The Lost Fairy Tale

THE LOST FAIRY TALE

Screenplay by Jared Battaglia

Inspired by the newly discovered fairy tales of Franz Xaver Von Schönwerth

* In 2012, a trove of 500 lost fairy tales collected by historian Franz Xaver von Schönwerth in the mid-1800s were unearthed after collecting dust in a municipal archive for 150 years.

Fairy tale enthusiasts rejoiced as the holy trinity of fairy tales - the Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault, and Hans Christian Andersen - became a quartet, that would further enrich the world of fairy tales.

Although this screenplay is a new story, it's inspired by lost fairy tales waiting to be told.

Some elements and characters from von Schönwerth's kaleidoscope of wonders are woven into this tale written for the screen.

EXT. COASTAL ROAD - ESTABLISHING

A Midsize SUV glides out from a tunnel carved into the canyons onto a stunning stretch of coast-hugging road.

INT. MIDSIZE SUV - TRAVELING

CAROLINE BARNES, 40, steers with determination. The strain of a hardworking mom shows in her eyes. Lately, home’s been a heavier load.

CAROLINE Excited to be staying with Nana for the weekend, Toby?

She grips the wheel, stealing a glance at the rearview- mirror. Her son TOBY, just shy of 12, is in the backseat. His usually upbeat demeanor has faded lately, leaving Caroline to navigate the road and the growing distance between them.

TOBY Guess so.

He gazes out of the car window, holds a caster board on his lap. An elbow casually rests on a Poe Dameron X-wing pilot helmet next to a duffle bag.

CAROLINE What do you mean you guess so? You love Nan’s place and the bookshop.

TOBY You’re trying to get rid of me.

CAROLINE That’s not true. But I want you to have some fun again.

TOBY You don’t have to sell it, Mom. I’m not one of your clients.

Caroline makes a face, slightly amused.

CAROLINE Watch that tone, mister.

EXT. CAMBRIA, CALIFORNIA - DAY

A picturesque seaside village nestled along the rugged coastline, with charm at every turn.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED:

Colorful cottages with flower-filled gardens line the winding streets. On a secluded rocky beach, a colony of elephant seals soak up the warm California sunshine.

EXT. MAIN STREET - DAY

Caroline exits a local market with a bag of fresh produce and a carton of eggs. She pops the trunk open and carefully places the shopping bags inside.

Toby waits for her, absorbed in a digital Marvel comic book on his tablet screen.

INT. MIDSIZE SUV - CONTINUOUS

Caroline gets into the driver’s side. Before starting up the engine, a feeling of apprehension steals over her. She turns around and leans over the seat.

CAROLINE Nana was a good mom when I was little. But sometimes she’d... disappear. If anything happens and you want to come home. Call me.

Toby doesn’t lift his eyes from his tablet screen.

TOBY Okay.

EXT. VICTORIAN HOME - DAY

Caroline steers her car down a long gravel driveway overlooking the ocean.

She parks in front of a cliff-side three-story historic Victorian home shrouded by Monterey pine trees.

The first two floors have been converted into a charming bookshop. A weathered The Storybook Store sign hangs on the creaky front porch. It’s a must-visit stop in all the local travel guidebooks.

Toby gets out of the car, grabs his duffel bag and jumps onto his caster board, gliding down the driveway.

CAROLINE (calls out) Forgot your helmet --

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED:

She knows it’s no use and scoops up the Poe Dameron X- wing pilot helmet from the backseat.

NANA (O.S.) Toby, it’s been a while since you’ve visited your Nana.

NANA, a warm beat-of-her-own-drum type and local book- dealer, appears at the top of the large front porch. Toby runs up the steps and flings his arms around her.

INT. STORYBOOK STORE - DAY

Nana leads them inside. Toby’s eyes dance eagerly across shelves brimming with dusty out-of-print books, time-worn classic tomes, and coveted first editions displayed behind glass cases.

CAROLINE Still, to this day, no one can believe I grew up in a bookstore. But stranger things have happened, I suppose.

Caroline closes the door and heads upstairs with the groceries to a third-floor loft-style apartment.

NANA They have. You can count on that.

Nana gives Toby a knowing smile. A twinkle in her eye.

NANA I’m glad you’re here, Toby. There’s something I’ve been meaning to share with you.

Toby seems intrigued. She motions for him to follow her, guiding him back through aisles of well-curated collections and assorted classics.

NANA I closed the shop so we could spend all weekend together.

They head through a secret passageway made from piles of colorful paperbacks and turn into a hidden room that serves as a cozy reading nook.

INT. STORYBOOK STORE - SECRET ROOM

Toby remembers this cove of the written word fondly. Two high-back tufted chairs stand with a side table between them, sit under a hanging Tiffany-style floor lamp.

NANA Remember how I used to read you fairy tales in here?

Toby nods his head.

TOBY The Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin and his magical lamp. You told me every one.

NANA Maybe not every one...

Toby looks at her curiously. Then thinks better of it.

TOBY Doesn’t really matter. I mean, I’m too old for them now and besides, most fairy tales are for girls.

NANA Superheroes are more your thing?

She regards his Marvel comic. Toby shrugs.

TOBY I guess. And Star Wars.

NANA Well, I once thought I knew every fairy tale there was to know. But that was before I discovered The Lost Fairy Tale.

Toby raises an eyebrow.

TOBY The Lost Fairy Tale?

Nana nods.

NANA That’s right. But it doesn’t seem like something you’d be interested in hearing since you think you’re too old for fairy tales and they’re only for girls.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED:

Toby reconsiders.

TOBY I don’t know. Sounds kind of cool. If you read it to me, I’d listen.

NANA Worth a shot, right?

TOBY Sure.

Music to her ears, Nana climbs up a sliding ladder.

NANA Wise choice.

She retrieves a gilt-edged wooden lock box from the top book shelf and carries it down with her.

TOBY What’s it doing up there?

He looks at the wooden lock box curiously. Nana places it down on the side table.

NANA This manuscript is part of my special collection.

She retrieves a small key hanging from her neck that fits the keyhole and unlocks it. Nana lifts the lid to reveal a leather-bound manuscript inside.

NANA Take a look.

He turns the cover, the first page is titled The Lost Fairy Tale in hand-written calligraphy.

TOBY (reads) The Lost Fairy Tale...

Nana’s eyes light up.

CAROLINE (O.S.) (calls out) I’m gonna take off, guys.

INT. STORYBOOK STORE - FOYER

Toby and Nana say their goodbyes to Caroline.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED:

CAROLINE (to Toby) Have fun with Nana.

She hugs him, whispers in his ear.

CAROLINE Remember what I told you.

On Toby, his reticence fading.

TOBY I’ll be fine.

This makes Caroline smile. She shares a look with Nana.

CAROLINE Bye Mom.

INT. STORYBOOK STORE - SECRET ROOM

Toby and Nana sit side-by-side in the two high-backed tufted chairs. She starts reading from a page in the leather-bound manuscript that begins our story:

NANA Years ago there was a young woman who loved stories...

INT. VOLKSWAGEN WESTFALIA CAMPER - DESERT HIGHWAY

SIERRA, a free-spirited and strong-willed soul in her 20s, cruises down an open desert road. The back of the vibrantly painted camper van is filled with stacks of books in wooden milk crates.

NANA (V.O.) From another time and another place, who wanted to escape from the world she knew...

She spots a wooden billboard on the side of a road: Ahead, BAZAAR OF THE BIZARRE -- a marketplace of wondrous wonders and marvelous marvels.

NANA (V.O.) So, she left home and would soon make an unexpected discovery...

EXT. BAZAAR OF THE BIZARRE - LATE DAY

The Westy pulls into the parking lot of this peculiar outdoor marketplace, which doubles as a campsite.

I./E. BAZAAR OF THE BIZARRE

Sierra steps through the entrance into a vibrant enclosure of old-timey western show wagons situated in a horseshoe shape on the desert grass.

She makes her way past a handful of customers browsing the different show wagons. Colorful jewelry. Hand-woven pillows. Unusual antiques abound.

At center is a BOOKMOBILE which instantly draws her in. The Storyteller’s Wonderful Stories On Wheels is painted on its wood-slatted side.

She peruses a slew of titles neatly arranged on the shelves. A mix of rare books and perennial favorites. She selects Treasure Island from the shelf then Oliver Twist and The Wind In The Willows.

A MAN’S VOICE Looking for something in particular, miss?

From out of the back of the bookmobile steps THE STORYTELLER. He wears a four-button suit and spectacles with a handle-bar mustache and a long flowing white beard. Sierra is taken by surprise.

SIERRA Not really. But I don’t have these three. They’re pretty popular. I’m starting a book bus of my own, so I’ll need all the good titles. And some new stories too.

The Storyteller is intrigued.

THE STORYTELLER Lending or selling?

She thinks about the question.

SIERRA It started as a lending library on wheels but now I don’t plan on staying in one place for long. So I may sell the books instead.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED:

THE STORYTELLER I’ll charge you a dollar for those in your hand. And one more.

She reaches into her purse and hands him four quarters.

SIERRA Seems fair. What’s the other book?

He delicately opens a concealed drawer beneath the shelves on the side of the bookmobile, unveiling a meticulously crafted handmade manuscript with a leather fold over-flap nestled inside.

THE STORYTELLER Here, take a look.

The Storyteller hands it to her. She opens the manuscript, only to find the pages completely blank.

SIERRA (caught off guard) I don’t understand. There’s nothing in this book.

THE STORYTELLER Nothing yet. But I can tell you’re a storyteller.

He retrieves a pen box from the concealed drawer, revealing a crow’s feather quill, glass inkwell, and black ink powder inside.

SIERRA I’ve written short stories but not enough to fill all these pages.

THE STORYTELLER Well, you’re in luck. This quill will help with that.

He removes the feather quill and gives it to her.

SIERRA I don’t write with a quill and ink. Mostly pencils, sometimes pens. But never a typewriter.

THE STORYTELLER This is no ordinary writing instrument, I guarantee that. I suggest you give it a try.

A sparkle in his eyes. Sierra plays along.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED: (2)

SIERRA Is it magical?

THE STORYTELLER As a matter of fact it is an enchanted quill.

SIERRA Let me guess, I write down wishes with it and then they come true?

The Storyteller shakes his head.

THE STORYTELLER No, it’s not a wishing pen. Whoever possesses the enchanted quill has the ability to use the power of words to create worlds.

Sierra can’t help but be charmed by him.

SIERRA Okay, I’m sold.

She puts the “enchanted quill” back into the pen box and places it with the books in her knapsack.

THE STORYTELLER Good luck during your travels.

A knowing smile spreads across his face.

INT. VOLKSWAGEN WESTFALIA CAMPER - PARKING LOT

Perched in the back of the camper van against a mound of pillows, surrounded by piles of books, Sierra sits up with a blanket over her knees and a flashlight on her shoulder, using the quill pen to write in the blank manuscript book.

SIERRA (V.O.) What if I told you there was a world just beyond our own, a realm that’s been the genesis of all fairy tales...

Night turns to day. She continues writing with a few catnaps in between.

10

INT. VOLKSWAGEN WESTFALIA CAMPER - NIGHTFALL

Under shimmering stars, Sierra is on the desert highway once again. An endless stretch of road before her.

But soon, strong winds whip up a massive wall of dust sweeping across the road. Lightning crashes in the sky!

INT. VOLKSWAGEN WESTFALIA CAMPER

Sierra’s eyes widen. Before she can pull off the roadway, a wall of choking dust closes in on her. It clogs the air, blotting out her vision.

The camper goes spinning out of control like Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Her head smacks against the steering wheel, knocking her out. She slowly slips into a deep sleep.

An uncanny light! As a glowing chasm opens up. The camper van crashes towards it and disappears from sight.

EXT. CLEARING IN THE WOODS - DAY

Sierra awakens half-dazed, slumped over in the driver’s seat. Birds sing merrily outside. She slowly collects her small canvas knapsack with her quill and ink from the passenger seat.

Sierra pulls open the door and steps out of the camper van. Raises her eyes at an azure sky, dazzled by the splendor all around her.

With a sense of wonder, Sierra takes in the sight of magnificent undulating hills and mesmeric landscapes. Spots a ROEBUCK drinking from a willow-fringed stream.

SIERRA (quietly) Someone made a wrong turn...

A loud kack-kack-kack! A keen-eyed GREY FALCON with an incredible wingspan swoops down from the wispy clouds in the sky.

MAN’S VOICE I don’t recognize you!

SIERRA (thrown for a loop) Excuse me?

(CONTINUED)

11 CONTINUED:

In astonishment, she watches the majestic falcon transform mid-flight into ELDEN, an enigmatic human figure that reminds Sierra of a storybook character plucked from the most whimsical tales.

Landing on his feet with a spry self-confidence, Elden wears the eclectic attire of a bohemian nomad and a playful smile graces his lips.

ELDEN Where are you from young maiden?

He gazes at her with luminous eyes.

SIERRA (taken aback) California.

ELDEN Never heard of it.

Nerves jarred, Sierra starts to realize --

SIERRA I must be dreaming.

On Elden, it all suddenly makes sense.

ELDEN Oh, you’re a dreamer?

SIERRA Suppose I am.

ELDEN Wouldn’t be the first. Elden Ashfeather at your service.

He makes a slight bow. Sierra is struck.

SIERRA At my service?

ELDEN It’s my duty to welcome dreamers to the Ever After.

Sierra takes in her spellbinding surroundings.

SIERRA I’m not familiar with such a place. But this does all feel familiar... like something out of a fairy tale.

(CONTINUED)

12 CONTINUED: (2)

Elden gives her a smile.

ELDEN Good observation. To you, it may be a far-off magical land. A place you might find in your favorite fairy tales. But to me? It’s home.

SIERRA Well, wonder-tales are really what they are. Since fairy tales don’t always have fairies in them.

ELDEN True. Although, there’s a good amount of fairies and sprites here. They’re always playing little tricks though.

She studies him a moment.

SIERRA And you turn into a bird?

Elden nods proudly.

ELDEN Not just any bird. A falcon. You see, this is an enchanted place. We have all sorts of marvelous, magical creatures here. That’s why Dreamers like you have written about us.

She considers.

SIERRA I may have heard this story before.

ELDEN I assure you; you haven’t. Not this one. You see, Dreamers have come here for many years. Then they tell their tales in your world and put their own spin on it.

-- A quite tall AUTHOR with sunken eyes and a protruding nose sits on rocks by the foaming sea, staring out at the billowy dark-blue water.

He writes in his moleskin notebook beside a sketch of a long-haired mermaid.

-- CHILDREN gather around a WOMAN in a head wrap and tunic dress, who tells them a fanciful story in the oral tradition.

-- THE INKLINGS are tucked together in a cozy corner booth at an Oxford public house sharing the latest stories they’ve written.

EXT. CLEARING IN THE WOODS - AS BEFORE

Sierra absorbs these revelations, cautiously adjusting to her newfound reality.

ELDEN Anyway, you’ll need to be announced to the local ruler.

Elden turns himself back into a grey falcon, flying off towards a cluster of sky-blue tulips.

A LITTLE VOICE Who is this artful stranger?

ELDEN She’s a dreamer.

LITTLE VOICE Let me get a better look then.

In the daylight shadows, a SMALL FIGURE hops on Elden’s back and he returns to see Sierra.

TINY WOMAN She certainly looks like one.

A thumb-sized woman steps off the falcon. Sierra can hardly contain her excitement.

(CONTINUED)

14 CONTINUED:

SIERRA Thumbelina, I take it?

