guides her sword along his thorax, as if to mime how she would gut him.
BOUDICA Go. Spread the word. Rome shall perish. Victory is ours and we’ll write it in the spilt blood of Rome’s sons.
TIME CUT:
Moments later. COMMANDER CERIALIS is back on his horse, galloping away with riderless horses.
Alone on these bloody tracks, BOUDICA lifts a ROMAN helmet off the ground and places it atop her head. Blood pours out from it, streaking her hair.
INT. SECRET CLEARING - VARIOUS SHOTS
REBELS have settled into a forested enclosure. Their numbers have increased dramatically.
The CORE GROUP of WARRIORS train new recruits, new skills to pass onto the others. Where, more teams of WARRIORS perfect the Celtic art of war.
-- a TRIBESMEN presses a red-iron against CARATACH’s lacerated leg wound to quell the blood loss. He screams but endures this tremendous pain. After which, a WOMAN applies vinegar-soaked linens.
NIALL (to Caratach) You fought well, brother.
He takes his shoulder. CARATACH manages a smile.
CARATACH It was worth every moment.
Niall leaves them, following Boudica into a secluded area away from camp to confer in private.
NIALL You’ve given them victory. Rome in Britannia is dismantling before their eyes.
BOUDICA The glory was earned.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
NIALL So, lead your men to Londinium next. Make them rich. The town is abundant with Roman wealth.
BOUDICA We’ll be wasting time, we must find Suetonius and destroy the rest of their armies.
NIALL But Catus awaits you in Londinium.
BOUDICA Yes. I am aware...
Boudica becomes cold.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Though, I must ask. Am I simply a propaganda tool for you, Niall?
She waits. He does not answer. Fed up, Boudica brushes past him and takes her arm.
NIALL You are many great things...
Boudica pulls away but he holds firm.
NIALL (CONT’D) Widow. Mother. A fighter and a warrior, through and through.
BOUDICA Why did you come to me?
He hesitates.
NIALL My family was Eceni, once. No longer safe when Rome came. Prasutagus was my father’s brother and by blood my uncle.
Boudica cannot believe what she is hearing, her emotions are coming undone with his words. He hesitates.
NIALL (CONT’D) As a boy, I knew you as the Smith’s daughter and I never forgot you. (then) I came for you. (MORE)

NIALL (CONT’D) You are Boudica to them. Their victory. But you are much more to me.
A long beat. She seethes.
BOUDICA And, you are a scoundrel and liar. A crafty one at that.
NIALL My words are true. Please know that.
Niall moves closer, his lips almost touching hers. He kisses her.
CUT TO:
UNDER A VEIL OF TREES.
In a darkened corner, where branches of leaves provide cover; BOUDICA and NIALL fall upon the ground together.
He rises to his knees, energized -- removes her boots and slips off her skirt. Sensually, explores her body.
Moves down between her as she tightens around him, offering the friendship of her thighs. Her head falls back, eyes stay up at the inky clouds above.
Niall clings to her, unable to let go -- coming free from below to rise over her and unwrap her bound hair. Without pause, he kisses her breasts and scarred shoulders to fully join their bodies.
EXT. ROMAN FORTIFICATION - DAYBREAK
COMMANDER CERIALIS rides towards a gated outpost. He kicks at his horse, pushing it forward to its utmost speed. Alarmed, the FORT LEGIONARY rush to unlock the gates.
INT. ROMAN ENCAMPMENT - CONTINUOUS
Upon reaching them, FORT LEGIONARY rush to his aid. The COMMANDER tumbles off his horse.
COMMANDER CERIALIS The frontier must be secured. Send for all the legions of Gaul.

He stands, shameful. There is confusion among the soldiers.
COMMANDER CERIALIS (CONT’D) My men perished. I defrauded my legion of glory.
The COMMANDER unsheathes his sword from his belt.
COMMANDER CERIALIS (CONT’D) And, I have dishonored Rome.
They watch in horror as he falls his body forward through his sword.
EXT. IMPERIAL RESIDENCE - GARDENS - NIGHT
A half-dozen Christians act as HUMAN TORCHES burning outside NERO’S WINDOW for a source of light.
INT. IMPERIAL RESIDENCE - GRAND ROOM - CONTINUOUS
We hear, soft sounds from a lyre, which plays an enchanting melody. NERO sings for his company, a dozen lounging YOUNG PATRICIANS.
After which, NERO puts down his lyre to meet alongside SEXTUS and OCTAVIA.
NERO (quietly) These interruptions are debilitating. Can’t you see I am with my friends?
OCTAVIA motions to SEXTUS.
OCTAVIA Lord, as Sextus will attest, the situation in Britannia is uncontrollable.
He points his finger.
NERO Has it occurred to you that each day I have people within my own council who plot against me? (then) So, I ask. How did this woman’s armies not attract Roman attention?
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED:
SEXTUS They are well administered. I believe the druidic order brought this Boudica figure to the forefront of their campaigns.
Nero flaps his arm to signify his discomfort.
NERO OH! I should’ve abandoned that island, years ago! Now you tell me all of this instability is from the hands of a virago?
With red faced fury --
NERO (CONT’D) A virago! It’s mortifying!
A long beat.
OCTAVIA She is a provocative woman. They say Boudica commands the whole rebel army and is quite beastly. Fiery red hair. Speaks in hoarsely screams, like a banshee.
Beat.
NERO Does she excite you?
NERO’S EYES grow larger with his query.
OCTAVIA She’s empowered them. If Rome looses control, the rest of the empire will see these campaigns as a sign of our weakness. She must be dealt with.
He stops.
NERO This woman behaving like a man. It disgusts me..
SEXTUS Regardless Nero, she grows more bold each day. But rest assured Suetonius will prevail. There is no one else like him.
Nero stares cold.