The Tiny Woman stews. Elden resumes his human form, knowing Sierra has committed a faux pas.

ELDEN Careful now...

TINY WOMAN (bristles) I am not Thumbelina.

SIERRA I’m sorry, I just assumed.

THIMBLY I’m a Thumbling, yes. A person no bigger than a thumb. But do you go around saying to every fair maiden you see, “hey Snow White, how do you do?” Or “Cinderella, is that you?” It’s rather presumptuous, don’t you think?

SIERRA I see your point.

ELDEN This is Thimbly Thumbnickel, she’s one of the most revered thumblings in the Ever After.

SIERRA It’s nice to meet you Thimbly and sorry about the mixup.

Thimbly relents.

THIMBLY I won’t hold it against you, you’re here to help us after all.

Sierra raises a skeptical eyebrow.

SIERRA Help you?

Thimbly gives her an odd look.

THIMBLY You were gifted the Enchanted Quill, were you not?

(CONTINUED)

15 CONTINUED: (2)

Sierra removes the enchanted quill from her knapsack.

SIERRA Yes, I was given a quill and inkwell but wasn’t aware of there being any enchantment involved.

Elden and Thimbly are awestruck by it. Not wanting to draw any more attention to the peculiar writing instrument, Sierra carefully places the enchanted quill back in her knapsack.

ELDEN But you wrote with it though?

She nods, reflecting on her memories before the dust storm enveloped her camper van on the desert highway.

SIERRA I began writing a story. I never imagined a whole new world would manifest before my eyes though.

ELDEN Well, now that you’re here, we can begin our journey to restore what was lost in the Ever After.

SIERRA Whatever was lost, what could I do about it?

THIMBLY Come along, it’ll all make sense soon enough.

SIERRA I hope you’re right. I’ll need to find a way back home eventually.

Sierra, wide-eyed and bewildered, stands at the mystical woodland's edge, her gaze darting between Thimbly and Elden. She's hesitant, unsure of her surroundings.

THIMBLY (encouraging) Let’s go, Sierra! The answers you seek lie within the Ever After.

ELDEN This realm is full of wonders. It's not every day you get a chance to explore a world born from dreams and stories.

(CONTINUED)

16 CONTINUED: (3)

SIERRA (whispering to herself) What if this is just a dream? Or some elaborate illusion? I must be crazy to follow them.

BUT THEN, a soft glow emanates from the depths of the forest. Mysterious whispers fill the air, carrying a sense of ancient wisdom and unexplored possibilities.

SIERRA (intrigued) What's that light? And those whispers... It's like the forest is trying to tell us something.

Thimbly and Elden exchange knowing glances, sensing Sierra's connection with the magic of the Ever After.

ELDEN This place has a way of calling to those who need it, especially dreamers like you, Sierra. Your presence here is no accident.

SIERRA (resolute) Okay, I'll go with you. But only to find out what's going on here.

With newfound determination, Sierra steps forward, crossing the threshold into:

EXT. MYSTICAL WOODLANDS - DAY

The moment her foot touches the magical soil, a surge of energy courses through her, making her feel strangely at home here.

THIMBLY (grinning) That's the spirit! The Ever After welcomes you, Sierra.

ELDEN (warmly) Trust in the journey.

Together, the trio ventures deeper into the heart of the Ever After, Sierra's initial uncertainty slowly giving way to a sense of purpose and wonder.

(CONTINUED)

17 CONTINUED:

The forest around them pulses with magic, and they find themselves surrounded by vibrant flora and fauna. Sparkling butterflies flutter by, leaving trails of shimmering dust in the air.

SIERRA (amazed) This place is incredible. It's like walking inside a painting.

ELDEN (smiling) The beauty of the Ever After never fails to astound newcomers. But there's more to this realm than meets the eye.

As they continue their journey, they stumble upon a clearing bathed in golden sunlight.

At the center of the clearing stands a majestic waterfall cascading from a cliff adorned with glowing runes.

SIERRA (in awe) It’s mesmerizing.

They approach the waterfall, feeling a subtle energy emanating from it. As they draw closer, the water shimmers with different colors.

SUDDENLY, a melodious hum fills the air, and a group of FAIRY-LIKE CREATURES materialize, their wings glinting in the sunlight with clothes made of spun moss on.

SPRITE LEADER (serene) Welcome, travelers. We are the Waterbound Sprites, guardians of this sacred place. Elder Briarwood sensed your arrival and guided us here. He requests your presence at his treetop dwelling.

SIERRA (curious) Elder Briarwood?

THIMBLY (on the sly) He’s kind of a big deal around here. When Briarwood reaches out, you know you’re going places.

18 CONTINUED: (2)

Thimbly flashes her eyebrows conspiratorially. The trio follow the swirl of sprites towards a whimsical treehouse clad with ivy, nestled high above the forest floor, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings.

EXT. TREETOP LIFT - DAY

A gate swings open, revealing a wooden platform suspended by ropes. Sierra and her companions carefully step in.

The sprites gently turn a wooden handle, lifting them into the forest canopy.

INT. TREETOP DWELLING - DAY

An eccentric haven where acorn lanterns softly glow, and shelves crafted from woven vines cradle a collection of tiny books made of walnut shells.

Inside, they find an ancient, wise creature named ELDER BRIARWOOD, a kindly-looking humanoid being with bark-like skin and glowing eyes.

ELDER BRIARWOOD Welcome, travelers.

He gives them a warm smile.

THIMBLY Elder Briarwood, it’s lovely to see you.

ELDER BRIARWOOD As it is you, Thimbly. Though I do wish it was under better circumstances.

ELDEN What’s happened?

ELDER BRIARWOOD (gravely) There’s been a disturbance in the balance of our realm. The Turnip Princess is succumbing to the darkness of the Shadow Kingdom, and her fall threatens the Ever After. You, Sierra, are destined to save these lands from what she’s about to unleash.

(CONTINUED)

19 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (confused) But how can I do that? I'm just a dreamer from another world.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (smiling gently) Your arrival here is no accident. You possess a unique connection to the realm of dreams and imagination. You were chosen. Only someone with your ability can undertake a most extraordinary journey like this.

Sierra weighs his words.

SIERRA A fallen princess? I haven’t read a story like that before.

Thimbly gulps.

THIMBLY It’s a first for us too.

SIERRA How did this happen?

ELDER BRIARWOOD The harmony in the Ever After is what’s always bound us together, but since the disappearance of the Everlasting Pearl years ago, we’ve faced uncertain times.

ELDEN We were kind of hoping you might be able to help us find it.

THIMBLY Now we’ve got two things to do. Find the Everlasting Pearl and save the fallen princess.

Sierra bites her lower lip, still unsure how she feels about the sudden quest that’s fallen into her lap.

SIERRA I’m not cut out for this. I was barely able to handle the dinner rush shift as a waitress at the local diner in my town.

(CONTINUED)

20 CONTINUED: (2)

ELDEN I don’t know about any of that. But we all see something in you.

ELDER BRIARWOOD It’s true. We’ve been waiting some time for another dreamer to arrive. You see it’s been quite awhile since your kind has visited us. Now you appear, just as the princess has taken a dark turn.

THIMBLY It’s more than a coincidence, Sierra. Call it fate, destiny or whatever you want. But we need you.

Sierra weighs their words.

SIERRA This Turnip Princess. What happened to her?

EXT. SKY ISLAND - ESTABLISHING

A sprawling landmass floats in the sky, divided into two halves. One is bathed in the soft glow of aureate sunlight, unfolding like a living storybook.

Charming villages, a towering castle, and whimsical landscapes grace this half, creating a scene that seems to spring to life from the pages of a fairy tale.

On the other side, a mysterious region shrouded in fog known as the Shadow Kingdom - a silhouette of jagged peaks and twisted woods, casting an ominous contrast to the enchanting beauty of its counterpart.

EXT. KINGDOM OF AETHERIA - ESTABLISHING

The most lush and verdant half is home to a fantastical kingdom known as Aetheria.

A splendid carriage drawn by four horses makes its way towards a grand castle set on a high ridge of land, surrounded by a forest of laurel trees.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (V.O.) After losing his wife, King Alder was consumed by tears of sorrow.

In the back of the carriage, King Alder sits slouched, his grief-stricken gaze fixed on a distant point beyond the window.

EXT. AETHERIA CASTLE - MAGICAL GARDEN

Steps away from the sunlit castle surrounded by a moat the color of gold.

King Alder finds peace in this idyllic setting, surrounded by splendid colors and bright blossoms. The aroma of flowers envelop him.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (V.O.) All he had left to remember the queen by was her magical garden.

He’s drawn to the alluring red blossoms on a tree branch, as if they’re pulsing with life. Then, notices a big WHITE TURNIP growing in the grass.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (V.O.) But soon his life would be forever changed by the appearance of a mysterious turnip, as if left as a sign from his lost love.

King Alder plucks a red-blossomed branch, gently brushes the turnip. A fleeting sparkle ensues, then fades.

Disheartened by the absence of magic, King Alder falls asleep on the ground.

EXT. MAGICAL GARDEN - NEXT DAY

King Alder awakens to find the turnip transformed into an enormous white bowl.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (O.S.) Then something remarkable happened when a gigantic white bowl appeared in the place of the turnip early the following morning...

Rising up eagerly, he leans over the colossal bowl, his eyes filled with wonder as he gazes upon a cherubic baby girl with tiny feet and hands. Overwhelmed with joy, the King embraces the miraculous sight.

22 CONTINUED:

ELDER BRIARWOOD (V.O.) It was the couple’s child inside. There was no doubt about it. He named her Laurel. Soon news spread like wildfire and she became known as the Turnip Princess across all the lands in the Ever After.

EXT. AETHERIA CASTLE - DAY

Sunlight breaks through the dazzling clouds towards the castle shrouded in mist.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (V.O.) The Kingdom of Aetheria became a beacon of hope for all that feared the chaos magic emanating from the Shadow Kingdom. But Princess Laurel lived in her father’s castle above the clouds yearning to learn more about the magical realm that surrounded her.

An ethereal PRINCESS radiant as the sun, steps onto the marbled balcony of a tower, a golden locket around her neck and draped in an apricot-colored dress that clings to her form.

Her face wears a smile, taking in the awe-inspiring view of the splendid aerial kingdom before her.

A MAN’S VOICE (O.S.) Really is something isn’t it?

Her father KING ALDER steps beside her, resplendent in an intricately embroidered robe, a golden crown atop graying hair. His distinguished face carries a subtle warmth.

PRINCESS LAUREL I wish Mother was here to see it.

She looks over at him.

KING ALDER (bittersweet) As do I.

PRINCESS LAUREL There’s so much wonder in this world. The more I explore it, the more I’m amazed.

King Alder’s expression changes subtly.

(CONTINUED)

23 CONTINUED:

KING ALDER You’ve always had a curious mind, Laurel. You’re very much like your mother in that way. But remember, you must never venture beyond our realm. There are boundaries in place across Sky Island that if breached, could disrupt everything we hold dear in this very kingdom.

PRINCESS LAUREL I know. I just wish things could be different. There’s always going to be danger but maybe things aren’t as scary in the Shadow Kingdom as you say they are?

KING ALDER There’s plenty you still haven’t explored in Aetheria, you have no reason to go beyond our own domain. One day you’ll understand, Princess Laurel. For now, you shouldn’t get too curious about things.

Princess Laurel tries her best not to let it bother her. The King gently kisses her forehead, but a look of uncertainty crosses his face.

EXT. AETHERIA CASTLE - MAGICAL GARDEN

Princess Laurel enters her mother’s enchanted garden, where vibrant flowers bloom in response to her presence. She moves through the garden with a wave of her hand, and the plants respond, blooming and reaching towards her.

PRINCESS LAUREL (singing) Here in my magic garden, full of wonder and grace.

In the heart of the garden, she gazes at a cluster of flowers, and with a gentle command, they burst into a dazzling array of colors.

PRINCESS LAUREL Every petal finds its place, as dreams and wishes bloom. And love forever looms.

She extends her hand towards a barren patch of soil, and sprouts of vibrant flora shoot up, creating a beautiful tapestry of life.

King Alder watches her from his tower window, a mix of awe and concern on his face as he witnesses the extent of his daughter’s magical prowess.

INT.AETHERIA CASTLE - KING’S CHAMBER

King Alder turns to his steward WISP, a weasel white as snow, working behind a small desk.

KING ALDER Wisp, I need you to keep a close eye on Princess Laurel for me.

Wisp glances up from his work, his bright eyes attentive.

WISP Of course, Your Majesty. I will keep you abreast if there’s any cause for concern.

KING ALDER Thank you. I just fear the day that she could... well, you know.

WISP She won’t. I’ll make sure of it.

INT. AETHERIA CASTLE - PRINCESS’S CHAMBERS

Princess Laurel sits at a ruby-studded desk by candlelight, studying botanical specimens, stacks of herbarium books and an illustrated map of Aetheria.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (V.O.) Princess Laurel became entranced by the inherent magic of the wondrous floating sky island she called home, the most enchanted land in all of the Ever After.

EXT. KINGDOM OF AETHERIA - DAY

In a cloak, Princess Laurel follows the meandering path of a crystal-clear stream, leading away from the magnificent castle, towards a dark, gloomy forest.

Wisp, ever watchful, clandestinely skitters across the top of the castle walls in pursuit.

EXT. FORBIDDEN FOREST - DAY

Laurel puts her hood up over her head and stealthily enters the shadow-guarded forest where strange phantasms lurk amidst the darkened trees.

The air is thick with an eerie stillness, broken only by the occasional rustle of unseen creatures.

Wisp perched on a branch, gets a bad feeling, his white fur bristling.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (V.O.) Despite her father’s warning not to venture outside their kingdom’s boundaries, Laurel could not help but be drawn to the secrets of the Ever After.

Princess Laurel navigates through gnarled trees with twisted branches, the ominous shadows casting eerie patterns on the forest floor.

In the distance, a glittering light beckons. Wisp, torn between loyalty and duty, follows behind her, attempting to go undetected, his eyes darting nervously.

EXT. SHADOW KINGDOM - ESTABLISHING

Princess Laurel follows the light into a gloom-shrouded region, compelled to discover its source.

Sparrows circle ominously in the brooding sky above, their caws echoing through the stillness. Faint sounds seem to emanate from the very air itself, like whispers of forgotten nightmares, sending shivers down her spine.

Wisp watches with a stunned expression as she moves deeper and deeper into the unusual landscape marked by twisted formations and haunting shapes looming in the distance, their forms barely discernible through the dense fog.

The very ground beneath her feet undulates in a disconcerting dance, as if the land is alive with some malevolent energy.

Shadows flicker on the periphery of her vision, creating an unsettling play of light and darkness.

EXT. OBSIDIAN GROVE - DAY

Princess Laurel steps into a pocket of the forest where ancient trees surround tall dark stones with mysterious symbols etched across them.

VOICE IN THE SHADOWS Princess Laurel, I’m so glad you’re here.

A swirling, shadowy mass with ember-like eyes appears by a patch of misshaped elder-trees before her.

PRINCESS LAUREL Who are you?

VOICE IN THE SHADOWS Someone who can help you realize your true potential.

To her astonishment, the form of a captivating enchantress named RAVENNA takes shape. Wears a striking earth-toned dress and cape with intricate vine patterns and leaf embroidery. She fixes her sparkling eyes upon Princess Laurel.

RAVENNA You can call me Ravenna. Or the Lady of the Woods as some say.

Princess Laurel can’t help but be intrigued to know more. Wisp, who had been observing from the shadows, gulps nervously.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (V.O.) And so a dangerous mentorship began between the Turnip Princess and the Lady of the Woods.

INT. TREETOP DWELLING - AS BEFORE

Sierra stands with a gobsmacked Elden and Thimbly, mentally unpacking the details of Elder Briarwood’s tale. They can’t believe what they’re hearing and the ramifications it has for the Ever After.

ELDEN This isn’t good. This isn’t good at all.

(CONTINUED)

27 CONTINUED:

THIMBLY A fallen princess in league with the Lady of the Woods? It’s terrible!

ELDER BRIARWOOD Oh, it only gets worse. The King’s steward, Wisp, was unable to get back to the castle in time to relay the dire news to His Majesty. So, now King Alder has no idea what’s about to befall his beloved kingdom.

SIERRA (voice filled with concern) Is Wisp okay?

ELDER BRIARWOOD I’m afraid not...

EXT. FORBIDDEN FOREST - CONTINUOUS

As Wisp, the white weasel, backs away from the Obsidian Grove. He finds himself encircled by three eerie shapes emerging from the shadows.

His heart races as three shaggy SHADOW WOLVES with crimson eyes appear, baring their menacing teeth. Wisp trembles with fear.

WISP (voice quivering) Hey guys, I know this is the Forbidden Forest and all, but maybe I could just leave now without incident?

Their chilling growls make it clear that his plea won’t be heeded.

WISP (sighs) I guess that’s a no!

Opting flight over fight, Wisp darts through the ghoulish woods.

He scrambles up a tree trunk, launching himself from tree to tree, navigating a perilous path like a rollercoaster ride, attempting to outpace and outwit his bloodthirsty pursuers.

28 CONTINUED:

The wolf pack gives relentless chase, their jaws snapping in the chilly air. Wisp soon loses his bearings, distancing himself farther and farther from the Kingdom of Aetheria.

INT. AETHERIA CASTLE - COUNCIL CHAMBER

King Alder gathers with his counselors and advisors in the dimly-lit Council Chamber. Among them is MARIGOLD, the King’s spymaster, a long-eared owl with an air of mysterious grace, known for her prowess in cloak and dagger espionage.

KING ALDER (looking concerned) Has anyone seen Wisp?

A GNOME, one of the King’s scribes seated at the long wooden table, raises his hand to offer an update.

GNOME (fidgeting nervously) He hasn’t been heard from in hours since his assignment to keep an eye on the Princess.

The news troubles King Alder. The room falls into a momentary silence.

MARIGOLD (speaking with a calm yet determined tone) I can search for him.

The King looks at her with gratitude.

KING ALDER Thank you, Marigold.

Marigold hops up from her chair, gracefully landing on the table. With a flap of her wings, she soars out of the window and into the night.

INT. AETHERIA CASTLE - CORRIDOR

As the sun dips below the horizon, Princess Laurel returns to the royal residence, her footsteps echoing in the quiet corridor.

Just before sundown, her father, King Alder, emerges from his chambers.

29 CONTINUED:

Their eyes meet, and the moonlight filtering through the tall windows casts a soft glow on her delicate face as she stands down the hall.

PRINCESS LAUREL (smiling) Good evening, Father.

She curtesies gracefully, but as their eyes linger, something in her demeanor raises an unspoken question. The King studies her for a moment, sensing a subtle change, though unable to pinpoint it.

KING ALDER (with a warm smile) How are you dear?

PRINCESS LAUREL (cheerfully) I’m wonderful. It’s been a long day in the garden.

As she retreats to her chambers, the King watches her, a flicker of suspicion crossing his face. He wonders where she has truly been, a subtle tension lingering in the air.

INT. AETHERIA CASTLE - PRINCESS’S CHAMBERS

Princess Laurel, wrapped in the warmth of her nightgown, retreats to her chamber as darkness envelops the castle. With a contented sigh, she tucks herself under the covers, a satisfied smile gracing her face.

The Chinoise-style wallpaper adorned with intricate plant- like leaves and patterns, takes on an enchanting quality.

In the dim light of the room, it seems to flicker and come alive, as if the delicate designs hold a subtle magic of their own.

The princess drifts into a serene sleep, surrounded by the otherworldly dance of patterns in her dreamlike sanctuary.

EXT. KINGDOM OF AETHERIA - NIGHT

Under the vast night sky, the Kingdom of Aetheria rests upon its floating sky island. A sense of concern etches itself on Marigold’s owl features as she takes flight, her expansive wingspan propelling her gracefully through the air.

30 CONTINUED:

Marigold, the long-eared owl spymaster, sweeps across the kingdom grounds, her keen eyes scanning the surroundings for any signs of Wisp.

EXT. FORBIDDEN WOODS - NIGHT/DAY

Wisp, the white weasel, races through the dense and foreboding Forbidden Woods. The haunting shadows of the night close in around him as he desperately tries to elude the menacing shadow wolves.

His heart pounds with fear, and each rustle of leaves sets his fur on edge.

Despite his nimble maneuvers, Wisp finds himself lost in the labyrinthine depths of the woods. The relentless pursuit has taken its toll, leaving him exhausted and dehydrated.

As the night gives way to the harsh light of day, Wisp’s dire situation becomes even more apparent as the oppressive maze closes in on him.

EXT. OBSIDIAN GROVE - DAYS LATER

Princess Laurel returns to the mystical Obsidian Grove, the ancient stones standing as silent witnesses to the secrets of the Ever After.

Under the guidance of Ravenna, the notorious Lady of the Woods, the princess embarks on a journey of discovery.

PRINCESS LAUREL (determined) I want to know everything. I feel like my father keeps so much from me. But I can’t figure out why. He treats me like a dormouse in a gilded cage.

RAVENNA (smiles knowingly) You don’t have to wonder any more, Princess Laurel. You see, some magic in the Ever After is beyond our ability to explain, but we don’t have to shy away from it. We can embrace it.

Ravenna extends her arm, a radiant glow emanating from her fingertips. Emerald energy particles dance in the air and converge on the tall dark stones.

(CONTINUED)

31 CONTINUED:

Within the circle, a HUMAN-LIKE SHADOW SHAPE materializes, hovering above the ground.

PRINCESS LAUREL (wide-eyed) What is it?

Fascinated, Princess Laurel is drawn to this unusual phenomenon.

RAVENNA (a hint of reverence) A powerful ancient elemental spirit being, the Everlasting Pearl was created to keep at bay. Its power is virtually indestructible.

The Shimmering Shape extends its hand to the Princess.

RAVENNA (encouraging) Go on. It knows that you are capable of so much more.

Mesmerized, Princess Laurel steps forward and reaches out to touch the astonishing form. Chaotic energy courses through her, leaving her both exhilarated and apprehensive. Ravenna smiles, satisfied.

PRINCESS LAUREL (voice quivering) What’s happening to me?

RAVENNA (assuring) It’ll all become clear soon. Don’t look away. Even if it frightens you.

The Princess gazes down at her glowing hands.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (V.O.) Then something changed in the Princess.

A gleam of light surrounds her as a transformation begins. Her face reflects terror, and she releases a loud piercing cry that reverberates through the Obsidian Grove.

32

INT. TREETOP DWELLING - AS BEFORE

Sierra absorbs the revelations, she faces Elder Briarwood and her new companions.

SIERRA (decisive) I want to help. She needs us. Whatever Ravenna did to her, it doesn’t sound good. There’s still time though; we could save her.

ELDEN I’ll go with you.

THIMBLY So will I.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (approving) Wise choice.

ELDEN (determined) We won't let you down, Elder Briarwood.

THIMBLY (resolute) I've dealt with plenty of challenges in my time, and I'm not afraid of a fallen princess.

ELDER BRIARWOOD (nods) Good. The fate of the Ever After rests in your hands. Retrieving the Everlasting Pearl is thought to be the only hope we have left. It’s said to be hidden deep within Glass Mountain. If you travel to the Kingdom of Aetheria, King Alder can help you.

SIERRA Then let’s do it.

Sierra, Elden, and Thimbly exchange determined glances, ready to face the challenges ahead.

ELDER BRIARWOOD But be warned, Glass Mountain is treacherous, and a most formidable adversary guards it.

(CONTINUED)

33 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (confident) We won't let you down, Elder Briarwood.

ELDEN The Ever After can count on us.

THIMBLY Time's wasting, we’ve got a princess to save.

The trio sets out from the tree dwelling, their resolve unwavering, and their focus set on the quest ahead.

EXT. EDGE OF THE MYSTICAL WOODLANDS - DAY

At the fringes of the enchanted woodlands, a mystical gateway unveils itself. Through the dappled sunlight, the expansive landscape reveals the floating island kingdom of Aetheria in the distance.

Magnificent spires pierce the sky, casting a silhouette against the horizon.

EXT. SKY ISLAND - ESTABLISHING

A glistening curtain of magic separates the enchanting woodlands from the otherworldly island suspended high in the sky across a cloud realm.

EXT. EDGE OF THE MYSTICAL WOODLANDS

An empty Skylark Gondola awaits Sierra and her companions at the brink where the land mass ends and a sea of clouds begins.

The charming mid-size floating vessel is crafted from woven materials and delicate filigree detailing in a coppery hue.

THIMBLY (grinning) This will take us through the Cloud Realm to Sky Island, home to the Kingdom of Aetheria.

Sierra steps inside with Elden, who gently places Thimbly in a pilot’s basket at the front of the floating vehicle.

(CONTINUED)

34 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (smiling) I never thought I’d see a place like this.

THIMBLY (chuckling) Trust me, as they say in your world, “you ain’t seen nothing yet.”

I./E. SKYLARK GONDOLA - IN FLIGHT

The trio takes to the skies. The miniature steering wheel, levers and buttons in the pilot’s basket respond to Thimbly’s touch.

They float through the air with grace, Thimbly navigating with the aid of navigation crystals below in the undercarriage.

SIERRA So, Elden could you always turn into a falcon?

She gazes over at him.

ELDEN Not always.

SIERRA When did it start?

ELDEN (reflects) When I was younger and arrogant, I offended an older woman who turned out to be a witch.

SIERRA Oh, I’m sorry.

ELDEN Don’t be. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. Before my enchantment, I was just another Cinderfella waiting around, thinking I’d marry a princess. Now look at me. I can change into a falcon and fly anywhere I want at any time. How cool is that?

Sierra takes note.

(CONTINUED)

35 CONTINUED:

SIERRA Ah, I see. This world is so stunning. But I still can’t figure out why I’m the one that was sent here.

She takes in the worldscape filled with wonder.

THIMBLY (chirping in) Whoever gave you the Enchanted Quill saw something in you. They had to have.

SIERRA I don’t know about that. At first, I thought it was some sort of dream quest. But all of this is beyond imagination.

ELDEN You’re here now, Sierra. That’s what matters.

THIMBLY So, for now, just enjoy the show.

SIERRA All right then.

Thimbly begins singing a soulful ballad with raw emotion in her powerful voice that cuts through the air.

THIMBLY Put your worries aside. This is no time to hide. ‘Cause here you are, in a place where adventure calls and dreams take flight. No matter day or night. This fairy tale world, made for the bold, with so many stories still untold. Surprises abound at every turn. From floating lands to shadowy realms, the Ever After astounds in every way.

EXT. CLOUD REALM - CONTINUOUS

A sudden clap of thunder echoes through the air! Elden squints, sensing something headed their way.

ELDEN Look out!

(CONTINUED)

36 CONTINUED:

Thimbly notices strange hulking forms darting in and out of view from the cloudscape around them.

THIMBLY (grimacing) Hang on tight.

She grips the wheel, struggling to maintain control of the Skylark Gondola through a blitz of turbulent winds.

SIERRA (fearful) What are they?

Elden studies the movements in the clouds, like sharks circling in water.

ELDEN The Nimbus, storm beasts. They blend with the shadows within the clouds.

THIMBLY And can be quite territorial.

ELDEN They’re usually only in the clouds on the Shadow Kingdom’s side of Sky Island, never close to the Kingdom of Aetheria.

THIMBLY (serious) Which means the disturbance in the realm that Elder Briarwood mentioned is more disturbing than we thought.

The atmosphere becomes eerie. The flock of STORM BEASTS emerges from the clouds, heading straight into their path.

They morph into even more monstrous shapes, gathering energy from the surrounding clouds. Thunderous roars and bursts of crackling lightning fill the air.

The strengthened Storm Beasts rush towards the Skylark Gondola. Thimbly puts on a pair of goggles and skillfully swerves to avoid them.

The new friends watch in horror as the storm beasts combine, forming a colossal semi-transparent figure in the sky.

(CONTINUED)

37 CONTINUED: (2)

The giant, monstrous shape is imposing and surreal, bearing down with jaws wide open -- about to swallow them up whole, down a throat waiting to roast the crew with a swirling hurricane of lighting bolts.

Sierra ducks and takes cover as lightning strikes the Skylark Gondola, disrupting their path and throwing them off course. The floating vehicle goes spinning out of control.

EXT. SOUTH EDGE OF SKY ISLAND

The magical continent stands before them as the Skylark Gondola crash-lands on a rocky surface. They tumble out, barely unscathed.

Sierra staggers to her feet, staring out at the astounding castle in the distance.

SIERRA We’re so far away. How are we going to see the King now?

THIMBLY Unfortunately, it seems we’ve been thrown many miles off course, away from the Kingdom of Aetheria.

ELDEN This is not good.

SIERRA On the bright side, at least we’ve reached Sky Island?

ELDEN We’re on Sky Island but it’s definitely not the bright side of this place.

He takes in their foreboding surroundings, realizing they’ve entered the territory of the Shadow Kingdom.

THIMBLY Things are about to get a lot more interesting.

Sierra looks around the rocky terrain, a landscape torn from the pages of a dark fantasy.

SIERRA What is this place? It’s like something out of a nightmare.

(CONTINUED)

38 CONTINUED:

ELDEN Or a most twisted fairy tale.

THIMBLY I’m not quite sure what our exact coordinates are, but it’s safe to say we’ve been blown off course into the territory of the Shadow Kingdom.

SIERRA Can you check it out, Elden?

ELDEN Of course.

Elden transforms himself back into the grey falcon and flies upwards towards the greying clouds.

What he sees is more haunting than he imagined -- a visually stunning world -- surreal and a gothic realm where whimsical and eerie elements coexist.

The atmosphere is imbued with a sense of mystery, both the macabre and enchanting blend seamlessly.

Elden flutters down from the sky, returns to his human shape, and plants his feet back on the rocky ground.

ELDEN We’re at the edges of the Shadow Kingdom. That much is clear.

THIMBLY It’s like there’s this sense of doom hanging over everything here.

SIERRA Let’s just go. We have to find our way to Aetheria to see the King. What other choice do we have?

ELDEN You’re right. Come on.

He plucks Thimbly from the ground and places her in his front coat pocket. As they start to walk, Sierra wipes a tear away from her cheek.

THIMBLY Why are you crying?

Sierra shakes her head, embarrassed.

39 CONTINUED: (2)

SIERRA It’s nothing.

ELDEN Tell us. We’re all friends now.

SIERRA Everything was wonderful for a moment there. And now this. I just thought things would work out. Even though nothing seems to ever work out for me.

ELDEN They still can. We are not immune to challenges though, just like your world often faces, Sierra.

SIERRA But thinking about fantastical lands of wonder like this was always my escape. Things weren’t easy for me growing up. Even though my life began like a fairy tale in a way.

EXT. MOUNTAINOUS ROAD - NIGHT

A cozy station wagon travels along a winding, snow- covered road. Skis racked on top.