NERO Then give him whatever he needs to end Boudica from plaguing my empire. We are Rome, the earth quakes for us!
EXT. ISLE OF MONA - NIGHT
SUETONIUS and his CENTURIONS stand before a ring of TALL WOODEN STAKES. Where THREE DRUIDS’ prostrate bodies are pegged, left on display.
Each, stripped naked with sharp iron spikes nailed at their hands and feet. Alive, bodies bucking.
We hear, wailing screams from onlooking PRISONERS helpless to stop them. With madness, SUETONIUS barks over their frantic cries.
SUETONIUS Men of Rome! We cannot tolerate dissent!
He locks eyes on a FAMILY IN CHAINS. Father, son, mother and daughter.
SUETONIUS (CONT’D) Anyone who dares to make war on Rome will have death handed to them! These druids want to take heads?! We too can take heads!
He points, staring at a YOUNG FATHER who the CENTURIONS wrest control of by his arms -- forcing him to his knees. The CENTURIONS hold his head down.
Right as, SUETONIUS raises an AXE and forces it down to lop off his head.
EXT. ENCAMPMENT - DAY
BOUDICA’S REBELS train -- clanging swords against battle shields. Their forces have grown to greater numbers.
Away from a parcel of tents, BOUDICA and the TRIBAL LEADERS confer.
CARATACH They’ll direct more legions to Londinium without question. But the tribes are learning about us. More will come. Many more.

Among them is AESU, the Eceni Farmer, becoming disconcerted by the unfolding events.
NIALL The Romans will no doubt replenish their men and renew efforts to cut communication between the tribes.
CARATACH Let me propose, I select a few of my men to join with me and go to the tribal lands surrounding Londinium. We’ll be able to strike the town with greater forces.
Boudica contemplates.
BOUDICA Take enough men to provide you safe passage.
Aesu snaps.
AESU And, what if we fail? They will come after all our families.
A long beat.
BOUDICA We will not fail, Aesu. The gods support just vengeance.
He gives her an uneasy glance.
EXT. SECRET CLEARING - LATER
HENGO examines an infected wound across his torso. Before, a HUNTING DOG wiggles under his arm.
ANYA notices and approaches him with a bowl of boiled water and powder in her hand.
ANYA You shouldn’t ignore your wounds.
She places a dampened cloth to his ribs. He smiles, grateful.
ANYA (CONT’D) Please. Don’t watch me.
Anya turns her eyes away.

Hengo takes her face in his hands.
HENGO (CONT’D) No shame. It is their shame.
EXT. EPPING FORREST - DAYBREAK
Caratach and several TRINOVANTE WARRIORS mount their horses. Boudica sees Caratach off. He smiles.
CARATACH You know, it’s as if you have a man’s mind in a woman’s body. Fearless, brave and quite bold.
She smiles.
BOUDICA I’d like to believe those are qualities held by both great men and great women.
He smiles back.
CARATACH Fair enough.
BOUDICA Safe travels, Caratach. We are so close to victory.
CARATACH Be well, my queen.

INT. TENT - NIGHT
BOUDICA awakens near her daughters -- fast asleep and protected by guarding TRIBESMEN.
EXT. SECRET CLEARING - LATER
BOUDICA pursues deeper into the woods. Someone tracks her path. Her attention catches movement. Observes the shadows of a concealed FIGURE.
All of a sudden, a MAN comes on top of her. Takes a leather strap and tightens it around her neck.
Boudica slides back, kicking. They struggle. Her face reddens. Gags. The moonlight reveals her would-be assailant --
AESU It’s gone too far.
Pulling it tighter and tighter to suffocate her. Blood drains from her face.
While strangling her, his eyes become sympathetic. On the verge, ushering her last moments upon her.
AESU (CONT’D) We have families to protect. You’ll never stop Rome. We should not have let you take it this far. I am sorry.
Quickly, NIALL breaks from THE WOODS. Aims his short-bow. AESU catches an arrow, which shoots straight in his eye socket. He falls back with the arrow in his eye as NIALL thrashes his throat.