INT. STATION WAGON - (TRAVELING)

Young Sierra is in the backseat reading The Light Princess with a small flashlight.

A WOMAN’S VOICE Sierra, time to put the book away. You’ll hurt your eyes.

Her loving PARENTS are up front.

YOUNG SIERRA I just have one chapter left.

SIERRA’S DAD (smiling) You heard her. Nothing comes between our daughter and a good book.

SIERRA’S MOM glances at Sierra.

SIERRA’S MOM Fine, but no more reading stories after this one, until we arrive at the lodge.

YOUNG SIERRA Deal.

Suddenly, the car hits a patch of black ice. Her dad tries to regain control, but the car slides off the road. Her mom screams. Everything goes black. The sound of approaching sirens pierces the silence.

EXT. SHADOW KINGDOM BORDERLANDS - CONTINUOUS

Sierra stares ahead at the fantastical Gothic dreamscape, reflecting on her past.

SIERRA After my parents’ deaths, I completely immersed myself into stories.

INT. FOSTER HOME - DAY

Sierra reads The Enchanted Castle hidden in an under stairs cupboard with her small flashlight. Other FOSTER CHILDREN play tag in the living room.

EXT. SHADOW KINGDOM BORDERLANDS - AS BEFORE

Sierra regains her composure.

SIERRA When I was old enough to leave, I did. ‘Cause I had this dream of sharing stories with the world.

THIMBLY You still can.

ELDEN And you’ll share this story one day too. But we have to keep going.

THIMBLY The best is yet to be.

(CONTINUED)

41 CONTINUED:

SIERRA You’re right. And we made a promise to Elder Briarwood.

ELDEN We did.

They move swiftly on foot ahead. Suddenly, the ground gives way under Sierra’s feet. She sinks down, disappearing into unknown regions.

THIMBLY (horrified) Sierra!

INT. AETHERIA CASTLE - KING’S STUDY

Moonlight filters through the ornate curtains as Marigold perches, silhouetted against the dimly lit room. The air is heavy with tension.

MARIGOLD (whispers) There’s no sign of Wisp anywhere within the Kingdom of Aetheria.

KING ALDER (frustrated) He must have followed Princess Laurel into the Forbidden Forest; that’s the only explanation.

MARIGOLD I’d be breaking the agreement if I willingly went past the boundaries to search for him.

KING ALDER I know. But I fear this means the Princess visited the Obsidian Grove, and a breach has already been made.

MARIGOLD Then we need to prepare ourselves for what’s coming.

The shadows seem to dance with uncertainty, casting a portentous tone as the King and Marigold brace for the unknown.

INT. STORYBOOK STORE - SECRET ROOM - DAY

Nana carefully places a ribbon bookmark, attached to the head of the spine, in “The Lost Fairy Tale” manuscript and closes the book.

TOBY Hey, what about the rest of the story?

Toby appears disappointed.

NANA (smiling) You didn’t expect me to finish it all in one sitting did you?

TOBY But I need to know what happened to Sierra when she slipped through the ground. And what’s going on with Princess Laurel?

Nana grins knowingly.

NANA You’ll find out soon enough. But I need to stretch my legs. And I should make you a snack.

Toby considers the offer.

TOBY I am kind of hungry.

EXT. COASTAL BLUFF TRAIL - DAY

Toby trudges alongside Nana on a winding footpath surrounded by breathtaking coastal views and a vibrant patch of wild flowers.

TOBY (looking around) Why do you keep The Lost Fairy Tale locked away on your shelf? Shouldn’t more people know about it? Everyone loves classics, but we need new stories too.

He takes a hearty bite from a turkey pesto baguette sandwich in a cloth napkin.

(CONTINUED)

43 CONTINUED:

NANA (teasingly) So, you enjoy exploring new realms of imagination, do you?

She smiles cheekily, her eyes sparkling.

TOBY (grinning) Yeah, I like this one so far. It’s like being part of a real-life fairy tale.

NANA This story is special to me. It took me awhile to get it all down. And I felt it was important that you be the one to hear it first.

Nana gazes out at seabirds soaring overhead.

TOBY (surprised) Me over Mom?

NANA Perhaps, I’ll share it with her one day too.

TOBY Well, I’m glad you picked me to be the one to tell it to.

NANA And I’m glad you seem to be enjoying it.

TOBY (nodding) I am. But what I still can’t wrap my head around is: did Sierra’s words bring the world she imagined into existence with the quill's magical properties, or was it there already?

NANA (mysteriously) You’ll have to go with your gut on that one.

Toby contemplates the conundrum, his expression thoughtful.

(CONTINUED)

44 CONTINUED: (2)

TOBY (after a moment) I think it was there already.

NANA (smiling) You might be onto something.

They walk on, enveloped in the beauty of nature and the enchantment of the unfolding tale.

EXT. UNDERGROUND CAVERN - AS BEFORE

Sierra free falls through the air, screaming in terror. She lands on the dusty floor with a thud and stares up at the sunlit hole high above her.

SIERRA (moaning) Well, that was not fun at all.

Thimbly calls down to her.

THIMBLY (concerned) Sierra, are you okay?

SIERRA (slowly getting up) Um, kind of? No broken bones as far as I can tell.

ELDEN (shouting down) Hang on, we’re coming down to help you.

EXT. SHADOW KINGDOM BORDERLANDS - CONTINUOUS

Elden swiftly transforms back into a grey falcon, and Thimbly hops onto his back. They dive into the hole, hurtling beneath the surface, with Thimbly gripping Elden’s feathers tightly for dear life.

INT. UNDERGROUND CAVERN - CONTINUOUS

Elden lands on Sierra’s shoulder in falcon form, with Thimbly on his back. She gazes up at the sunlit hole in the cavern above.

(CONTINUED)

45 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (looking up) There’s no way I can climb up there; it’s way too high.

ELDEN (determined) Then we have to find a way to get you out of here.

Sierra’s eyes fall upon a rusty old mine cart standing on a railway outside a darkened tunnel.

SIERRA (pointing) That track must lead to an opening in the caverns that can get us outside.

THIMBLY (skeptical) Or somewhere we don’t want to go.

SIERRA (resolute) Our options are pretty limited right now, and I’m too big to fly on Elden’s back.

Thimbly acknowledges, smiling.

THIMBLY Being small does come in handy.

SIERRA (enthusiastically) Here, help me push it. Let’s get some traction, then jump in.

They follow Sierra over to the mine cart and start guiding it along the track. Sierra opens the door, stepping inside with Elden and Thimbly.

The mine cart starts to move briskly down the track into the pitch-black tunnel.

INT. UNDERGROUND TUNNEL SYSTEM - CONTINUOUS

The cold air blows through Sierra’s hair as she grips the edges of the mine cart. Bats flutter over them. The ride is bumpy.

(CONTINUED)

46 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (gritting her teeth) We’re good. We’re gonna be okay. Everyone just stay calm.

Sierra and Thimbly exchange an apprehensive look.

THIMBLY (pale) I think I’m going to be sick.

The mine cart picks up speed, careening around a sharp curve on the track -- one after another, like the front row of an indoor rollercoaster riding through darkness.

They all start screaming as the mine cart dips over a steep drop.

INT. UNDERGROUND REALM - ESTABLISHING

The mine cart hurtles out from a tunnel, clinging precariously to a broken track. It bursts into a colossal cavern, a cathedral of darkness adorned with towering stalagmites. The faint glow of phosphorescent fungi barely illuminates the high ceiling.

The mine cart catapults into the void, and our heroes instinctively huddle, anticipating the impact. The front collides with a rock, jolting the adventurers onto the rocky ground.

INT. UNDERGROUND REALM - CONTINUOUS

The cavern echoes with the distant sound of dripping water and the low rumble of unseen underground activity.

Sierra rises, shaking off the dust, her determined gaze, sweeping the cavern. She brushes dirt from her clothes.

SIERRA (smiling wryly) The hits really keep coming.

Sierra takes a moment to assess the situation, her eyes adjusting to the dim light filtering through the cavern’s natural opening.

SIERRA (looking around) Well, at least we made it out in one piece.

(CONTINUED)

47 CONTINUED:

Thimbly and Elden (back in human form), slowly pick themselves up, groaning and rubbing sore spots.

ELDEN Speak for yourself. I think I left my stomach back in that tunnel.

THIMBLY (wincing) Remind me never to take a rollercoaster in an underground realm again.

The cavern seems to stretch endlessly in all directions, with multiple tunnels branching off into the darkness. Sierra notices tiny doors on the cavern walls.

SIERRA Are those some type of dwellings?

THIMBLY (looking uneasy) Let’s not stick around to find out who lives here.

ELDEN (urgent) It’s too late for that.

Strange eyes pop up from all corners. The glow of torches illuminate the stadium-like cavern as Sierra, Thimbly and Elden find themselves surrounded.

THIMBLY (trembling) We’re in the domain of the goblins.

Legions of ferocious-looking GOBLINS step into view, pointed-ears, sharp teeth and, vibrant green skin. They all start muttering, intrigued by the unexpected presence of a human girl.

ELDEN Run!

They take off towards an opening across the way, but their path is blocked when the hulking Goblin Lord - GRIMSNARL - ten times the size of the others, with a grotesque visage, pounds out from the tunnel.

With a twisted half-smile, Grimsnarl grabs Sierra by the leg and hangs her upside down, peering up.

(CONTINUED)

48 CONTINUED: (2)

GRIMSNARL (snickering) What is this toothsome snack we have here?

Sierra tries to break free. Elden holds out his hand, pleading with the Goblin Lord.

ELDEN (explaining) She’s a dreamer. We didn’t mean to cross into the Shadow Kingdom, we were blown off course and wound up down here.

A long-haired female goblin shouts -- Silence!

GRIMSNARL (studying Sierra) I have to say, I don’t care much for dreamers. They covet our magic.

He regards piles of rare minerals mined for their magical properties and potions.

GRIMSNARL (suspicious) Did you come to steal it?

SIERRA (defiant) No, I didn’t.

GRIMSNARL I don’t know if I believe you.

Sierra’s body heats up, glowing with blue light. It stings Grimsnarl, who drops her to the ground. Sierra lands on her feet, astonished at her own power (as is everyone else).

GRIMSNARL Seems like the Ever After has taken to you. Maybe I should dissect you and see what makes a dreamer like you so special.

He unsheathes a sword at his waist.

SIERRA I’d rather not.

(CONTINUED)

49 CONTINUED: (3)

Elden transforms back into a falcon, Thimbly hops on his back, and they follow Sierra as she takes off running towards the open tunnel.

GRIMSNARL (roaring) Get them!

Hordes of screeching goblins give chase.

INT. UNDERGROUND REALM - TUNNEL

As Sierra and her friends flee, the goblins dash in a frenzy after them, rushing on all fours against the walls and ceiling of the tunnel -- teeth glistening, ready to close in.

THIMBLY (amazed) What did you do back there?

Thimbly looks at Sierra running, as she sits on top of Elden in flight by their human friend’s side.

ELDEN That was pretty impressive.

SIERRA (panting) I have no idea.

Suddenly, the little goblins are everywhere, chomping at Sierra’s ankles as she tries to escape them.

ELDEN (shouting) Stamp on their feet!

She looks at Elden.

SIERRA (confused) What?

THIMBLY (urgently) They have very soft, sensitive feet! They hate having their little feet stomped on.

Sierra darkens, stops for a moment, and starts stomping on the feet of each goblin that flings itself at her.

(CONTINUED)

50 CONTINUED:

The goblins grab their feet and wince in pain, whimpering like children. The effectiveness of this method only enlivens Sierra more, as she continues stomping on any tiny feet she sees.

GRIMSNARL You think you’re so clever, do you?

Grimsnarl roars, thundering down the tunnel after them. He pushes all the little goblins out of the way, clearing a path, and barrels towards Sierra like a freight train.

SIERRA (panicking) Oh, no.

GRIMSNARL (snickering) That won’t work on me. See, I wear stone shoes.

He indicates his functional footwear made of stone.

GRIMSNARL (grinning) Into the dungeon, you go girl!

The iron gates of a musty dungeon fling open, and he tosses Sierra inside. While Thimbly and Elden quickly retreat, hiding in a tiny crevice in the corner of the ceiling on the other side of the dungeon.

INT. GOBLIN DUNGEON - SOON AFTER

Grimsnarl slams the door shut and locks it with a key on a ring. Sierra bangs on the bars, screaming.

SIERRA (angry) Let me out of here! Or I swear I’ll kill you all!

Grimsnarl smirks unbothered.

GRIMSNARL It’s no use. I’m going to wager you won’t heat your hands up enough to melt those bars.

He tosses the keys to a diminutive GOBLIN GUARD. Sierra’s eyes burn with rage.

(CONTINUED)

51 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (muttering) We’ll see about that.

Grimsnarl waves her off and starts heading down the tunnel back to his lair.

GRIMSNARL (chuckling) I’ll be back to check on you in a week or so. Still curious how you made yourself glow like that.

Sierra sighs, backs away against the wall, and slips down to the floor. She hides her head against her folded arms on her knees in defeat.

INT. TUNNEL CORRIDORS - SHORT TIME LATER

With Thimbly on his falcon back, Elden and his thumbling friend watch the changing of the Goblin Guards from their hiding spot in the rafters.

INT. GOBLIN DUNGEON - SAME TIME

Sierra slowly raises her head, getting an idea. Something she’s skeptical of. But then again, this is the Ever After. She removes the leather-bound manuscript and enchanted quill from the knapsack on her back.

Sierra opens the book and begins writing on a blank page:

SIERRA (V.O.) Elden and Thimbly were loyal friends who refused to leave the Dreamer to rot in a dreary cell.

INT. TUNNEL CORRIDOR - RAFTERS

Elden, in falcon form, hops through a dusky crawl space, surrounded by discarded canisters. Head on a swivel, Thimbly searches the surroundings for anything that could aid in freeing Sierra from her prison.

SIERRA (V.O.) The pair would not give up.

Thimbly pulls back on Elden’s feather, signaling him to halt him. Her gaze fixes on a canister labeled -- Moonstone Dust.

(CONTINUED)

52 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (V.O.) With her encyclopedic knowledge of raw magical properties, Thimbly knew the dust extracted from rare moonstones found in enchanted caves was a key ingredient for making sleeping potions.

INT. GOBLIN DUNGEON -SOON AFTER

Frustrated, Sierra puts the enchanted quill down and closes the leather-bound manuscript.

SIERRA (voice filled with doubt) Stupid, it’s never going to work. They’re not coming to rescue me. No one ever does. It’s just me and me, like always. Or at least since that dumb ski trip I had to have my parents take me on. I was such a little brat!

Sierra screams and pounds her fists on the dirt floor, tears streaming down her face. After she lets it all out:

A WOMAN’S VOICE It could be worse. It could be a lot worse. I have a witch coming to collect me because she wishes to put my head in her cauldron and make a stew of sorts to eat.

Sierra slowly lifts her head towards the voice in a darkened corner across the dungeon.

SIERRA (curious) Is it Ravenna?

A WOMAN’S VOICE (laughing) Ravenna? No, Ravenna is an enchantress, not a witch.

SIERRA (puzzled) Isn’t that kind of the same thing?

A WOMAN’S VOICE No, it isn’t. But you’re a dreamer. (MORE)

(CONTINUED)

53 CONTINUED:

A WOMAN’S VOICE (CONT’D) You’re new here, I get it. Oferla, who wants my head, is just a plain old low-level witch living in a shack amidst the Forbidden Forest. She’s average in every way possible. I find it insulting that I might die by her hand.

SIERRA Why does she want your head? That’s so morbid.

A WOMAN’S VOICE I mean isn’t it obvious? Witches highly value heads as big as mine.

GWENDOLYN THE GIANTESS pokes her head out from the shadows on the other side of the dungeon. Confident yet thoughtful with an (obviously) imposing stature. A wide- brimmed hat sits on her head and a chain attached to the stone wall wraps around her ankle.

SIERRA (gapes) Oh, you’re a giantess.

A MAN’S VOICE Not just any giantess. She’s Gwendolyn the Giantess -- one of the most famous giantesses in all of the Ever After.

GWEN Just Gwen will do.

Beside her, a rather large BROWN BEAR lumbers out on all fours. Sierra adjusts her eyes to the sight of another talking animal.

SIERRA (shocked) And this is your... pet bear?

BEAR I’m not her pet, no.

GWEN He’s like a buddy I made recently. Comes on a bit strong at first, but grows on you.

(CONTINUED)

54 CONTINUED: (2)

BEAR (to Sierra) Do you mind removing that nail from the wall?

The Bear swings his head in the direction of a hand- wrought iron nail protruding from the stone wall.

INT. TUNNEL CORRIDOR - RAFTERS

Elden, in falcon form, shoots a glance at Thimbly in a corner who is working fast to weave some spider silk she found into a small net.

ELDEN Almost done?

THIMBLY Just about.

She puts the last touches on the small net, then hops up on the canister of moonstone dust.

ELDEN You are quite resourceful.

THIMBLY Thank you. Now remember not to inhale any of this.

Thimbly uses her spider silk net to scoop up a generous helping of moonstone dust. The fine threads of the net shimmer as they delicately collect the magical substance.

INT. GOBLIN DUNGEON - CONTINUOUS

Sierra’s eyes lock onto the nail in the stone wall.

SIERRA Sure. That’s kind of an odd request, but okay.

Sierra goes over and removes it. When she does, the bear rises up on its hind legs and transforms into a strikingly handsome man, dressed like he’s on a quest.

SIERRA (wide-eyed) Whoa, I just pull out this nail from the wall, then he turns from a bear to a man?

(CONTINUED)

55 CONTINUED:

Sierra stares dumbfounded at the nail in her hand.

GWEN (explains) Fairy tale worlds are like that sometimes. Everything’s all so unexpected, all the time. But you get used to it.

SIERRA I mean, it shouldn’t surprise me now. I’ve already made a friend who turns into a falcon. But can turn back into a human whenever he wants to.

The Handsome Man seems embittered by that.

HANDSOME MAN I wasn’t given that option. There’s no room for freewill apparently when Oferla the Witch casts a spell on you. She even has this little boy she trained to be a giant stalker. And no his name isn’t Jack.

SIERRA (disapproving) A little boy? Trained to be a giant stalker? That doesn’t seem right.

HANDSOME MAN Trust me, don’t feel sorry for him. He’s a little hellion. Anyway, it was just a few days ago that I was on my latest quest and I met Gwen here. I was thrilled since I’ve admired her ambitious feats from afar for sometime.

EXT. FORBIDDEN FOREST - DAY

Gwen proceeds cautiously among massive misshapen trees that come up to her neck, entranced by the nightmarish landscape before her.

GWEN (V.O.) (chimes in) I was just out there trying to live my life. (MORE)

(CONTINUED)

56 CONTINUED:

GWEN (V.O.) (CONT'D) Things were becoming dull on the sky island where I’m from, so I thought I’d visit the legendary “Forbidden Forest” as a sort of extreme travel experience. I’m a big girl, what do I have to worry about, right?

As she moves along, reveal -- her new QUESTER friend happily sitting on her shoulder.

HANDSOME MAN (V.O.) We were having the best time.

Abruptly, Gwen loses her balance as her foot entwines in a root snare trap. A wild-haired YOUNG BOY comes swinging on a branch towards her as she hits the ground.

HANDSOME MAN (V.O.) But this little boy pops down from the trees with all these fancy contraptions. It’s really quite embarrassing for someone like me.

Coming to the Wild Boy’s aid, dozens of goblins pour out chaotically from the twisted trees.

HANDSOME MAN (V.O.) Somehow, we got overpowered and wound up in here, waiting for Oferla to pick us so she can take us home and boil our heads in her cauldron, presumably.

INT. TUNNEL CORRIDOR - SECONDS LATER

Elden, a sleek shadow, swoops down from the rafters with Thimbly riding on his back.

THIMBLY (under her breath) Bombs away.

The Goblin Guard looks up, eyes widening as Thimbly pelts him in the face with a spider-silk net filled with shimmering moonstone dust. He recoils, caught off guard, and lets out a surprised sneeze.

The air glitters as Elden gracefully weaves through the moonstone haze, carrying Thimbly on a daring flight. Thimbly covers her nose, eyes squinting against the magical particles.

57 CONTINUED:

The Goblin Guard, overcome by the enchanting dust, flops to the floor, out like a light.

INT. GOBLIN DUNGEON - CONTINUOUS

Sierra absorbs her cellmate’s backstory.

SIERRA How’d you then turn into a bear?

HANDSOME MAN That’s the kicker. It seems Oferla gave this mini-giant stalker boy an enchanted nail so she could make a bear throw rug out of me. The goblins all went along with the plan because they want me out of the picture.

Sierra looks at him curiously.

SIERRA What do the goblins have against you? Are you a dreamer too?

He scoffs.

HANDSOME MAN (takes offense) No, I’m a Quester.

SIERRA A Quester? Sounds kind of self- explanatory.

Elden (in falcon form) flutters into the cell, then flops to sleep on the floor with Thimbly riding on his back.

THIMBLY (starstruck) Not just any quester...

CARRICK (smiling) Thought I could go under the radar but looks like the cat’s out of the bag -- Yes, I’m Carrick Emberwind. It’s really me. Not an impersonator. How do you do?

He locks eyes dreamily with Sierra, as if his name comes with built-in audience awareness.

(CONTINUED)

58 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (going with it) I’m doing okay given the circumstances. (pointing, concerned) These are my friends Elden...

She regards Elden (still in falcon form) passed out.

THIMBLY (off this) He just inhaled some moonstone dust. He’ll be fine.

SIERRA And Thimbly Thumbnickel -- she is a thumbling but please, just don’t get her confused with Thumbelina.

GWEN I don’t even know who that is.

THIMBLY Oh please, everyone knows she’s a thinly-veiled version of me.

SIERRA You don’t know for sure if Hans Christian Andersen even visited the Ever After. Not all storytellers base their writings on other things and people. They have an imagination of their own too, you know.

THIMBLY (unconvinced) The similarities are all too convenient and a little too close to home.

Carrick claps his hands, then makes two fists.

CARRICK Well, I love thumblings. They’re great. So interesting and fun. You hardly see them around anymore.

Thimbly blushes.

(CONTINUED)

59 CONTINUED: (2)

THIMBLY Just check the tulip beds. But we rarely go on any quests, like the one I’m on now with Sierra and Elden. Not all thumblings get the quest itch like I do.

Thimbly casually does a nail flick, as if to punctuate her point. Her gaze shifts back to Carrick, a smirk playing on her lips. Carrick looks at them curiously.

CARRICK (surprised) You’re on a quest too?

SIERRA Yes, we’re headed to the Kingdom of Aetheria to hopefully get to talk to the king. His daughter, the Turnip Princess is going through some things.

Carrick looks bored.

THIMBLY Well, King Alder is also said to know where the Everlasting Pearl is on Glass Mountain. That’s like the big finale of our quest, if all goes well.

CARRICK (impressed) Reviving the Everlasting Pearl on Glass Mountain and allowing it to shoot up in the sky once again is the quest everyone wants.

SIERRA Then why didn’t you ever go?

Sierra raises an eyebrow, prompting Gwen to respond. She puts her hand up to the side of her mouth, leaning in conspiratorially.

GWEN Because it’s being guarded by a glass dragon.

Sierra and Thimbly are shocked by the disclosure.

THIMBLY (wide-eyed) A glass dragon?

(CONTINUED)

60 CONTINUED: (3)

SIERRA That’s the formidable adversary Elder Briarwood mentioned that guards Glass Mountain?

GWEN What did you expect? That’s what dragons are for.

SIERRA I don’t know. Something that was just going to ask us a riddle.

Carrick waves dismissive.

CARRICK I’m not afraid of Glaedrith. I just haven’t gotten around to Glass Mountain yet. I’ve been on all kinds of quests on all the different sky islands, it helps me better understand the nuances of the Ever After.

INT. QUESTER SCHOOL - (FLASHBACK)

1) Young Carrick and a group of students listen intently to their INSTRUCTOR - a strapping fantasy hero-looking man at the front of the classroom.

2) The Instructor pulls down different maps of the various sky islands in the Ever After from a chart roller.

3) In the lively courtyard of Quester School, Young Questers hone their skills in a spirited display of wooden swordsmanship.

EXT. QUESTER HOMELAND - DAY

The most ordinary and non-fantastical sky island in all of the Ever After. Young Carrick stands at a rocky edge taking in the glorious sight of the different awe- inspiring sky islands looming in the distance.

CARRICK After graduation, I left home for the wide world to fulfill my destiny.

61

INT. GOBLIN DUNGEON - AS BEFORE

The eerie ambiance resumes as Carrick, back in the present, concludes his tale.

CARRICK (looking around) You see, I’m from a family of questers. My brothers, my sisters, my mother, father, grandparents and so on. They’re all either currently or have been some of the most prolific questers in all the lands.

GWEN The Emberwinds are an impressive brood. A multitude of questly talent and charisma.

SIERRA Then as an experienced quester, do you have any ideas of how we can get out of here?

THIMBLY We can just unlock the dungeon door.

Before Carrick can respond, Thimbly holds up the key on a ring she snatched from the Goblin Guard.

THIMBLY This skeleton key should work on your shackles too. We did a little reconnaissance work. After all, my size makes it easy for me to hide in unlikely places.

SIERRA (thrilled) So, the story did come true! I imagined you and Elden finding the moonstone dust, then I wrote down in my manuscript book.

THIMBLY Did you imagine us finding the moonstone dust while we were doing it, or did you write it down before?

Sierra is struck by the quandary.

(CONTINUED)

62 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (looking at her manuscript, puzzled) I’m not quite sure. But I was here using the Enchanted Quill from my bag, writing the whole thing out.

She reaches over, opens up her knapsack, showing the enchanted quill in its pen box and the manuscript.

THIMBLY Wow, that Enchanted Quill is so multi-faceted.

Thimbly, with nimble fingers, retrieves the stolen skeleton key from her pocket. She goes over, unlocks Carrick and Gwen’s leg irons, freeing them.

GWEN Oh, that’s much better. Thank you.

Gwen, rubbing her swollen ankle, sighs in relief. Carrick regards Sierra.

CARRICK (with a wry smile) May I have the nail? I’ve got no intention of being turned back into a bear.

Sierra hands the nail over. Then, peers down at Elden still sleeping on the floor, in falcon form.

SIERRA What about Elden?

THIMBLY Just put him in your bag.

Sierra cradles Elden gently, his feathery form fitting snuggly in her hands. With utmost care, she places him inside her knapsack.

CARRICK Now that we’ve got everything, let’s hurry along.

Thimbly points to his iron shoes.

THIMBLY I love your shoes by the way.

(CONTINUED)

63 CONTINUED: (2)

CARRICK (smiling) Thanks, they’re the standard issue iron shoes all the questers in my homeland get before they leave on their quest.

INT. TUNNEL CORRIDOR - SOON AFTER

The party, now freed from their shackles, cautiously emerges from the dimly lit dungeon.

As they press on, the tunnel system stretches out before them, a labyrinthine network of twisting passages. Carrick, his eyes determined, addresses the group.

CARRICK You all go ahead, Grimsnarl and I have some unfinished business. He has my quest pouch.

Sierra, concerned, speaks up.

SIERRA Are you sure? We can wait for you.

Carrick, with a stern expression, insists.

CARRICK No, just get out while you still can. There’s a trap door in the ceiling up ahead that leads to the Faeflame Badlands. That’s how we were brought in. Gwen will take you there, and I’ll catch up.

The group exchanges uneasy glances but nods in understanding. As Carrick turns a corner, his footsteps echoing in the narrow tunnel, he heads off towards what we can only assume is Grimsnarl’s lair.

EXT./INT. GOBLIN DUNGEON - SAME TIME

The Goblin Guard regains consciousness, picking himself up off the floor. He peers through the bars, realizing the prisoners have escaped and sounds the alarm.

INT. TUNNEL SYSTEM - CONTINUOUS

Chaos erupts! A harsh clang echoes through the stone corridors, alerting every goblin within earshot.

(CONTINUED)

64 CONTINUED:

Goblins scurry about, their crude weapons clanging against the armor as they mobilize.

SIERRA They know we’ve escaped.

GWEN It’s not that much farther.

Ducking down and feeling claustrophobic, Gwen pulses ahead with Sierra, who keeps a frazzled Thimbly secure in her coat pocket.

THIMBLY Oh dear, oh dear. Please get us out of here. I don’t want to be turned into a tasty thumbling skewer snack for the Goblins.

Gwen smirks, acknowledging her pint-sized companion’s mix of anxiety and wit.

GWEN Don’t worry, Thimbly. We’ll make sure you stay in one piece.

Amidst the commotion, the trio’s escape becomes a race against time.

INT. UNDERGROUND REALM - GRIMSNARL’S LAIR

Tiny goblins bomb down on Carrick from the rafters above, attempting to bite him wherever they can. He throws them off one by one, then storms into Grimsnarl’s abode.

CARRICK (bellows) Grimsnarl! I want my quest pouch back!

Grimsnarl, seated in a high-back stone chair by a table and fireplace, turns around.

GRIMSNARL Come and take it.

The quest pouch sits on the corner of Grimsnarl’s table. Carrick charges, Grimsnarl topples the table over. The brawl begins!

A pack of goblins forms a cheering audience, a rousing synth score kicks in as the two square up.

65 CONTINUED:

Carrick leaps, slamming his iron-shoed feet into Grimsnarl’s chest.

The Goblin Lord flies backwards in slo-mo, then slams against the stone wall.

GRIMSNARL I’m gonna destroy that gorgeous mug of yours!

They collide in fierce hand-to-hand combat, crashing a Goblin Armory. Carrick dodges each strike, narrowly avoiding losing his head.

Seizing a spiked mace, Carrick fights Grimsnarl off. The Goblin Cleaver is knocked away. Carrick headbutts Grimsnarl.

The enchanted nail slips out of Carrick’s pocket. Pings onto the floor. Grimsnarl notices, he goes for Carrick’s legs and tackles him down, swinging him around. Thrown across the room, Carrick lands.

GRIMSNARL Oferla was right. You will make a great rug.

Grimsnarl snatches the nail up, grabs a hammer, and slams the enchanted nail into the wall.

Carrick transforms into a large BROWN BEAR and roars.

CARRICK Really? You want to fight me as a bear?

Grimsnarl hesitates.

CARRICK I’m done with this bear get-up. I’m fearsome enough as it is.

Carrick pulls the enchanted nail, chucks it into the fireplace, and transforms back. He looks down at Grimsnarl’s big soft green feet.

GRIMSNARL Oh, would you look at that, you’re not wearing your shoes.

Carrick rushes, stomps on Grimsnarl’s toes, then grabs him by the neck, slamming him onto the table.

As the spectacle unfolds, someone screams -- Finish him!

(CONTINUED)

66 CONTINUED: (2)

CARRICK I’m going to show you mercy. After all, if I killed you - what kind of role model would I be for the children watching?