Freed, BOUDICA gasps for air.
BOUDICA No!
Shocked by her attacker’s identity. Betrayal from within. Other REBEL TRIBESMEN rush to help. She looks at him with remorse.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) (pained) He was a good man. He lived among us for years.
Niall feels into the dead man’s pockets to collect a grip of coins, which he reveals in his palm to everyone.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Roman coinage.
Boudica darkens. Before long, a coalition of REBELS congregate, perplexed by the threat of enemies among them.
NIALL He colluded with Rome. So, we have better move on to Londinium.
EXT. WATLING STREET - VARIOUS SHOTS
Mist rises off mountainsides, like smoke. SUETONIUS deepens into what is now a hostile BOUDICAN FRONTIER.
SUETONIUS Any tribe that wavers in their loyalty to Rome will feel the breath of our swords.
EXT. WATLING STREET - REVERSE
CARATACH leads his companions to cross a ridged road, separated by wild oaks. They are spotted by a rout of ROMANS on horseback -- yards away in the middle of the road.

INT. CHAMBER ROOM - LATER
From a corner, CATUS observes a ROMAN OFFICER holding a hot iron only inches away from CARATACH’S FACE, who is chained to a stone wall.
CATUS I can provide you immunity. I have promised you gold.
CARATACH She’ll come for you.
CATUS Is that so?
CARATACH Oh, yes. To take your heart out and smile upon you as you die. That is when you’ll feel the wrath of Boudica.
A smile forms across Catus’ face.
CATUS It’s a fantasy.
Beat.
CATUS (CONT’D) But you? Your families will have your face to see as a reminder not to be inspired by this woman, this Boudica.
He steps back.
CATUS (CONT’D) An unfortunate circumstance.

BOUDICA and NIALL untangle, laying together. She rests against his chest. He fingers her abundant locks.
NIALL You have inspired fear in the Roman invaders and wet your men’s appetite for more victories.
BOUDICA This land needs freedom.
She stops.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) Not even death is free from Rome. They tax our bodies. Death once freed slaves. Only among Romans do the dead live on for profit.
NIALL We are so close to victory. I knew you would inspire them and you have.
BOUDICA Why did you return to me?
Boudica quiets.
NIALL To explain it would be impossible.
He kisses her.
EXT. LONDONIUM - SERIES OF SHOTS
Fear pervades throughout town. PRAETORIAN GUARDS stand at the entrance where an evacuation commences. Merchants, traders and artisans close shop.
EXT. MANGROVE SWAMP - DAWN
Among a grove of windswept trees, BOUDICA dips her feet under the water. Her daughters brush ground saffron from a mix bowl painting strands of her hair.
ANYA Mother, why do you have us dye your hair red?
She reclines on the riverbank beside them.
BOUDICA To show the Romans what bloodshed will be brought upon them in battle.
BOUDICA smiles at them.
They smile back, keen on the notion. While, applying more saffron to her hair, until it becomes a deep shade of blood red.
EXT. CATUS’ RESIDENCE - GRAND HALL - NIGHT FALL
Lit candles bring life to a close-curtained room. Where, SUETONIUS dines at a table with CATUS and his IMPERIAL AGENTS.
CATUS This has no salt.
He snaps for a SERVANT. The mood is taut.
CATUS (CONT’D) Suetonius, have you had your fill of meat?
SERVANTS bring them great quantities of food, slicing off mounds of red meat from skewers into their plates.
SUETONIUS I did not come to dine with you, Catus.
CATUS Well, my methods were not as effective as I had hoped in gleaning information from the captive.
SUETONIUS chews, not endeared by this man. CATUS has a napkin tied to his neck while he is served, like a bib.

CATUS And, why may I ask, haven’t her rebel armies been stopped?
SUETONIUS Don’t allow the fact she is a woman fool you.
CATUS Must I beg?
CATUS raises his voice.
CATUS (CONT’D) Have your men stamp her out of existence. It’s not in our best interest for Rome’s image to be tarnished by amateurs.
SUETONIUS finishes his last bite.
SUETONIUS I’ll end her reign on my terms. This city is indefensible. I’ve requested more legions. Better the men of this town move on with us than stay to die in vain.
For a moment, CATUS is without words. In objection, he slams his fork down on the table and pushes to his feet.
CATUS You cannot abandon us!
SUETONIUS remains, resolute.
CATUS (CONT’D) Your job is to administer order. Leaving us would be human sacrifice. No worse than druid ritual!
SUETONIUS reaches across the table and grabs him by the neck.
SUETONIUS This was instigated by your recklessness mismanagement. (MORE)