He cocks his head at the horde of little goblins, now looking kind of cute and harmless with puppy dog eyes.

Carrick grabs his quest pouch, bolts out of the lair, and hurries off down the tunnel. Grimsnarl holds his aching head.

GRIMSNARL (calling out) I’m still going to get the horn of that unicorn!

Carrick glances back behind.

CARRICK We’ll see about that!

INT. TUNNEL CORRIDOR - CONTINUOUS

Gwen arrives at the trapdoor in the ceiling, swiftly pushing it open. She lifts Sierra and tosses her through the trapdoor. Turning her head, she catches the distant echo of a voice in the tunnel.

CARRICK Wait for me!

Carrick turns a winding corner, sprinting towards Gwen with wild arms swinging. A relentless wave of fierce goblins of all shapes and sizes barrels towards him in a rip-roaring chase.

GWEN Let’s do this, Emberwind.

Gwen opens her arms wide. Carrick, a big smile on his face, races towards her. Upon reaching her, Gwen places her substantial hands around his waist and executes a powerful basket toss, propelling him up and out through the trapdoor.

EXT. FAEFLAME BADLANDS - MOONLIT NIGHT

Gwen pulls herself out of the trapdoor, a frenzy of goblins cling to her leg.

(CONTINUED)

67 CONTINUED:

GWEN This is a tight squeeze.

She kicks them away, climbs out, then slams the trapdoor shut. Before our heroes lies a surreal landscape with contorted rock formations.

SIERRA Where are we?

CARRICK The Faeflame Badlands. Notoriously nightmarish region of the Shadow Kingdom.

SIERRA Would be one way to describe it.

Rustling sounds emanate from Sierra’s knapsack.

ELDEN (O.S.) Hey, can someone let me out of here?

SIERRA Looks like Elden’s up.

Sierra opens her bag. Elden flies out, stretching his wings. He transforms back into his human self.

ELDEN (dumbstruck) What’d I miss? And what are Gwendolyn The Giantess and Carrick Emberwind doing with us?

THIMBLY (from Sierra’s coat pocket) Oh, Elden, my man, you missed a lot of action! It was wild -- goblins chasing us, trapdoors, and Gwen tossing around humans like it’s a circus. Best quest ever!

The camera begins to ascend, rising above the Faeflame Badlands. As the mystical landscape unfolds below, Sierra and her friends become small figures.

NANA (V.O.) And just when Sierra and her friends had found new allies in their adventure, the threats to the Kingdom of Aetheria were worsening...

EXT. CLIFFSIDE BEACH - TWILIGHT

Nana continues to read The Lost Fairy Tale manuscript, the rhythmic sound of waves accompanying her words on the sandy beach below her home.

TOBY I hope they can save the fallen princess. It’s not her fault she went into the Obsidian Grove. She just wanted to understand her world.

He gazes out at the clouds and ocean in the blue of twilight. The salty breeze carries a hint of the Ever After, as if boundaries between worlds blur in this tranquil moment.

NANA I know your parents separating and your father moving across the country has been tough.

TOBY The toughest thing I’ve had to face, really. But I should probably not make it any worse for my mom, than it already is.

NANA Probably not. (looking at the horizon) Sometimes the world can throw things at us unexpectedly. It’s like the turning tide - unceasing and inevitable. But, my dear, it’s not about the waves that crash upon us; it’s about how we learn to navigate the ebb and flow. Life’s challenges sculpt us, much like the relentless sea shapes the shore. They carve resilience into our beings, and it’s that resilience that makes us who we are.

Seagulls call in the distance, blending with the soft rustle of leaves. The sun, a mere sliver on the horizon bathes the beach in warm hues.

EXT. EDGE OF THE FORBIDDEN FOREST - NIGHT

Princess Laurel and Ravenna meet in the shadows, the silhouette of the Forbidden Forest looming in the background.

PRINCESS LAUREL I’ve never felt so alive in my life. If everyone could have this power, there’d be no misery. No envy, no hate.

RAVENNA Before your father built that castle, the land was untouched. The magic raw and powerful, coursed through everything.

Princess Laurel gazes at the seeds in Ravenna’s palm, a glint of curiosity in her eyes.

PRINCESS LAUREL I want it to return to the way it was, when magic had no limits.

Ravenna pricks her fingertip, a drop of blood slipping onto the seeds.

RAVENNA Plant these seeds in your garden tonight. We can set this right together and take back what was lost.

EXT. FORBIDDEN FOREST - NIGHT

Wisp lies on his back, barely clinging to life, shivering in the cold, and staring up at the starry sky. A large shadow passes over him.

OFERLA, a formidable witch with an air of mystery, approaches. Her hair, an ever-shifting canvas, swirls in glowing shades of purple and blue, reflecting her current mood.

OFERLA What do we have here?

(CONTINUED)

70 CONTINUED:

The Wild Boy steps out from behind her, holding a handheld animal cage.

WILD BOY That’s a white weasel.

Oferla’s hair ignites in a fiery red hue, a visual manifestation of her annoyance.

OFERLA Obviously.

WILD BOY Then why did you ask?

OFERLA Do not talk back, Naughty. Put him in the cage. I’ll have you skin him good and make some ear-warmers for me.

Wisp, frightened by the disclosure, watches as the Wild Boy picks up his limp body.

WILD BOY He’s kind of cute. Can’t I keep him as a pet?

OFERLA (scoffs) Absolutely not.

She grabs Wisp, tosses him into the cage, and locks it securely. Her hair transitions to a cool silver that shimmers in the moonlight.

INT. AETHERIA CASTLE - MAGICAL GARDEN - NIGHT

King Alder slips inside, his worry etched on his face, his eyes searching for his daughter. As he moves through the garden, his gaze is drawn to a spot where the humble turnip once grew.

Now, in its place, stands a black thorn bush, ominous and foreboding. The sight unsettles him, sending shivers down his spine -- an eerie portent that something otherworldly has taken root in the heart of the castle’s sanctuary.

Marigold, the spymaster owl, perches gracefully on a floral nymph statue by a moonlit fountain.

71 CONTINUED:

MARIGOLD I fear Wisp is lost to the Forbidden Forest.

King Alder, troubled, paces beside the fountain.

KING ALDER Ravenna’s revenge knows no bounds. Ready the guards. An attack could be imminent.

Marigold nods and takes flight, disappearing into the starry night.

INT. AETHERIA CASTLE - NIGHT

King Alder strides towards a balustraded parapet, his expression fraught with concern. Princess Laurel stands gazing at the night sky, her silhouette illuminated by the moon’s glow.

KING ALDER I need to know, Princess Laurel. Did you visit the Lady in the Woods?

Princess Laurel turns slowly, her eyes aglow with an unearthly tint of orange-yellow, a subtle shimmer dancing within them.

PRINCESS LAUREL I did. She unraveled the enchantment of these lands. For years, you painted the Shadow Kingdom as a malevolent force. It isn’t what you claimed.

The tension thickens as King Alder grapples with the revelation.

KING ALDER Let me help you. The force in the Obsidian Grove, it will twist your mind, as it did hers.

Undeterred, the Princess shakes her head.

PRINCESS LAUREL No, father. I don’t need help. Ravenna guided me to the truth. Magic yearns to be free. She liberated me.

72 CONTINUED:

A wry smile plays upon her lips as the air around her seems to shimmer with arcane energy.

KING ALDER (pleading) Stop this madness at once.

PRINCESS LAUREL I seek the Everlasting Pearl. Ravenna says you guard its secret.

KING ALDER You can’t have it.

Princess Laurel’s temper flares, a storm brewing in her eyes. She raises her arms up to the sky.

PRINCESS LAUREL Then I’ll claim it all. Your kingdom and the Pearl.

The castle quakes as thorny roots burst forth, coiling around the ivory columns like serpentine guardians.

KING ALDER By the Wonders... never in all my years.

EXT. AETHERIA CASTLE - MAGICAL GARDEN - NIGHT

As the thorny roots entwine the castle, an otherworldly wind sweeps through the air. Ethereal blossoms of magical energy burst from the roots, casting a haunting glow across the castle courtyard.

The black thorn bush in the Magical Garden quivers as if awakened. Its blossoms, now infused with a dark, iridescent light, unfurl into an intricate pattern.

EXT. FAEFLAME BADLANDS - LATER

Sierra and her friends travel deeper into the woods.

ELDEN This is unreal. Gwendolyn the Giantess and Carrick Emberwind teamed up on their own adventure?

Thimbly sits on Elden’s shoulder.

(CONTINUED)

73 CONTINUED:

THIMBLY I know I’ve been fangirling the whole time.

CARRICK I mean the adventure was cut short pretty fast by that little giant stalker rascal.

Thimbly glances over at his quester pouch.

THIMBLY (eager to know) Hey Carrick, what’s in your quester pouch?

CARRICK All my essentials. My whispering map, jar of fireflies, shapeshifting key to fit any lock, feather of fortune to bring me luck, and other little surprises I might pull out on this quest.

THIMBLY Elden, mind if I?

Thimbly gestures towards the sky, signaling Elden to take flight and give her a lift to Gwen.

ELDEN Ah, the wings the wings are back in business. Falcon mode, engage!

Sierra nods approvingly. In a poof of magic, Elden transforms back into a falcon, hovering by Gwen’s head with Thimbly.

THIMBLY Gwen, your hat is fantastic. Mind if I take a break from flying and rest on it? Elden’s back can get a bit dizzy.

Thimbly gestures to Gwen’s wide-brimmed hat.

GWEN Of course, go ahead.

Thimbly gracefully hops off Elden, finding a cozy spot on the brim of Gwen’s hat.

THIMBLY Thanks, Big Sis.

74 CONTINUED: (2)

GWEN (makes a face) Don’t call me that.

Sierra walks alongside Carrick.

SIERRA So the goblins just kidnapped you because you were with Gwen, and Oferla wants her head?

CARRICK There’s more to it than that. I came to Sky Island to find this unicorn.

SIERRA A unicorn? I wasn’t even sure if they existed here or not. Between us, I was hoping they did.

CARRICK They’re extremely rare in the Ever After. And this one’s dangerous.

SIERRA That doesn’t make sense unicorns are supposed to be gentle creatures.

CARRICK Not this one. It crossed over to the Shadow Kingdom, and the more time it spent in the Forbidden Forest, it started to change. It’s like a sickness almost.

SIERRA Maybe we could help it?

CARRICK I was hoping to. But its elusive. The goblins want its horn for its remarkable magic and me out of the picture.

Carrick is stunned to see a misty VEIL ahead, a gateway. He smiles, relieved, and calls back to the others.

CARRICK Come on, it’s a gateway. It’ll get us out of here.

The band of heroes steps through the veil.

75 CONTINUED: (3)

Suddenly, everything changes. They find themselves in an entirely new place.

EXT. UMBRAL MARSHES - (SHADOW KINGDOM)

A vast expanse of marshlands unfolds, shrouded in perpetual mist. Twisted willows with gnarled branches resembling skeletal fingers, reach out into the gloom.

Ghostly will-o’-wisps flicker amidst the murky waters, casting an eerie glow on the treacherous path.

CARRICK The Umbral Marshes. The ground is soft and treacherous. There are concealed pools and quicksand all over this place.

SIERRA Then we’ll need some sort of boat.

Carrick notices Sierra writing in her manuscript.

CARRICK What are you doing?

SIERRA Imagining a water lily that doubles as a boat for us. Large enough to fit a giantess too.

GWEN Thank you, I wasn’t really looking forward to taking a dip in the water.

Sierra finishes writing and closes the manuscript book. The group studies the murky waters, awaiting a sign.

Slowly, a series of baseball plate-sized water lilies appear in a row, beckoning them ahead.

SIERRA Looks like that’s our cue.

Sierra stows the Enchanted Quill and manuscript book into her knapsack. She steps forward as Carrick, Elden, and Gwen with Thimbly follow suit.

They navigate the water lilies like stepping stones. Each one magically expands when Gwen’s large foot touches down on it.

(CONTINUED)

76 CONTINUED:

When Sierra steps onto the last lily, it gracefully unfolds its petals, revealing a comfortable seating area and carrying them across the mysterious waters.

SIERRA (smiling) It worked.

THIMBLY You knew it would.

CARRICK You are a dreamer after all.

Sierra smiles.

GWEN This looks nice and cozy.

Gwen does her best to tuck her body into the vessel. They all get inside.

EXT. UMBRAL MARSHES - SOON AFTER

The water lily boat drifts through the moonlit marshes like a dark ride in water. Sierra and her friends drift to sleep.

Thimbly begins singing a power ballad, observing smaller creatures scampering around the trees and peeking out of the tall reeds swaying in the brackish breeze. They’re nothing like the inhabitants of Mystical Woodlands or the Kingdom of Aetheria.

Although they resemble creatures of fantastical beings found in dark fantasy films, there’s a touch of whimsy and imagination about them that’s disarming.

THIMBLY (singing) Hiding in the shadows, creatures big and small, with playful grins and friendly paws, maybe it’s not so scary after all...

INTERCUT WITH: Toby curls up under the covers in the guest room bed. Nana turns the lights off, softly shuts the door.

TIME CUT:

As hours pass, the will-o’-wisps seem to have led them off course.

EXT. MARSHY ISLAND - NIGHT

Oferla stands before a decrepit wooden shack on a marshy island. The water lily pad boat eerily glides into view through the twisted trees.

OFERLA Ah, what shadowy spectacle reveals itself before me?

She squints, eyeing the approaching watercraft. The Wild Boy joins her, tightly holding a cage containing a frightened Wisp.

WILD BOY Looks like a magical boat made from a water lily.

OFERLA (pointing her finger) Observations are not what you’re here for, Naughty.

WILD BOY Then, why do you keep -- (he stops himself) Yes, ma’am.

Oferla’s eyes gleam with delight as she spots Gwen’s giant head emerging from the boat.

OFERLA A twist of fate. The Shadow Kingdom has led both the giantess and the quester to me. Along with some others who may prove useful. Now it’s time to play.

The Wild Boy watches Oferla step into the water and sink below the surface.

WISP Listen, young man. I need your help. I can lead us out of here. I’m from the Kingdom of Aetheria. You could live there in the village. It’s a whole lot nicer than this place.

Wild Boy stares down at Wisp, bewildered.

WILD BOY You can talk?

WISP Don’t tell her.

Wild Boy nods in agreement.

EXT. MARSHES UNDERWATER - NIGHT

A semi-transparent bog bubble envelops Oferla in the dimly lit, murky waters. With an air of malevolence, she offers up In Your Shadow - the ultimate diss track aimed at Ravenna.

OFERLA (singing) Here I am in your shadow, waiting for my turn on that stage. Ravenna gets all the glory, a most perfect mage. The villainous of their dreams. But this is my moment to beam.

EXT. OBSIDIAN GROVE - DAY

Hidden amidst the twisted branches, Oferla observes Ravenna and Princess Laurel in the Obsidian Grove.

OFERLA (singing) Soaring high on your fame, here I linger desperate for someone to know my name. You’re the star of the potion, the queen of the spell. In your shadow, I’m casting my own brew. Dreaming of a rivalry, but you don’t have a clue.

EXT. MARSHES UNDERWATER - NIGHT

Oferla stares up at the bow of the water lily boat, encased within her watery bubble.

OFERLA (singing) I’m a witch in waiting. Stirring in the whispers, crafting my renown. But you’re dancing in moonlight, while I’m stuck on the ground. I’m a rival in hiding, a spellbinder’s dream. (MORE)

EXT. UMBRAL MARSHES - CONTINUOUS

Sierra and her friends wake up in a panic.

SIERRA What’s going on?

CARRICK I don’t know.

A MASSIVE SHADEWYRM rises from the depths, its form composed of shadows and mists. The creature has multiple pairs of luminous eyes that gleam like the stars.

THIMBLY Can’t this thing go any faster!

Everyone frantically dips their hands and arms in the water, trying to paddle the boat towards shore.

OFERLA (SHADEWYRM) It’s no use; you’re in my domain now.

GWEN Oferla...

The Shadewyrm undulates with an eerie, captivating grace. Its scales reflect a spectrum of dark, magical colors. Suddenly, the waves rise, and the water lily boat is capsized with a splash!

Everyone falls into the water. Gwen rises up, warrior- like, defending her friends.

GWEN Get to shore now! I’ll handle her.

OFERLA (SHADEWYRM) Say goodnight...

As the Shadewyrm lunges towards her, Gwen grabs hold of its neck.

GWEN You’re not getting my head!

Elden transforms into a falcon, scoops Thimbly up on his back, and flies to shore, while Sierra and Carrick start swimming furiously.

The Shadewyrm wraps itself around Gwen like a python. It flips her large body upside down and into the water, spinning like a washing machine.

SIERRA (in the water) We have to help her!

CARRICK Just get to shore.

Right as he’s about to swim back towards Gwen, Carrick and Sierra stare in amazement as Wild Boy rushes out from the shack on the island marsh. He’s riding a whimsical tricycle contraption with colorful wings and potion vials attached.

CARRICK It’s him... the giant stalker.

WILD BOY Here I go!

He flies towards the Shadewyrm as it emerges from the water with its body wrapped around Gwen. Pedaling in the air, his contraption shoots bursts of magical potions, creating a trail of sparkling colors.

The effect transforms Oferla as the Shadewyrm into a harmless worm, shrunken down to size. It screeches indecipherable curses.

Gwen looks up at the Wild Boy, grateful but surprised.

WILD BOY (sweetly) I’m not a giant stalker anymore.

EXT. MARSHY ISLAND - CONTINUOUS

Gwen shakes water out of her hair, the droplets raining down on the decrepit wooden shack. Sierra sits on the ground, tear-eyed.

Carrick joins her, offering a comforting presence. The contents of his quester bag are safe since the material is water-poof, but Sierra isn’t so lucky.

CARRICK I’m sorry.

Thimbly comes up beside her, perched on Elden’s falcon back.

THIMBLY But Sierra, don’t you see? You’re living your own story.

Sierra contemplates and manages a smile.

SIERRA I just hope there can be a happy ending, where we save the Turnip Princess at least.

Carrick checks his whispering map, which offers insight into their coordinates through whispers.

CARRICK If we keep moving, we can reach the Kingdom of Aetheria by late morning.

The Wild Boy wheels out on his flying tricycle with Wisp in tow.

WILD BOY We’re going to Aetheria too. This weasel said I could live in the village. I can show you a shortcut.

WISP I’m the king’s steward.

ELDEN We need to speak to him.

SIERRA Elder Briarwood sent us.

82 CONTINUED: (2)

WISP It might be too late. The Turnip Princess has fallen under the power of Ravenna, the Lady of the Woods.

CARRICK Then we better hurry.

The Wild Boy leads them to a hidden bridge crafted by woven vines behind the wooden shack, guiding them into the Forbidden Forest.

Carrick opens up his jar of fireflies, which illuminates their darkened path.

EXT. AETHERIA CASTLE - NIGHT

The towering spires of Aetheria Castle pierce the darkened sky, a once majestic silhouette now ensnared by monstrous thorny vines that coil around its magnificent structure.

The King’s Guard, clad in armor, form a defensive line along the castle walls. Swords unsheathed, shields raised, against the relentless onslaught of roots and vines that writhe towards them.

INT. AETHERIA CASTLE - THRONE ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Inside the castle, King Alder watches the turmoil unfold through the towering windows, his expression etched with concern.

KING ALDER Whatever it takes, we must find a way to break free from Ravenna’s grasp. Our people depend on us. We cannot let Aetheria fall.

He turns to Marigold, the spymaster owl at her perch, weighing his words. As the castle trembles, the fate of Aetheria hangs in the balance.

EXT. EDGE OF THE FORBIDDEN FOREST - PREDAWN

Princess Laurel retreats into the overgrown woods, her emotions conflicted. As the first light of dawn filters through the trees, she finds Ravenna waiting for her.

83 CONTINUED:

RAVENNA (softly) What troubles you, Princess Laurel?

With downcast eyes --

PRINCESS LAUREL I planted the seeds like you said. But everything spiraled so out of control.

Ravenna, understanding, takes her hand.

RAVENNA The kingdom must be cleansed. It’s the only way what was lost can be reborn again. Do not let your hesitation quench the fire within you; you are stronger than you know.

Princess Laurel, bolstered by Ravenna’s words, steels herself, ready to finish what they started.

EXT. FORBIDDEN FOREST - PREDAWN

Sierra and her friends, alongside Wisp and the Wild Boy, set off into the forest.

SIERRA What were you doing living in the marsh?

WILD BOY (a sheepish smile) I was hungry. I’m a growing boy after all.

SIERRA Where are your parents?

Wild Boy shrugs.

WILD BOY Dunno. Oferla said my parents threw me out of their carriage when I was a baby and into the Forbidden Woods because I’m ugly.

SIERRA (shocked) You’re not ugly. (MORE)

(CONTINUED)

84 CONTINUED:

SIERRA (CONT’D) Why would anyone tell a little boy he’s ugly? That’s cruel.

Carrick gives Sierra a knowing look.

CARRICK She’s a witch. What did you expect?

SIERRA Not all witches are bad.

GWEN Oferla was. Or is, depending on if she survived.

WILD BOY She had me clean her house for her, cook food, and hunt giants.

Gwen stares down from above, disapprovingly.

WILD BOY Oferla said she was getting older and couldn’t do everything since she casts spells all day, trying to compete with her rival Ravenna.

SIERRA This Ravenna, keeps coming up. She sounds something else.

Wisp trembles at the mention of Ravenna.

WILD BOY Oferla has never even met her. Ravenna has no idea who she even is.

CARRICK That’s not much of a rivalry then.

WILD BOY Well, it keeps her motivated that’s for sure. Always wants to outdo Ravenna.

SIERRA Couldn’t you have just dumped a bucket of water on her and escaped?

(CONTINUED)

85 CONTINUED: (2)

THIMBLY Bucket of water? Sierra, what story do you think this is?

SIERRA I read it somewhere. Wild Boy, do you have a name?

He considers the question.

WILD BOY I don’t remember. Oferla calls me Naughty. So, I guess that’s my name.

GWEN It is quite fitting.

Sierra shakes her head.

SIERRA No, we’re not calling him Naughty.

Carrick’s eyes widen, he puts his fist up as a quiet signal. Something through the clearing catches his eye.

CARRICK (quietly) Stay back.

He subtly motions ahead, and the clearing reveals a resplendent UNICORN. Its coat shimmers with an otherwordly glow, an unsettling energy surrounding the sublime creature.

The Wild Boy can’t contain his excitement.

WILD BOY A unicorn!

The Unicorn stirs, raising its head and narrowing its haunting eyes in their direction. A malevolent glint, pupils unnaturally dilated.

CARRICK We do not want to upset it.

The Unicorn snorts, bares its teeth.

SIERRA I think we already have...

Elden perches on Sierra’s shoulder.

86 CONTINUED: (3)

ELDEN Everyone just stay calm; remember, we’ve got a giantess with us.

GWEN That poison-tipped horn still looks like it could do some damage.

The Unicorn starts to move in a predatory fashion, its hoofbeats are hypnotic.

The forest around them seems to hush, the air thick with an eerie silence, broken only by the rhythmic sound of the Unicorn’s graceful yet ominous movements.

The glow from its coat casts an serene light, dancing among the trees like a spectral presence. As the Unicorn advances, the ground beneath it seems to pulse with a mysterious energy.

EXT. CLEARING IN THE FORBIDDEN FOREST - CONTINUOUS

Carrick steps forward, Sierra by her side.

SIERRA What are you doing?

CARRICK I don’t know. But I want to help it.

They move out, but it’s just enough to set the Unicorn off. It starts galloping in circles around them. Carrick and Sierra go back to back.

Suddenly, it’s as if they can feel the Unicorn’s pain. Memories flood their mind - of being hunted by humans, shadow wolves, and goblins alike.

SIERRA (distraught) It’s scared.

Sierra can’t take it anymore. She looks deeply into the Unicorn’s haunted eyes.

SIERRA This is not who you are.

Flash: Sierra and the Unicorn are suddenly alone together, as if they’ve reached a different astral plane. They’re now face to face.

Soon, Sierra finds herself riding the Unicorn through an enchanting dreamscape. Stars sparkle in the night sky.

They gallop through the unusual setting, and Sierra is enthralled with her connection to the majestic creature.

SIERRA I’m going to call you Starwhisper.

The Unicorn responds to its new name with a soft nuzzle against Sierra’s hand, a silent acknowledgement of the bond forged in the mystical space between them.

EXT. CLEARING IN THE FORBIDDEN FOREST - AS BEFORE

Carrick looks at Sierra on the back of the Unicorn in awe as she gracefully returns to her friends.

Thimbly, Elden, Gwen, Wild Boy, and Wisp -- step out in wonderment, their eyes wide with amazement at the awe- inspiring sight.

The Unicorn, now named Starwhisper, stands regally with Sierra, its presence commanding attention.

CARRICK (whispers) In all my years, I never thought I’d witness such magic...

EXT. FORBIDDEN FOREST - LATER

Sierra rides Starwhisper with Wild Boy behind her. Carrick keeps up beside them, alongside Wisp, Thimbly sits on Gwen’s wide-brimmed hat, and Elden soars overhead.

The Kingdom of Aetheria is finally within reach. Excitement fills the air as they approach. However, their faces soon fall as the once majestic castle comes into view, now covered in monstrous roots, thorns, and vines.

Roots spill out across the town at the foot of the castle, enveloping thatch-roofed cottages and bursting through windows.

Frightened nobles and horrified villagers flee. Princess Laurel stalks through the melee, eyes alight. A desperate Villager catches the unusual glimmer in her gaze.

VILLAGER The Turnip Princess! She’s done this to us!

She cocks her head, then flips around in the villager’s direction. The Princess throws her hands forward, summoning another blast of twisted roots unearthed from the ground.

Like serpents, they wrap around the horrified villagers, encasing them in cocoon-like roots, which suspend them in a state between life and death.

King Alder rides out on his shining winged PEGASUS, bearing witness to the chaos.

KING ALDER Princess Laurel, stop this at once!

PRINCESS LAUREL No, it has to be done father. I’m returning Aetheria back to its natural state.

Marigold swoops down from the sky, flying by King Alder.

MARIGOLD The Everlasting Pearl, it’s the only way.

Then, King Alder notices the striking sight of a giantess emerging from the Forbidden Forest. Wisp comes running from out of the woods.

WISP Your Majesty, I am so sorry. I followed Princess Laurel to the Obsidian Grove, I was rushing back to tell you but was hunted by shadow wolves and lost my way in the Forbidden Forest.

KING ALDER I’m just glad you’re okay, Wisp. Princess Laurel is experiencing a form of debasement. It’s as if she’s forgotten who she is. And I’m afraid the Kingdom has now fallen.

Carrick follows out behind, with Sierra riding Starwhisper, along with Wild Boy, Thimbly, Gwen and Elden, now back in human form.

CARRICK We’re here to help. (isn’t it obvious) Carrick Emberwind, your favorite Quester known near and far.

In a flash, Carrick unsheathes his sword and gets to work slicing through wilds of thorny vines and slithering roots.

King Alder is caught off guard by the sight of Sierra on a unicorn and her garments (not of this world).

KING ALDER You. How did you get here?

He looks at Sierra curiously.

ELDEN She’s a dreamer.

Stunned, King Alder tries to process the admission.

KING ALDER It’s been years since a Dreamer has come here...

Elden is startled by the madness before him, watching the villagers come under attack.

ELDEN I need to help these people.

Gwen rushes ahead, preventing a piece of castle wall from falling on a family of villagers.

MOTHER (staring up) Thank you!

The Mother watches as Wild Boy, riding his winged tricycle, flies through the sky with Thimbly helping him to shoot out potion dust to neutralize the frenzied roots and vines.

Back to King Alder, still recovering from the fact that there’s a Dreamer in his presence.

SIERRA (explains) Elder Briarwood sent us here. He told us you’d tell us where the Everlasting Pearl is on Glass Mountain.

The King realizes he has no other choice.

KING ALDER A dragon guards the Everlasting Pearl at the mountain made of glass. It’s almost inaccessible, in a remote place. And you’re willing to go?

SIERRA (apprehensive) Yes.

KING ALDER You see, when I was a young king, I made mistakes...

SIERRA Whatever happened, we can fix this together.

KING ALDER Ravenna’s evil intentions now threatens to undo everything that was built here in Aetheria. Steal three glass feathers from the dragon’s tail, it will allow the roots of the ancient Luminous Tree on Glass Mountain to reveal the Everlasting Pearl. It may be the only thing that can stop what Ravenna has unleashed.

SIERRA Then, I’ll do it.

A chasm opens up by the edge of the woods. Ravenna rises up from it. She stalks towards King Alder and Sierra.

RAVENNA Hello, Alder.

Ravenna sets her eyes on Sierra.

RAVENNA I hear there’s a Dreamer out and about in the Ever After. Seems like everything’s come full circle for us now.

KING ALDER (shouts to Sierra) Go!

Sierra rides out on Starwhisper through the chaos, the ground cracking behind her, galloping faster to avoid the outstretching roots.

Red-eyed THORNSTRIDERS emerge from the shadows, their forms a grotesque fusion of nature’s wrath. Monstrous humanoid shapes crafted from entwined vines, gnarled roots, and razor-sharp thorns.

OFERLA Ravenna! You think you’re running the show here, do you?!

Ravenna looks over at Oferla, her hair a swirl of colors.

RAVENNA (coolly) Who are you?

Oferla seethes, her anonymity driving her mad.

OFERLA I was the original Lady of the Woods, until you came along! You think you’re the only one that can cause a scene around here?! Well, I’ll show you...

Oferla’s eyes light up. As Carrick rushes back to the King, while fighting off a mass of Thornstriders.

CARRICK Where is she going?

He sees Sierra riding off in the distance on Starwhisper.

KING ALDER To Glass Mountain.

CARRICK She can’t go alone.

King Alder regards his pegasus.

KING ALDER Take my stead.

Carrick’s eyes light up with excitement at the prospect of riding a pegasus. The trees all around tremble, and thickets of thorny shrubs emerge from the ground like swirling tentacles.

It strides forward through the village, causing panic among the surviving villagers not ensnared in cocoons. The Arbormaw crushes houses and buildings as it turns corners.

Gwen, Wild Boy, Elden, and Thimbly work frantically to guide everyone to safety. Gwen locks eyes with the Arbormaw.

GWEN I’ll handle him.

She charges towards the Arbormaw, confronting it in a clash reminiscent of colossal titans.

EXT. FORBIDDEN FOREST - DAY

Sierra rides Starwhisper through the dense trees. The red- eyed shadow wolves, alert to her presence, fan out with bared teeth.

Sierra urges Starwhisper to gallop faster, her heart pounding. The shadow wolves give chase, their growls echoing through the forest.