Boudica draws on Catus like a lioness would it’s prey. Their eyes lock for the first time since the day of her flogging.
BOUDICA Catus. Do you remember me?
CATUS It is you?
Boudica takes a slow, deliberate walk in his direction.
CATUS (CONT’D) You are the one they call Boudica?
BOUDICA Oh, yes.
He holds a concealed dagger at his fingers, astounded.
CATUS You silly woman. Do you have any idea what will happen when the legions have you?
Her eyes grow wider.
BOUDICA I may die but I will not surrender. The Gods have given me this moment, my sweetest reward.
With that, they charge at each other. CATUS lunges with his dagger-point hidden from under his cloak. BOUDICA kicks her leg up and SLAMS him against the brick wall.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) No! This is owed to me.
He slips down. She thrusts a dagger of her own in and out through his cheek. He howls.

BOUDICA (CONT’D) A Roman punishment.
EXT. CATUS’ HEADQUARTERS - LATER
BOUDICA’S MEN tie and secure CATUS’ ARMS to a pair of WOODEN CROSS-BEAMS. They are constructed with rope to resemble a CRUCIFIX.
CATUS You will be paraded through Rome!

CATUS (CONT’D) Hours before your execution in the arenas, where lions will scrape the flesh clean off your wretched bones.
Her eyes enlarge.
BOUDICA Oh, who will stop me?
Catus beats his head back, appealing.

CATUS (weak) No...
BOUDICA You made an enemy out of me. That was a mistake. And, you stayed on this island. That was your final mistake. (then) Your centurions have bled our men for days just like this. Now, you ask for mercy? So, I’ll let the flames have you.

BOUDICA No. He is not our adversary.
NIALL hollers in objection.
NIALL This man allowed Catus into your home!
He flies forward and grabs hold of him. They grapple on their feet.
BOUDICA Stop this.
All of sudden, the two men fall back and begin savagely pounding each other. MAGNUS pushes NIALL away, as BOUDICA draws him off.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) (to Niall) Leave us.

BOUDICA But I am. I am Boudica.
Boudica smiles, bittersweet.
BOUDICA (CONT’D) They have treated us like dogs from the onset. How can we expect them to moderate their behavior through the passage of time? We’ll always be in servitude to Rome. I do not seek salvation. (then) I will win or I will perish. Goodbye, Magnus.
Boudica turns away to rejoin her men. He pursues her.
MAGNUS Wait.
She pauses.
MAGNUS (CONT’D) I serve Rome, no more. Let me join you. As a military advisor. I won’t abandon you again.

OCTAVIA She has rallied the tribes as one. Boudica, this name she is given. It’s their word for victory.
NERO laughs.
NERO Bowdeekah. Budadike. However you say it, it’s a foolish title! We will NEVER give them victory. Heavens, they do not care if their leader is man or woman.
SUETONIUS She has struck fear in the hearts of Rome and brought the natives an idol.
OCTAVIA They say she is terrifying to see, like a gorgon in battle.
He mocks her.
NERO “They say she is terrifying to see.” You betray me with this talk. (then) We are Roman! We were appointed by the Gods to rule the world! We are terrified of no one. We do not yield to anyone!
Nero slaps OCTAVIA across her face and roars.

FLAMING TORCHES light a corridor leading to a tunneled chamber. Where, AGRIPPINA THE YOUNGER rests.
NERO Oh, mother.
Her corpse is laid out on a stone base. As an offering, NERO pours a glass of red wine onto the floor.
NERO (CONT’D) My beautiful, sweet mother.
A tear drops from his eye. He steps closer to her dead body presented before him.
NERO (CONT’D) I miss you. I miss you, very much. You did everything for me. Because of you, I am emperor. Forgive me for your death. For ending your beautiful life.
He leans over, kisses her below the neckline.
NERO (CONT’D) If you were here, you would guide me better than any other... I beg you, give me the strength to outshine them, all of the men who came before me, mother. And, the power to quell this uprising...
NERO moves his head against her breast and kisses the dry hair on her head. Runs his hand up her leg. Presses his lips to her lifeless mouth.

BOUDICA (V.O.) They have their order. Their rules. As for us? We’ll give them chaos.
They march forward, moving as one in full armor. Battle crests on their helmets. In steel-clad, plumed helmets and iron-studded boots.
On horseback, SUETONIUS overlooks THE RIDGE with impassive eyes -- where countless BRITONS pour in. The LEGIONS do not extend as far as BOUDICA’S ARMY.
SUETONIUS Better for you to fall fighting bravely than to face the humiliation of defeat from these barbarians.

Behind her, CHANTING WARRIORS beat SWORDS against their shields.