Starwhisper leaps over a deep ravine, the shadow wolves unable to follow, fall into the abyss below. Sierra breathes a deep sigh of relief, the immediate danger left behind.

PRINCESS LAUREL (exhausted) I don’t want to do this anymore.

King Alder and Ravenna watch in horror as a mass of nature materials crash towards Princess Laurel.

KING ALDER No!

She’s swept up in the hurricane-like storm, buried in debris. Oferla cackles aloud.

OFERLA Pity. The Turnip Princess was such a promising young woman.

A sudden shift occurs within Ravenna. King Alder and Ravenna, both with energy glowing in their palms, turn towards Oferla - a common enemy.

The air crackles with magic as they confront Oferla. It’s a showdown of titanic forces, the clash of powers echoing through the ravaged kingdom.

With a powerful surge, they unleash torrents of magic, a visual spectacle that lights up the sky. Oferla, realizing the magnitude of the forces against her, fights back with equal intensity.

Thimbly pops her head out of Carrick’s pocket.

THIMBLY And we weren’t about to let our favorite Dreamer face off against a glass dragon all by herself.

Sierra smiles grateful.

SIERRA Thank you.

Elden soars into view, in falcon form.

ELDEN Don’t forget me!

EXT. ENCHANTED GLADE - SOON AFTER

Sierra sits by the stream with Carrick, Thimbly, and Elden (now back in human form).

THIMBLY (at a loss) What happened to Aetheria was unimaginable.

CARRICK This path here should lead us to the base of the mountain. We’ll have to do everything in our power to avoid waking Glaedrith, the glass dragon.

SIERRA Is it just me or is it as if the king is harboring some sort of dark secret?

CARRICK No, it’s not just you. His battle with Ravenna seems personal.

EXT. KINGDOM OF AETHERIA - CONTINUOUS

Gwen is finally able to subdue the Arbormaw, pulling apart its root-fashioned body as bursts of shadows consume what’s left.

Meanwhile, Ravenna, her eyes ablaze with power, holds Oferla aloft.

RAVENNA (white with rage) Begone!

CARRICK (steels himself) Correct.

As they ascend the treacherous trail, battling howling winds and navigating perilous crevices, Sierra discovers the crystalline core.

SIERRA It’s not glass but a crystalline substance.

She watches it radiate a soft glow. Thimbly is nearly blown off Elden’s shoulder. Carrick reaches into his quester pouch, removes a small bottle and opens it.

CARRICK Aurora Breeze can help calm the winds.

He releases the essence of an aurora breeze which helps the hectic winds die down.

They continue towards the peak. Carrick recognizes the Luminara Tree mentioned in his whispering map.

EXT. GLASS MOUNTAIN - DRAGON’S NEST - NIGHT

Suddenly, the mountain trembles. Transcendent music resonates, and the air shimmers with anticipation.

The sky erupts with prismatic lights, and GLAEDRITH, the Glass Dragon, emerges from a cascade of refracted colors. Its form is a living kaleidoscope, an embodiment of the Ever After’s magic. Spectral wings unfurl, refracting light in mesmerizing patterns.

Glaedrith roars, unleashing a symphony of crystalline echoes that reverberate through Glass Mountain. The very air seems to dance with magic.

GLAEDRITH (voice echoing) You seek the Everlasting Pearl?

SIERRA We need it to restore balance to Aetheria.

ELDEN She’s a Dreamer. Sierra was brought here to aid us in these troubling times.

GLAEDRITH (angry) A Dreamer disrupted this realm before. They betrayed my trust.

SIERRA I’m not like them. I always stick by my word. Back home I hardly have anyone in my life, let alone someone to betray. But if I did, I certainly wouldn’t.

GLAEDRITH You’re some sort of rogue then?

Sierra shakes her head.

SIERRA Not in the Ever After. I’ve felt more at home here with my friends, than I ever have anywhere else where I’m from.

Thimbly crawls out of Sierra’s front coat pocket, standing on her shoulder.

THIMBLY I can vouch for her. She’s been a great leader to us. Sierra faced down the Goblin Lord, showed compassion to a wild boy when no one else would, and brought a dangerous unicorn back from the brink of darkness. She’s courageous and kind.

CARRICK I vouch for her too.

ELDEN So do I.

Glaedrith considers their words, skeptical.

GLAEDRITH These are noble feats, I admit. But still, I have my doubts.

SIERRA All my life I’ve read books about heroes saving the day. And this is my chance to help people, the people of Aetheria. I -- I just want to help.

Then, Glaedrith sneers, changing his mind.

GLAEDRITH No, I don’t believe you! The other Dreamers fooled me with their false altruism. The Everlasting Pearl’s power will corrupt you, like it did the others.

GLAEDRITH You do not understand its power. It’s not just a source of magic but an anchor of balance.

GLAEDRITH It belongs to me!

The glass dragon unleashes a dazzling display of magic, creating illusions and attacking with shards of glass.

SIERRA Look out!

Sierra and her friends take cover, dodging a hailstorm of sharp glass projectiles.

The ground loosens beneath their feet, sending them sliding backwards. Sierra loses her footing, tumbling towards the edge.

Thimbly flies off her shoulder into the air, but Elden quickly transforms and catches her on his falcon back just in time.

THIMBLY (a sigh of relief) My hero.

But Sierra isn’t so lucky. She slides off the edge. Her one hand grabs hold of a jagged point, the other hand dangling and her legs kicking, doing her best not to drop hundreds of feet below.

Carrick reaches out, grabs her arm and pulls her back up onto the ledge.

SIERRA Thank you.

CARRICK You’re not just a Dreamer now. You’re a Quester too. And Questers have each other’s backs.

Sierra manages a smile.

Carrick watches the shards of sharp glass blasting towards them.

CARRICK (realizing) Wait! He’s creating illusions, reflections in the glass.

SIERRA It’s a show of power. But he’s powerless to what the Everlasting Pearl is capable of. He’s scared just like Starwhisper was. I don’t need his three glass feathers. (roused into action) I’m a Dreamer.

Sierra raises her hand towards the Luminous Tree, releasing a powerful surge of bluish energy rays.

GLAEDRITH (bellows) You wretched girl, stop that at once!

SIERRA (declaring) The Everlasting Pearl belongs to all the realms.

The bluish glow lights up the Luminous Tree, swirling down its trunk into the ground below.

GLAEDRITH The Pearl was created by ancient guardians who sought to bring order to the chaotic magic of the Ever After. They recognized the dangers of unbridled magic.

SIERRA We don’t want to take it away from you, Glaedrith. We just want to share it.

CARRICK We have to restore Aetheria. This is the only way.

Glaedrith snaps, infuriated.

GLAEDRITH Maybe Aetheria deserves to fall and be wiped off the map.

SIERRA No, it doesn’t. The Turnip Princess, those people, our friends. They don’t deserve this. I’m sorry if a Dreamer before me, betrayed your trust. But I’m different.

Glaedrith hesitates, the rage in his eyes softening.

GLAEDRITH (torn) This pearl was once a stabilizing force for us...

SIERRA Then let it be again.

Sierra’s energy successfully frees the Everlasting Pearl from underneath the Luminous Tree. It emits a brilliant, calming light that dispels the illusions surrounding the Glass Mountain.

The Everlasting Pearl stands brilliantly suspended in the air within a delicate web of translucent threads, creating a mesmerizing display of colors as it refracts through the glass-like surroundings.

A spectacular burst of magical energy flows through the air, slowly working its way across the sky. Sierra and her friends gaze up in wonderment as Glaedrith slinks back into his lair.

EXT. KINGDOM OF AETHERIA - DAY

The castle is in ruins. Wisp and Marigold crawl out from the rubble.

MOTHER (tearful) It’s him...

The Mother makes her way towards Wild Boy.

MOTHER Lucas!

He stares up at her, startled.

MOTHER We’re your family.

WILD BOY (matter-of-fact) Who threw me out of the carriage and into the Forbidden Forest because I’m ugly?

She shakes her head, rushes forward and wraps him up in her arms, holding him tightly.

MOTHER (crying) We were attacked by shadow wolves. We searched for so long. I’m so sorry, we couldn’t find you.

WILD BOY It’s okay, mother. I’m with you now.

She smiles as his father and siblings gather around.

Meanwhile, King Alder and Ravenna desperately search the wreckage for any sign of Princess Laurel. So much unsaid between them.

But then something incredible happens. The tentacled roots and thorny vines begin receding from the castle walls, seeping back towards the Forbidden Forest.

KING ALDER (looks to Ravenna) Are you doing this?

RAVENNA (at a loss) No.

Miraculously, the natural materials that buried Princess Laurel sink back into the ground. Her body is revealed. King Alder and Ravenna gasp.

KING ALDER (teary-eyed) Help her, please.

RAVENNA (stoic) I’ll try my best.

Ravenna takes Princess Laurel’s cold hand. Then, feels a warm yellow-orangish glow. The Princess’s eyes flutter open to their relief. King Alder touches his heart.

KING ALDER Thank you, Ravenna.

RAVENNA (mystified) This wasn’t my magic.

The King and Enchantress gaze up at the sky as the Everlasting Pearl’s magic works its way through the air.

SIERRA (O.S.) It’s the Pearl.

They turn to see Sierra emerging from the forest, riding Starwhisper. Carrick descends from the sky on the Pegasus, with Elden fluttering down in falcon form carrying Thimbly on his back.

PRINCESS LAUREL What did I do?

Princess Laurel sits up, taking in the ruin around her.

KING ALDER It’s not your fault.

She throws her arms around her father. Thimbly gives a coy look to Elden.

THIMBLY (under her breath) The doting Dad pulls a classic blame-the-dragon move, huh?

ELDEN Well, I’m not cleaning up this mess.

GWEN It doesn’t look like you’ll have to.

As if a curse has been lifted, in a whirl of glittery dust, the castle and all that surrounds it is gradually assembled back together by an unseen magic.

The power is destroyed. The kingdom is restored. They are freed from this dangerous enchantment.

SIERRA King Alder, are you the Dreamer that Glaedrith spoke of?

Princess Laurel is taken aback by the revelation.

PRINCESS LAUREL What does she mean, father?

All eyes fall on the King, but it’s clear Ravenna knows better.

RAVENNA Tell them, tell them all.

KING ALDER It’s true. Both Ravenna and I have a history from another time and another place.

EXT. NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY - ROSE MAIN READING ROOM

TWO BROTHERS - ALDER and ELIAS SWARTHMOOR sit huddled over a table surrounded by adventure books from Journey to the Center of the Earth to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Flatlands: A Romance of Many Dimensions.

KING ALDER (V.O.) Ever since we were young my brother and I loved stories. When we were old enough we began writing our own. Some were mine, some were his, and some were ours together.

Alder, the eldest brother, leans in conspiratorially.

(CONTINUED)

108 CONTINUED:

ALDER So, how does it feel to know that someone from Harper & Books might be reading our first collection of short stories at this very moment on Pearl Street?

Elias, the younger of the two, is a bit less optimistic.

ELIAS I’m hopeful, I am. But we keep getting rejection letters, it’s almost like we’re cursed.

ALDER Don’t say that. We need positive thoughts and ideas for new stories.

ELIAS The next one should be different. It has to be more than just fairies and dragons. People want new sights to behold on the page.

ALDER (encouraging) Write it down then. Everything that’s in your head, just keep writing them down. Stories from the Swarthmoor Brothers, should transport people to new worlds.

Elias begins writing in his manuscript book.

INT. BROWNSTONE - OVERLOOKING CENTRAL PARK

Shelves line the walls crammed with volumes of cherished books, worn spines bearing the weight of countless tales.

KING ALDER (V.O.) I was never quite sure if the stories were mine alone though. Or if they were from some place else all together. Maybe born in some ether, waiting to be told. And I was to be the conduit to bring them to life in my world. Either way, I was desperate to tell them.

Alder stands at the window, opening a letter from Harper & Brothers. Elias comes into the room looking hopeful.

109 CONTINUED:

ELIAS Good news?

Alder shakes his head, dejected.

ALDER (reads the letter) Unfortunately, this collection of short stories isn’t quite the right fit for Harper & Brothers. We are going to respectfully pass.

ELIAS Which city?

A WOMAN’S VOICE (O.S.) Ravenna.

Ravenna enters through the open door. Alden is red-faced. The Brothers are surprised to see this enchanting woman in their midst.

RAVENNA You left your journal at the Papeterie. I was a few blocks behind you trying to catch up.

He takes the journal back from her.

ALDER Thank you for bringing it to me.

INSERT: In the Papeterie, it appears Alder never had the opportunity to introduce himself. A friendly French man in the shop bombards Ravenna with questions. Feeling disheartened, Alder turns to leave, accidentally leaving his journal on a display table. However, Ravenna notices his oversight.

RAVENNA I read it. I like your fantasy stories. And your world-building too. I want you to come to the Cabaret Du Chat Noir with me tonight. Both of you can.

ALDER We crossed the threshold into this world for a reason. There’s so much chaos still. We need to establish a realm where magic is governed by rules and structure.

ELIAS But the Everlasting Pearl seems to offer this world protection.

ALDER Not anymore. With the Pearl under my control, I could bring unparalleled order to the realm.

Elias doesn’t like what he’s hearing. Ravenna tries to sooth things over.

RAVENNA Enchantment should be for everyone. We can all enjoy the beauty of this place.

ELIAS This isn’t your Empire of Imagination, Alder. These dreamers they said came before us, they didn’t stay.

ALDER We will. Our story is unlike any other. Our world is teetering on the brink. Time is different here. The years are longer, our aging has slowed as well. Why would we leave?

Elias shakes his head.

Princess Laurel confers with Ravenna at a table, then approaches Sierra.

PRINCESS LAUREL I owe you my life. And I want you to have this.

Then, Princess Laurel reveals a ring in her hand.

SIERRA (wry smile) Princess Laurel, we just met.

PRINCESS LAUREL It’s a wishing ring. Turn it three times to the right, you will be able to wish yourself back here anytime you want. If you turn it three times to the left, you can return home.

THIMBLY Oh, a magical ring for teleportation, huh? Now, that’s what I call a “wish-come-true” accessory!

PRINCESS LAUREL Will you come back to us?

She gives Sierra the ring.

PRINCESS LAUREL I think they’re wonderful.

Elden smiles, pleased with her answer.

EXT. KINGDOM OF AETHERIA - LATER

Sierra hugs her friends goodbye.

SIERRA I’ll never forget any of you.

Thimbly stares up at her with a smile.

THIMBLY But this doesn’t have to be goodbye forever. You got that wishing ring now. You can come back whenever you want.

Sierra smiles.

He gazes out upon dozens of sky islands in the distance that reveal themselves from the cloud realm ahead.

SIERRA Yeah, I’d be up for it.

INT. STORYBOOK STORE - SECRET ROOM - AS BEFORE

Nana slowly closes the leather-bound manuscript in her lap beside Toby.

NANA That’s the end.

TOBY But it can’t be the end. Sierra has to return to the Ever After. And Carrick! I mean, he’s a quester. Part of a whole family of questers. And he said there’s more sky islands to visit. That’s another book in itself. Right?

Nana gets up and slips out of the room. Toby gazes up at the top shelf, realizing there are other leather-bound manuscripts, including one that appears to be labeled -- The Lost Fairy Tale: Part 2.

TOBY There’s something you should know.

He holds up The Lost Fairy Tale manuscript in his hands. Caroline peers down at it curiously.

CAROLINE (concerned) Toby, what’s going on here?

A slight tremble in the air makes Caroline nervous, as if it’s reminding her of some past trauma from childhood.
